Guaranteed if he starts in the opening league games a new contract will be put in front of him for 5yrs. We will not make the same mistake as we did with Poyet.

its normal to start the younger players off with a two year contract, long enough to keep hold of them and negotiate a good contract if they play well, gives them time to improve if they dont do it first year but also if they're poop we can release them. You don't want to offer a 17 year old 5 years and them sit on their arse like Michael Johnson did.

EDIT actually googled to see what he was up to, and unfortunately it wasnt bad attitude or physical injuries that caused Johnson demise, very very sad http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ex-manchester-city-player-michael-johnson-1231055

Big rumour on Merseyside is Gomez to Everton according to a mate up there and Everton fan. Let's hope we learn from Poyet.

I reckon from Bob Peeters comments that Morrison / Bikey and Ben-Haim are all fighting to be Gomez's partner in Defence next season at the moment anyway

He has only just signed a 2 year contract.

All I can say, to anyone suggesting, that Prem clubs are chasing Gomez, because Bob Peeters has been talking about him in the press. Get real !

Gomez has been playing for England youth teams for years. Do you suppose that Prem teams are unaware ?

I think when a player that young bursts into the First-Team these days they instantly have to be bigged up by the media as a "Wonderkid" and instantly linked to Arsenal / Chelsea and whatever other Premier League team gets pulled out of the hat.

Unfortunately because we got stung with the Diego Poyet drama it means we're naturally gonna be panicky whenever we see something like this again

I just wish that Bob would let it slip out that our wonderkid Welsh international striker had a £10m release clause in his contract and we're frantically trying to secure a new deal before the big clubs become aware of this..................

Everton are ready to make a move:

    http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/everton-to-make-a-move-for-charlton-starlet111/#

I've seen an account on twitter saying it could be for about 4 million euros

I know we're basically Belgian now but you think Everton would make an offer to us in pounds.

  • Do you think he could do a more than capable job at right back on Tuesday evening against Derby , and give our fella whose only 5 foot 3 knees a rest?

Yes but Wilson is probably more likely to play there.

I'd like to see Gomez at RB, Wilson at RM with Cousins and Buyens in the middle and Gudmundson on the left.

I think Solly won't play because of the risk and I would like to see Jacko given a rest too.

Always a weird one with Jacko , sometimes (like Saturday for instance) I look at him and think he's not as deserving as others that aren't in the side but then he pops up with massively important goals.

It's nice that at the moment big bad Bob's selection headaches are good ones rather than enforced by injury. It's also nice that we are quite spoilt by riches in the right back position.

Hope Joe Gomez can be at the club for a few years. With 3 additions Charlton are challenging top 6. Maybe Joe G can play in the premiership for Charlton in a couple of seasons. To have insurance, all that's needed is a sell on clause that enables him to leave for a fair price, that gives something back to the club and Academy. Hopefully negotiations are underway for a contract extension.

More than capable. Was hugely impressed by him against Colchester.

But why use a thread that hasn't been posted in for 5 years when the other has a month ago?

    A. Because it was the first one that came up on google search.

    B. Wtf does it matter ?.

    C. If it's a problem, delete old threads.

@Dazzler21 would you mind sticking that on the more up to date thread? It'll save us having another bout of bickering like that up there. Ta.
