Taken from into the valley forum

Not as yet but at least one season loan being lined up and also trying to bring Obika in too.

I understand that a bid for a CB has been put on the table and Stephens has had or will have a medical at another club very soon.

Another contact has indicated that Bournemouth are interested in a swop deal involving Danny Hollands. They are looking to offload striker Wes Thomas but that does not mean to say he is the player involved.

We are also interested in an overseas player and one from Peterborough and another possibly from Bristol City. It could be that the CB and the Peterborough player are the same person in Zakuani but that is me putting 2 + 2 together.

CP having to wheel and deal rather than offer hard cash but our owner could be open to persuasion if a meeting with CP goes to plan.

Despite what is said about him,Reams was right two years ago about Matt Taylor and Rhoys Wiggins amongst others and with his connections and he does sometimes have genuine insider info.

He goes on in the thread to suggest that Bristol City striker Steven Davies was one of the five players who were allegedly lined up last summer.

I always thought that we might target Bristol City and Peterborough players and Zakuani would be perfect as one of the four CB's.

On another matter Cawley reports in the SLP that we are looking at Joe Martin of Gillingham (Alvin's son) as an option if Cedric Evina does not stay.Ceddy is looking for two years and we have only offered one,the way Cawley views it there is a strong possibility Ceddy might stay a completely different emphasis to Sky last week.
He also said that CP was 'clueless' and that he would be definitely be gone in the summer.

    The man's a vulgar buffoon.
  • Rich Cawleys not that bad! ;-)

  • Interesting follow up to that post is:

"Bradley Jordan isn't leaving. He's been given another one year contract - it just hasn't been announced by the powers that be yet."

When will the OS give the news on youth/development contracts I wonder

I asked them politely on twitter a couple of weeks ago. I got no reply.

    From what I can tell..

Bradley Jordan was definitely given another year.

6 of the 7 second-year scholars got a pro deal of some sort - Tom Derry being the exception.

  • Steven Davies - am I missing something? Scored 5 in 60 games for Tranmere, yet a tribunal valued him at £725,00 plus add-ons to Derby. He was only slightly more prolific for the Rams, 21 in 83 games yet they managed to squeeze £750k out of Bristol City. Now he may be a player like yann whose game is about more than scoring, but I can't see two similar players up fron
  • The club mentione Bradley Jordan's new deal months ago. He was originally on a contract until December 2012 and it was extended until June 2014.

Interesting but not unexpected. Will have a fairly big development squad with 6 players moving up, I guess some of last years team may go out on loan.
  • south Africans that did well for us!? mark fish and shaun bartlett

Charlton looking to sign midfielder Dean Furman if Dale Stephens moves elsewhere #cafc

"Dean Furman (born 22 June 1988) is a South African footballer who plays for English League One club Oldham Athletic."

Can't remember one South African player whose ever done well for us so it's a no from me.
We had a plethora of them in the 50s and 60s?

    Ironic rather than sarcastic

Really like Furman. Very dangerous player

  • The website said that he was a winger who could play left back. Is it wrong? Or is

21 in 83 might not be prolific, but its a lot better than 5 in 60 and 1 goal every 4 matches isn't that bad, although i would like to think we could do better

    Hook, line & sinker :-)
  • Furman always impressed me in league 1, he's a good leader on the pitch as well.
  • We do have a good history of South African players. That said I don't think we should sign him just because he is South African. Obviously we should sign the most qualified candidate.

Nah. I think we should sign him if he's SA even if he's useless
  • Chris Dixon !
  • No Saffers, not now, not ever.

What was Yann's goal scoring record before he joined us? In Powell we trust.
  • Bristol forum mainly slates him, worst trait which is a surprise as CP target - unfit and likes a beer.

If true, I doubt he's a CP target then.

  • Incidentally, neither am I. For the same reasons.
