At the moment, the science of probability suggests there is very likely to be life on other planets. Science also suggests that it is extremely unlikely that we will be able to visit them or them visit us if we did find aliens. Just too big a distance between us.
Bill Bryson explains these points nicely in a speech to the Royal Society when he won their science book prize, you can download it free on I Tunes.
There are faires at the bottom of my garden. FACT. No one can prove me wrong. .........it's no way of going on though is it ?
Perhaps no-one can prove you wrong but more importantly you cannot prove you are right save for your belief that you are. This precludes your statement from being fact.
Unless,of course,by fairies you are referring to the70's reference to...etc etc.

Much like religion. If you had as much faith as I do you would clearly see it is a fact.
I find it slightly irritating that some have to take the piss out of those who believe in this. There are better minds than everyone on here put together who think there is something beyond the life we know. As I said before, I’m on the fence when it comes to this, but each to their own eh?
I do not believe in God, or Ghosts or any other Deities and I will continue to look down my nose and pour scorn on those who do. And because of your stance you have to accept my right to hold this opinion.
@DRF My stance is that I neither believe or disbelieve in ghosts. What has it got to do with religion or God?
Because they all come under the same banner. The banner being believing in things where no credible evidence exists to prove of their existance. If someone believes in the existance of `ghosts' then using their own rules i.e. `i'll believe any 'ol rubbish, no REAL evidence required' then they must surely believe in God and therefor religions.
@DRF My stance is that I neither believe or disbelieve in ghosts. What has it got to do with religion or God?
Perhaps it's because those who choose to believe or even keep an open mind in the existence of God or ghosts do so in the full knowledge that there is no evidence whatsoever. Yet those self same people would not necessarily believe in other nonsensical beliefs without that all important evidence. It's bizarre
I reserve the right to point and laugh at creationists and halfwits who believe that a supernatural pimp will reward them for committing mass murder. Unfortunately, the latter's delusional belief is anything but harmless; thus it is our duty not to tolerate such nonsense, as it clearly shows that tolerance can be very much over-rated...ghosts may or may not exist, but you have to draw the line somewhere!
All right then chaps tell me in a logical way what my wife and I saw in that room
Someone explain it too me because for 5 years I haven't had or been able to explain a man standing in the room who wernt there when I got up but within seconds of me leaving the bed was there and vanished into thin air infront of both our eyes

Can't explain that nla but I'm sure you can understand those of us that need hard evidence before we believe in something having doubts.
I have doubts myself trust me I don't want it to be a ghost I didn't believe in them I still don't know if I do , I just want someone to give me a logical reason for what I saw , if my missus had seen it alone I wouldn't have believed it and if I had seen it alone I wouldn't believe it but wtf else could it be
I have seen one say what you want they exist....we were in barbados in our appartment built on an old plantation complex, i went into the bathroom sat on the bog and as i was sitting there a very very easy to recognise black man.....
Never witnessed one but my Dad, who's never shakeable and doubts everything, swears whilst working in the early 1970's at St Mary's churchyard in Horns Cross, he saw appear from nowhere by a woman in Victorian dress. The gate was closed and he never heard it open, even though he was close to it and would've heard it. She didn't speak and she disappeared "sharpish". Never knew how to take this but my old man is the ultimate sceptic. Case wide open for me.
I woke up and saw a rabbit once at the end of my bed when I was a kid- I was a bit unwell and put it down a trick of the mind. It seemed very real at the time but how would there be a ghost rabbit? It's amazing when people see things how other factors, like drink, illness are not taken into account!
I woke up in the middle of the night and a black woman was standing there. She said she was Gloria Gaynor. At first I was afraid, then I was petrified.
wernt drunk, wernt ill, wernt over tired was 100% normal (as i can be) and neither was the wife, hadnt been in the sun all day as it was one of those crazy caribean days where it is hot but cloudy and very very wet at times
Joe was 5 no way we would have been on the ale
telling you unless some one can tell me wtf it was in the room the only explaination was a ghost and for the fella at reception to take us into a room away from other customers and say
you aint the first and you wont be the last to see the man in that building, then i know deep down that others have seen it and i ,must have too
i aint scared of it quite impressed tbh but it has bothered me noggin

It was explained that ghosts could be an image/sound imprinted in time when an energy and/or emotion has happened in that particular place, eg a lady reported seeing roman soldiers marching through her house on their knees, when she had an extension built and footings dug, remains of an old roman path was found beneath her house, and it's thought that the soldiers may have been marching into battle, thus imprinted the image on that place in time. People can pick holes in this theory, and no doubt will, but it sounds plausible to me....?
This!
Not everyone who has claimed to have witnessed "ghosts" are relgious or spiritual! They believe they have seen something and told theit story! Where are you getting believing in God from? From my quote above, there doesn't even need to be a death if this theory is correct!

I'm not talking about religion, just non-spiritual people believing they have seen something, are they all liars/over tired/attention seeking......?
It's not unusual for DRF to look down her / his nose at people, so I wouldn't worry.
Basically, most people think its a load of all rhubarb until you've had some for of experience. And if you have had some experience that you can't explain, you've no need to try and justify it to others.
It's a mad mad world, but given the technological advances in the last 20 years, I feel if these things did exist, there would be a deluge of catergorical evidence proving so.
But then again, I've never had that experience.....
It's a good experience but very very strange as you can't explain it to anyone without people acting in the way they are on here so I don't let it bother me tbh , at first I did I told people who have known me for years and they were like yeah right whatever mate , so I stopped telling folks
It's very creepy but you do feel privileged that if it is true note if then you have experienced something very few do
Telling the guy in reception was the wierdest thing ever

If the mystery machine gang can't find them what chance do we stand?
