The old 'no loyalty in football' gets trotted out when a player leaves, but there's just as much loyalty as there is guarantee. In no way can Poyet be blamed for living for the moment.
The difference between him and Parker is that a bigger. club came sniffing while he was contracted to us, and he made it evidently clear half way through a season that he wanted to piss off.
The club let quite a few young players go just a few weeks ago. We all wished them well as far as I can remember and there was none of the bile being spouted here and on twitter.
Our previous owners didn't have the wit or wisdom to sign him up on a long contract, so until a few months ago how do you think the lad felt about his own prospects at Charlton? He wasn't in the team, squad and was going to be left on the scrapheap in the summer.
Loyalty in football comes 99% from us, the fans, with notable exceptions of dedicated workers and volunteers particularly at clubs outside the Premiership.
There are, sadly, few players and managers who show that same loyalty. But why should they when owners of clubs show none of that loyalty to them. From what I can remember, Diego was the only player to break ranks and tweet his thanks to first Chris Powell and then Jose Riga, when both lost their jobs.
I saw that as a sign of a very humble and polite young man who was acknowledging his thanks to his managers.
His contract with Charlton is now over and he moves on as easily as we released those other players a few weeks ago.
I am delighted to have seen the games he played for us. I think he is a very special talent and I wish him all the best for the future. I wish a little more of it had been with us, but I won't wish him anything but the best.7 -
The annoying thing is that had we never put him in the first team we might've had a better chance of tying him down on a long term contract.

What annoys me the most about Poyet is that he could sign say a 4 year contract with us, play a couple of seasons, get 100 appearances behind him & still only be 21, he could then make the next step with a different club if we haven't progressed, and we would get a good fee for him. So everyone would win!2

Bloody hell what shit news to come home to. Absolutely gutted, this boy is going to be a superstar and it's a shame we haven't seen him to his full potential yet. Good luck Diego really hope you have a fantastic career at the top, but if you chase the pound note and sit in the reserves for some crap club like Chelsea for the next few years then it's your own fault and I hope you never fulfill your true potential like that twat Scott Parker0

Long winded way of saying I think Poyet did owe us a contract so we could get a 'return on our investment', I think all youth players do (unless we are really taking the piss).
As I posted earlier, Poyet signed his first contract and he has seen it out, he certainly did not owe us two.2 -

I do keep forgetting that Poyet single handedly saved us from relegation last season. Must have imagined Jose Riga and actual goals from Cousins, Reza, Jackson, Harriott and Sordell.8

Wanky, classless from him. He can go fuck himself rotten in the turgid cesspool of a top tier teams reserves. We all knew he wouldn't be with us long. He could and should have signed a contract if for nothing else than to repay a bit of faith knowing him leaving would boost the clubs security a bit. Like Jonjo did.
I'm sick of the analogies comparing this sort of behaviour to a normal workplace. It is not comparable and I don't need to explain why.

Poyet has signed / is signing for Chelsea according to a few rumours on Twitter. Could he have made a worse decision if that's true? Even De Bruyne can't get a game there and they've just signed Fabregas.

Wasn't the first, won't be the last. It's the way this game is now, more than ever.
Who could expect a 19 year old kid to make the best decision for himself - just look at the range of advice on here. It must be his professional advisers who should have his best career prospects in mind, which IMHO would have been served best by giving us another half or even full season. No-one knows what he's really capable of. Aside from getting the game time with us, we would have shown him that rarest of gifts in football - the gift of patience. We would have seen him through losses of form and if he lost his place through injury or suspension it wouldn't have seen him dumped back in obscurity. No such luck in the big outside world - unless the player is supremely talented or very very lucky, pro football is a giant lottery. Well, exciting times for you, son, but someone's gambling with your future. Hope he doesn't let you down - 20 games haven't (yet) made you a star, only a free agent.
For CAFC this is collateral damage from the previous regime. It's unlikely to happen again.

Not suprised he's gone. Could blame Jimenez and the illuminati for not getting him on a longer contract earlier but I can't be bothered. If the nob heads had actually signed a few players then Diego would probably would have a big fat zero in the games played column.

If he really has gone to Chelsea - and they may just be rumors - then he would have just f----d up his career with one stroke of a pen.
Chelsea barely play their OWN youth players - look at McEachran being farmed out on loan everywhere and regressing as a result - let alone an 18 year-old from Charlton.
He'd be better off going to Villa or another mid-Premiership club where he'd have a shot at playing - look at the upswing in Jonjo Shelvey's career when he went to Swansea.8 -

I think Poyet realised he was never going to be in a similar situation to Shelvey and Jenkinson where we could sell them easily even shortly after they penned new deals.
It is a shame poyet is going but he has conducted himself in such a way that said 'I'm off' since even before the last game of the season.
He played out of his skin to get noticed, not for the benefit of the club, just for Diego. Lucky for us his playing well coincided with our need to stay up.
Then he took credit for us staying up, during that 4 months he could have signed an extension as a gesture to the club but no.
And that is why I think he's a little prick.

So lets say the rumours are true and he is on his way to Chelsea. How is going to a club like Chelsea or whoever it is "greedy"?
Moving from Arsenal to Chelsea, or United to City to get a 10% payrise - thats greed.
Not moving from Charlton at the bottom of the Championship to a club that are in a completely different stratosphere as us FFS.
One thing this outcome has demonstrated is that there are an absolute ton of pratts who support our club who have a heightened opinion of where we are in the pecking order of the sport.8
