This really is a tricky situation for the new owners if you look at it from their perspective.

Option 1) Renew the contract of the manager who is loved by the fans, but has your club in the relegation zone. This will allow us to renew Kermorgant's contract.
Option 2) Don't decide on SCP's contract until the end of the season, and we will lose our best player. And also possibly be relegated.

Don't know how this is going to pan out.

...with two games in hand, both at home, one of which is against a relegation rival.
  • I wonder how the arrival of the Liege players is affecting morale within the squad. Seemed like we had a very tight knit squad last year and new signings were carefully planned and integrated. Now that we are it could be argued a feeder club for SL - is this unity and spirit in jeapordy?

If powell signs an 18 month extension with a review in the summer, we are effectively in the same position. KMG and others wanting assurances on the boss' future wont sign now knowing powell could be gone in june despite signing new deal in january. It needs to be a proper contract, signed now, if it will have any bearing on retaining yann et al.

Can't see KMG getting more than a 2 year contract at his age , he is contracted until the end of the season,it would be madness to sell him to Bournemouth who in my opinion could still get sucked into the relegation mire.
  • I am sure they are working on both contracts as we speak

no mate not from what I have heard the new guys are good players and have settled in well,

this issue is all because contracts have run so low and the players are pissed off that the mgr they all like and respect even those who are not in the playing squad respect has been having to deal with running a championship club like a part time tin pot operation

  • @KadsDaniel: Happy to have signed a new deal with Charlton fc today. Onwards and upwards!

We're obviously offering contracts at the moment .
  • easy to sign kids like this up though. low wages and I bet negotiations took a nano second. plus they ain't exactly that concerned who will be their first team manager next week, month or even season.
  • NLA seems to be getting some info which I assume is from a friend on the inside, If he thinks it will all be ok then i assume CP may sign a new contract soon?

  • Kermorgants going nowhere IMO
  • when you consider how highly rated young kadel is then it is great news, The players should not be concentrating on nothing else but tomorrows match right now so I hope none of them are talking to anyone

Says loads in this day and age when the players have that much respect for our manager. Would love Powell to be here for years to build something like curbs was allowed to do.

Think him and Fox will battle to be the reserve LB next year, Think Ceddy needs to go out and be a number 1 somewhere now. Unless of course Rhoys goes.
  • If we signed Wood and Reza and kept Yann we would have had a phenomenal transfer window. Of course it's all speculation until it happens and we've seen dozens of rumours never go beyond a Twitter post but if we could pull this off it would be incredible.
  • I just think it will all work out, I do not know that for sure,

If Powell was going to be sacked I think it would've happened by now, Roland doesn't really care for contracts of mgrs. he has shown that at his other interests if Powell signed a 1,2 or 3 yr I doubt it would influence the decision to retain or let go

There could well be others involved in the footballing direction and decision process that maybe are not in the club right now, perhaps a DOF this may be worth considering as to why things haven't all been concluded, but may be happening in the background this also is not 100% just something that has been mentioned to me and I am trying to ascertain if it has legs,
  • The timing of this is not ideal for all concerned. Think we will probably be ok but it just makes me despise Slater and Jimenez that little bit more.
  • Why in heavens name would he want to go to Bournemouth

    Oi!!!

Would be a strange one from AFCB point of view. If true could only be because Bournemouth lack any physical presence now Wes Thomas has left for Rotherham. Grabban and the other guy Rantie are quick and mobile but not really in Yanns league in hold up play.

Rantie btw was £2.5m in case you were wondering why anyone would sign for Bournemouth ie they have more money than us. In Yanns case he's also a only a short ferry ride away from the Briton coast and "home".

    Hope it's just agent talk...

Too small / has hamstring problems / couldnt do it on a cold night in Doncaster / List is endless

Doubt he could even control or pass it properly on our pitch...

If we've signed Koc then imho it's with a view to him being part of the first team squad. Why would we waste one of our potential loans from Liege on a player for the development squad? What would he really be learning in our U21s that he wouldn't in Liege's?

Harriott showed last season that an 18 year old winger can come in and have an impact on the team and the general consensus seem to be that Callum has lost his way a little bit in recent months. I suspect CP is just trying to manage the amount of expectation put on young Anil's shoulders by saying he's just come to train with us. Would be very surprised if he doesn't feature for the first team in some capacity.

Sounds promising that we might be signing Goochy, but it would still be nice to have a couple of experienced Championship players come in, and hopefully we'll keep hold of our better players until at least the summer.
  • "We are hearing that Blackburn Rovers are eyeing a move for Leeds United forward Luke Varney. Blackpool have also shown an interest in signing Varney before the transfer window slams shut, but Blackburn are now thought to be leading the chase for the Derby man. "

Sky are all over the place

Boooo to that! Say it ain't so NLA!

Surely though, it's not appealing to any current player or transfer target if the manager isn't ties down beyond May?
  • Even managers with contracts get sacked so a bit of a stupid position to base your renewal decision on the contract situation of the manager IMO. The best way to keep a manager in the job is to get the results he needs to please the owner. If a player feels that so strongly, sweat blood for the cause.

Yes but in this case Muttley, we've just changed owners.

Not unreasonable for players to want some assurances that the new owners, at least at this time, intend to keep employing the man who wants to sign them.

You only have to look at Zaha's situation to see how a managerial change can screw a players career up - at least in the short term.
