England v Sri Lanka Test Series

1st Test at Lords. SL won the toss and put England in, on a wicket, that looked, a little green.

England 59-2 15 overs

Robson c P Jayawardene b Pradeep 1. Caught in the slips, chasing one.

Cook b Kulasekera 17. Bowled, playing on.

Ballance 18 no

Bell 14 no.

The ball is seaming around.

SL are bowling well. England are batting ok imo, on a seaming wicket.

    Perfect :-)

  • 98-3 at lunch.

    Bell 41 no.
    Root 6 no.
  • I suspect Cook will be glad that the World Cup will overshadow how we do in this Test series, and the inevitable questions about KP!

Can't we bring KP back and tell Cook his England career is over? He is a rubbish captain and has lost any form with the bat so what is the point?

Cook went through similar form in 2010 with calls for him to be dropped. We know what happened next ...
  • Interesting point on TMS - Saturday sees the Football, Cricket and Rugby teams all in first class action - has this happened before?

Got day off work on Monday, so hoping SL bat well, and it goes to 5 days.

I'm fairly sure it happens virtually every 2 years.

  • Excellent comeback. Well played Root, Prior (Matt not Nathan), Bell and Ali.

Bit of luck for Prior, being given not out on 0, when he was :-)

3 years ago we played Sri Lanka at Lords. They won the toss & put us in. Close of play we were 345/6 with Matt Prior on 73 not out.

And ended up getting 486 with Matty Prior getting a century- thats the key point to this post.
  • We bat deep, good recovery, over the moon for Root, Ali and Prior
  • Good day especially for root and prior. Both under pressure to perform. Especially prior with bairstow and butler breathing down his neck. The Aussie flopped then ?

He was looking good and solid I thought, but then he chased a wide one & edged it to slip.

Yep, lets hope he's out of the team before we play the Aussies next year.
  • Thought they would have given carberry a home series.

Think they have made a decision to look towards youth - bit like Charlton really.

  • Just watching the highlights on 5

Ballance looked a fish out of water, lets hope thats nerves not technique.

Joe Root has a sensational technique. He can be a Wall. Coming in at 4 or 5 he will bat all day long if the situation demands. Most technical player we have produced since Belly who has always been out of this world in terms of the shots he has in his locker....
