Saw him today for the first time. Very impressive for his age. Lets now put a four/five year contract offer to him and protect our investment! There's going to be a lot of big club interest in this lad!
I know it was only Welling , and the kids got a lot to learn , but there was a moment in the match today , where a 1 v 1 situation arose for Joe , i had my heart in my mouth , he just went up a gear and snuffed out the danger , will be interesting to see how his game develops, i know Joe's got International youth experience , just don't want to put too much pressure on the guy , and let him develop naturally.
Now seen him twice and imo he is miles ahead of Lennon.
Lennon has certainly filled out, but from what I've seen so far is nowhere near Championship standard.
He was all over the shop today - not helped by an equally poor Morrison - particularly frustating was his habit of hoofing the ball into touch every time he played a forward pass.
Be surprised if we hang on to Gomez beyond this season.
I absolutely agree Lennon has filled out, but he has gone a little backwards at the moment, I have seen him play better. it could be the growth has unbalanced him, or he has yet to learn to cope with more pressure (maybe he never will), but I am mindful that CB's can be late developers like Michael Turner and wouldn't write him off. We ought to spend the next two years trying to get Joe Gomez signed up long term, I am not sure what contractual status he really has at the moment, but would love to hear from the club he has a five year contract already, or even (officially) that he has any contract at all!
Doesn't surprise me the smallest bit, Big Bob has been waxing lyrical about him since he first seen him, and the club are posting this all officially. Bread and butter for the big clubs scouts to look into him and watch him, especially after the amazing U17 tourn he had.
If he's sought after now, a good few appearances performing in the first team we will struggle to fend teams off him. Looks promising for England National team, wonder what odds the bookies would slap on him having x amount of apps for England full internationals..
I am trying to understand Joe's contract situation. Since there has been no formal announcement on or since 23rd May when he was 17, yet the OS has stated he signed a 2 year contract 'earlier this year', is the most likely scenario that we broke the rules somewhat and signed him up in March for example, but that we dare not say that 'out loud' as it were because we may then face some sanctions of some kind? Or is there some other kind of system that I am not aware of?
Am I the only one that would be happy if Gomes and Pope started as 1st choices? Given Wiggins lack of fitness I can see Fox playing until November as well.

A pre-contract agreement can be signed which means the pro contract kicks in as soon as the player reaches 17. It happens across the country.
The claim that he is contracted until 2016 is worrying. If he has as good a season as Bob hopes then we'll be left with an 18 year old performing well in the second division with a year left to run on his contract. Joe might love the club and sign a new five year deal but more realistically he'll take the move. I would if I was a ball-playing defender offered game time by Roberto Martinez. Our best hope might be to give him a decent amount of football early on, then offer him a hefty pay-rise and extended deal in January
I'd be shocked if he hasn't already had opportunities to leave. I think our best chance of keeping him is offering him first team football. He's not likely to get that at a higher level for at least a couple of years. I know he's young especially for a centre back but I have a feeling he'll get a chance early on and he'll take it.
If he is on a 2 year deal I can't see why we would sell him now. It will only have started in May so he is unlikely to be unhappy already, as others have said I am sure he could have 'done a Palmer' on his 17th birthday if he had wanted.
If he is good enough, better to get him in the first team, even if he refuses to resign a new contract if he is good this year, next summer he will be worth more even with only 12 months left on his contract.
I do wonder why only 2 years given we gave Holmes Denis 3 and Ventokele 5?. I assume JG took advice from Poyet!

I've seen an account on twitter saying it could be for about 4 million euros
