In my opinion you are correct to say policing was a factor in the Hillsborough disaster, it was not however the only factor.
You are wrong to assert that had seats been in place instead of terracing the accident would not have occurred. Had seats been in place, and all other factors (policing policy / ticketing / stadium design / fencing / exits / numbers of people/ etc) remained unaltered, then the disaster would have been worse still. As you would have had the same number of people in the same amount of space, but with seats and the metalwork that supports them there as well.
Have to agree to disagree Sheffield Red, when the crowds flooded in against the back of the standing area it was bound to produce a toppling effect right to the front. With seats in place and people seated in them there might have been injuries, but not the tragedy that occurred. Have you signed the petition on here to get an inquest for one poor Mum, I think it's very worthwhile. Too much has been swept under the carpet.
In the above comment you argue that it would have been worse still with seats, then the next paragraph contend that it would not have been as bad if people were seated? eh?
Hats off to Aston Villa. And to the fan who has been going round the bigger clubs with a demo of the railing system used in the Bundesliga. And the Lib Dem MP who is pushing it onwards. All mentioned in http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/19/villa-park-terraces. Hope we can encourage CAFC to be at the forefront.
