Really pissing me off people calling him a yes man or puppet.
In fact it's a bit insulting of the man who's earned his football qualifications, clearly has new ideas and styles and has experience in a decent top flight league in Europe.
Give him a chance ffs.
Les Reed came back to Charlton having been technical director at the FA. He's now head of development at a decent premiership team. Doesn't mean he can manage though.
Jose "Roland I've picked the team you wanted is there anything else you need doing?"
Roland "Can you and the chino kid come and wipe my arse and tell me how amazing I am please".
Jose "yes Roland, yes....Yes Roland of course.. I'll get the extra soft right away."
A lot of people seem to be asserting that Duchatelet was telling Chris Powell who to play. Do we know that's what has been going on? Clearly, they had football related disagreements, but there are many other issues that could have involved. It would be interesting to know what Powell wanted and where Duchatelet drew a line in the sand.

Fair enough he should get a chance, but if Powell was ousted because he had the cheek to want to be in charge of the football side of the club, you can only assume Riga is happy to be told what to do from the top. Which does make him a yes man.

Spot on mate . Feel sorry for the bloke already he'll never be a success with the fans on he's back from the beginning .
I've looked up all your comments since you came onto the list on January 27th this year, they are insistently and unrelentingly pro new regime and your profile includes photos only of Duchatelet 'signing/loanees' - it all feels a bit like a 'plant' to me. Who are you working for? LOL
Roland was always going to bring someone in from abroad, that most of us would never ever heard of, if Powell would not go along with his ideas.
Riga has come in and he could be the new Lennie, or the new Les Reed. Time will tell, but having a go at the fella before we have seen his ideas is idiotic. Give him a chance and judge him at the end of the season.
Personally I think he has his hands tied like Powell did, but maybe we will see better tactical play with the players he has at his disposal.

It's nice to have a fan glad you've looked up my posts , and i just back my club that's all.

Or it may just mean he's happy to work under a Director of Football (or similar) who brings the players in for him. Powell understandably didn't want to change from manager to head coach and not choose his own signings. I'd imagine Riga has worked in a similar structure as manager/head coach in Belgium.
It works for clubs outside of this country, with the right people it could work here. Just a lot less likely to happen with a British manager.
Riga took Liege to the last 16 of the Europa League in the 2011/12 season, winning their group before eventually being knocked out of the competition by Hannover 96 over two legs.
Earlier in this career, Riga won the Belgian second division with R.A.E.C. Mons for the first time in the club’s history in his first year in charge.
In the following season he led the side to a respectable ninth-place finish in the Jupiler Pro League before eventually parting company with the club in 2008.
The above was on the OS today.
Now I am not about to start forming opinions about this fella, BUT his history does not feel me with joy and optimism

You mention that we should judge him at the end of the season.
This is from the club statement:
“However, given the club’s position in the league and the number of important fixtures upcoming, I felt this difficult decision was unavoidable at this time.
“We will look to quickly appoint a replacement who we feel will give us the best chance of avoiding relegation from the Championship."
I take the 'number of important fixtures upcoming' to mean tomorrow against Huddersfield Town, and Saturday against relegation and local rivals Millwall. So it seems the club have appointed him now in order to deliver straight away.
The statement also heavily implies that Jose Riga has been appointed to 'avoid relegation'.
At least two stages of 'judgement' lined up there, right now, and at the end of the season.
Like everyone else who comes into this fine club of ours, I'll judge them on what they do here not what's gone before. To that end I think it's too early to make a proper assessment of anyone involved in the takeover and certainly too soon to say anything much at all about Riga.
If it was me, I would've retained Powell but I do take a crumb of comfort from the fact that it appears to have been footballing differences and not results that have brought things to a head. We're all assuming that it means RD was pissed off that the network players haven't featured much, but it could equally be that Powell simply doesn't buy into the network idea and it became clear during contract negotiations that RD and CP were never going to be able to think sufficiently alike to develop a good working relationship. It does seem to me like there has been a genuine effort on both sides to find a way forward, albeit that RD has admitted defeat first.
Time will tell if we've lost one of English footballs brightest young managers or a tactically flawed lower league boss. Time will tell if RD is a football visionary or is building a sporting equivalent of the Spruce Goose. However, I don't see that because RD has brought in a person familiar to him means he wants a yes man, I find it more likely that he brought in a man he knows he can work with, that doesn't necessarily mean they always have to agree. The fact it's a person already known to RD is hardly surprising and IMO not necessarily a bad thing - time is not on our side and we don't really have time to be hunting around for an English manager that will buy into RD's vision because I suspect they're a bit thin on the ground. Of course some of the advantages of his familiarity with RD will be cancelled out by his unfamiliarity with English football, but it is still football - we're not a Rugby club and there are still people at the club very well versed in the peculiarities.
I will say it's utterly shitty what CP has had to deal with in the last 2 years and I'm really sad it hasn't worked out for him, I'd have liked nothing more than for the Son of Curbs to carry on the adopted family tradition, but what has happened is not Riga's fault so he deserves his chance to show his quality. Likewise, RD's master plan has not had enough time to bare fruit yet... we'll just have wait and see if that fruit is juicy and sweet or rotten and bad. My gut feeling is RD is not being entirely straight with us but I'm not in the know and will give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
Its an intriguing selection. Someone who is clearly very intelligent - not your 'typical' British football manager - comes over more Wenger than Allardyce. I believe that what he may offer will certainly be more 'diverse' than what was served up by Powell last Sunday. I certainly will be behind him and the Team - its what Chris would have wanted , i'm sure. He wouldnt have wanted anything other than Charlton to be successful and would want us to do well. I assume that Chris's coaching staff (or at least Dyer) will be replaced by Riga's Choice? Lets get behind him - he deserves a chance to succeed, and deserves to get as much help as Chris did.
God help Riga if the team tomorrow is heavily loaded with the RD loanees. I think it will confirm all of our fears about Riga being RD's puppet. Very interesting times ahead.

Or its heavily loaded with RD's loanees and we play well and win.!
.............and It still bothers me that RD saves £4m if we go down. Katriene clearly took exception to that suggestion at the recent VIP meeting but everything so far leaves me feeling that we are planning for an assault on League 1 next year. Hard to see how someone so unfamiliar with English football will hit the ground running quick enough to turn things around in 2 months.

We will see about Riga, I suppose
Unbelievable!
Get real FFS. It's sarcasm Andy....
Glad someone sees sense.
Give the guy a chance, it's not his fault Powell is gone.

I just can't justify everything that has happened today and the way Chris Powell has been treated.
I assume judging by the fact JR has managed at liege before and been sacked etc that the two know each other well.
I can also vision the loan players coming into the side a lot more than before...
I hope he is successful I just don't like the way it's been done.
;-)
to me hes half ronnie more half flash gordon.
