I am sorry it is so vague, but to recap - it's in the style of Mungo Jerry/Manfredd Mann/Bonzos - late sixties male singer/group - it features a very, very prominent & loud bass - like single note that repeats throughout the song - the note kind of punctuates the end of each line or verse
I heard it a while back - (but cant pinpoint an exact date other than they played it just as I was about to get out of the car & check the mailbox) - it must have been on the CBC Calgary radio station & they must have played it for a reason - maybe the singer died, or was playing the local casino (as many washed up sixties acts do) or was releasing a new LP or was it in a film??.....I heard it & thought that's a cracking tune because of the unique bass sound but then promptly forgot about it, until I heard "In the Summertime" recently & it sparked my memory of this song....
It's not an obscure Canadian band or anything like that, this is a song I've heard a few times before while living in the UK....
Unfortunately having heard so many songs after googling suggestions on here my mind is scrambled & I have a fuzzier recollection of the song now then before I made the original post........
The best clue has to be the Mungo Jerry/Bonzo's/Manfred Mann (presumably from their Doo Wah Diddy period), and the bass. oakster you have been a bit unclear about the bass, suggesting it could even be a deep woodwind sound, even something with a sense of humour like a bass bassoon. can you tell us a bit more about this bass sound?
