  • We're 44-1 at tea, Patel going for 20.
  • 111-3
    Burns 57 n.o.
    Foakes 26 n.o.
  • 111-3
    Burns 57 n.o.
    Foakes 26 n.o.

Had we bowled like we should have tomorrow would have been very interesting.
As it is I cannot see past a draw
  • 135-4 at the close, leading by 45.
  • Rain delayed play today, but at tea we're 200-4, Foakes on 67* and Pope on 40*. The lead is 110.
  • Proper innings from Popey there. In his second game.

Congrats on the ton. Forst of many let's hope.

Shame Foakes couldn't go on and grab a hundred before the close. Would have been good for his confidence. Hasn't got one in the championship this year.
  • Surrey 126-0 against Yorkshire at lunch on Day 1 at The Oval, Burns on 50* and Stoneman on 72*

Team news sees Freddie van den Bergh make his debut, while Sangakkara is back after returning from the CPL.
  • Are The Oval pitches more like the tracks we will play on down under than the English test pitches? If so, I think Stoneman will do well.
  • Burns c Hodd b Brooks 75

    178-1
  • Century for Mark Stoneman! Ryan Patel has joined him at the crease following Burns's dismissal.

    183-1

  • Stoneman c S Marsh b Brenan 131

    250-2
  • Patel c Hodd b Sidebottom 27

    255-3
  • 259-3 at tea, Sangakkara on 10* and Foakes on 2*.
  • 50 for Sangakkara... obviously.

    320-3
  • Been following on and off today between work.

FVDB playing as Virdi has a side strain. Surprised he hasn't already made his debut. He played a few t20 and one dayers a couple of years ago. Glad he gets a chance. Been at the club 10 years. Does have a first class hundred for MCCU a while back.

Good to see Popey and Patel given a chance after good performances last time out. Shame we couldn't have fit Roy in as by the sounds of this pitch he could have caused havoc, and he scored some important runs in the last couple games when we were missing Sanga Rocky etc.

Dropping Borthwick was probably the right call as he's been poor with bat and ball since the first few weeks of the season.
  • Apparently this pitch is even flatter than the one for the Hampshire game when Burns hit a double ton.

At least this time we won the toss and batted so we have a chance to win the game.

Rocky was immense this morning as was burns whose conversion rate continues to let him down slightly.
  • 50 for Ben Foakes

    390-3 now
  • 398-3 at the close, Sangakkara on 85* and Foakes on 64*.
  • Max batting points on the cards. We need to be aiming for 600. Scoreboard pressure is the only way to win a game on a pitch like this.

Either that or hope overhead conditions swing in our favour when we bowl.
  • It is quite incredible to think that Sangakkara will be retiring in a season when he is probably going to be the top scoring batsman (and have the best average too) in the County Championship. But then who is to argue with the decision of a player who is such a class act?

Will be big boots for your lot to fill next season especially in Stoneman cements his place in the England team too.

  • Centuries for Sangakkara (164) and Foakes (110) this morning, and we've scored at quite a lick too, reaching lunch on 543-7.
  • All these runs.....and Pope's out first ball!!
  • Van den Bergh and Meaker have gone in consecutive deliveries, both lbw to Patterson.

    555-9
  • 592 all out.
Nearly 600 runs in a day and a half!!

    Clarke went for 41, Batty 12 n.o.
  • Unusual to have such a road-like track at the Oval....
  • Batting Points this season.

    Surrey 37
    Next best 27
  • Bowling Points this season

    Surrey 26
only bottom of the table Warks have less with 23
  • Yorkshire 78-0 at tea.
  • Kohler-Cadmore c Patel b van den Bergh 78

    171-1
  • And that's also the score at close of play.
