Our hatred has been at Palace since the 60's, not just because of our ground share with them in the 80's that started this whole thing off. What makes me laugh about Palace fans is they seem to get the assumption we are looking for a rival and Palace is the one we want. It does not bother me whether they care about us or not but it's funny when a particalar Palace fan makes a comment like:

Charlton are a club frustrated with themselves as they don't have any proper rivals. To be honest I couldn't give a flying duck what the clowns do as it does not concern me. However if they do come up I hope Palace do the double over them because I'm fed up of their boring fans trying to seek our attention when our club doesn't give a toss. I'm very tempted (if Charlton come up) to go dressed as a clown to their library to take the p**s out of them. And when they sing their only song (I think its something about the valley) we can all laugh and cringe at the same time they do their golf clap at the end of their song

Strange this one don't care about us but gladly wish to do the double over us next season and wants to dress up as a clown at the Valley.......................

My 7 yr old neice earns extra pocket money every home game by escorting their hard-core support from the train station to the ground & back........................................................

Nolly is 100% right. Home and away, the biggest fixture next season is Millwall.
    They are our true rivals.

Geographically Upton Park is the nearest ground to the Valley. You can see both grounds from Pontoon Dock DLR Station.

Why are we getting drawn into yet another pointless discusssion over whether Palace are our rivals or not, which has been posted less than 48 hours after our promotion by someone who has never posted before?

I've highlighted the important bits for you in case, unlike Nolly, you've missed them.

You can see both grounds from the closing credits of Eastenders but it does not make West Ham our closest rivals

That scarf burning is utterly pathetic. I consider myself to know a fair bit about the Ultra scene on the continent, and those guys have clearly just seen too much Danny Dyer. Next they'll be coming out with ACAB chants.

I can't wait till we smack them next year.

Palace were our rivals even when I was a teenager back in the mid 70's, way before ground sharing.

That quote sums Palace fans up. Flying duck?

& Disco, whether they care about you greatly or not, he is hardly going to wish they lost or draw both games to you. Don't quite get any Palace or Millwall fan who says they don't care a thing for Charlton, whilst it's certainly not the most heated rivalry from our side & many of us aren't bothered either way if you won promotion or not, it's still a local derby with bragging rights attached to it and knowing how much it matters to you, getting a draw away & another win at home will matter!

    Correct.
Rivalries in those days were more about what happened off the pitch. We couldn't take on Millwall away or at home but we could and did take palace.
That's probably why palace would prefer Brighton as rivals nowadays.

Too true Baldy, one of my formative teenage football memories is coming out of Craphurst to a hail of bricks, fronting up, whilst avoiding a major headwound and then being pushed out of the way by a overweight local plod (no riot gear in them days...) saying "fuck off son, this is our job" as he sauntered off in the direction of the young reprobates practising their right arm leg breaks on us. Internet warriors, my arris!

I've said this before about Palace, their fans tend to be middle class kids from Surrey who think they have a superiority over ourselves and Millwall, cause they see us as working class oiks.

Palace are by far the weirdest club known to man. That is all.
  • Options
Millwall are our historical rivals and for me that will never change; whereas The Nigels are just an irritating little club from down the road.

I know at least one Palace fan who is a thoroughly decent man, who I would trsut in almost any situation. Used to enjoy a drink with him in the General Napier, laughing at the only Millwall fan in the pub.

Sorry to break wind at the dinner party.

    Palace > Millwall

Millwall don't have any hatred towards us, In fact they don't really care about us they're only interested In West Ham.

I don't like either of them but I've always hated Palace.

    Explain it to me then?

I've always lived in Charlton/Millwall areas and I've never had any trouble at all. We certainly don't pose as any threat them in their eyes.

i know plenty of millwall who hate us but whether they do or not wont stop my hatred for them.

i hate palace with a passion. anyone at the game at their place when they were going through all the administration stuff and the whole away support starting going batsh*t at half time booing and singing whilst they tried to tell the stadium how much money they'd raised......then all the stewards on the pitch trying to tell everyone to be quiet.......funny

Why would they hate us? Jealously?

We are about 7 miles away from each other and once you've taken out all that racist riff raff the spanners carry about with them we're pretty much the same people (if you're a SE Londoner).

I don't believe they hate us at all.

They lived in our shadow for nearly 14 years so thats just jealousy i reckon.

As for historical rivals I make you right, but we were always a league or two above them in the past. Not much rivalry at all really!

Cant honestly say I hate any of our so called rivals. Have friends who support them all and the rivalry just adds to the fun and banter and increases the tension for the derbies which has to be a good thing.
  • Options
No hate, but I can never forgive Palace for letting Dowie go.

We always used to take the Homesdale back in the day and get marched round the pitch to the away end. In 1975 when played them on a Friday night in February, their 'mob' came on the no75 bus.
