As a Surrey fan seen Jordan play live plenty of times! I know he struggled with injuries, but can't believe he has turned it around! from being completely ineffective, even in second team games to now playing a test match for England!

I think its confidence with Jordan, he has all the attributes but I think going to Sussex was make-or-break and he has just got better and better.

From what I have seen of him his bowling has a touch of Botham about it.

Hmmmm, long way to go before he can be compared with Sir Ian.

Can't we bring KP back and tell Cook his England career is over? He is a rubbish captain and has lost any form with the bat so what is the point?

Cook went through similar form in 2010 with calls for him to be dropped. We know what happened next ...
The difference was that he was being brought on - the captancy clearly doesn't suit him and if he was dropped, he might come back as the batsman he became. As a captain, he is a coward on and off the pitch.

Prior reaches 4,000 test runs. The third English WK to do so after Knott and Stewart.

Are you saying Cook is a coward ? Please enlighten me.

PS 386-6. Hope we can make it to 400 before Cook is sacked and Pietersen replaces him.

I meant that he gets a lot of wickets with crap deliveries where batsmen get themselves out with poor shots, he has a touch of the Golden Arm about him.
  • Cook showing negative captaincy again in my opinion. Could've declared some time ago & had a go at them. We have enough runs

Absolutely not! Pitch is only gonna get worse.. foothold already showing! Big first innings score essential! Use scoreboard pressure and grind them into the dirt!

Agreed. They are looking demoralised and increasingly ragged.

Keep them out there and exhaust them and put them in, with an hours play to go, if we're not all out before.

Need to build as many runs as possible for individual and team morale - belief is what needs to be developed with this new look team, and runs do that more than simple wins (though both runs and wins obviously have a cumulative effect!)

Wrong. As said good for morale and good to demoralise Sri Lanka. Plus, we will try to not bat again in this match and to do that we need as many runs as possible.

  • Well done Joe Root, superb! Fair play to the Sri Lankans, every one of them going up to him one by one to congratulate. Good stuff, won't see that in Brazil! ;-)

I am saying he is a coward - he had the international career of England's best player in his hands - which is a ridiculous situation anyway - and he took the cowardly option. Somebody like Shane Warne would never have done such a thing - but he is twice the man and captain Cook has shown himself to be.

Hated the way he was reluctant to give Butler the praise he deserved either!

Agreed, we'll beat Sri Lanka in the series, if we dont, so what ?! - its India we want to beat, and Root getting 200 means we have more chance of beating India - its all about building morale and team spirit before the big Test comes this year.

My personal view is that Cook is not a good captain - he is far too negative and reactive to be a good Test Captain.
I remember one particular instance at The Rose Bowl in an ODI when SA were batting and they lost 3 early wickets, and their debutant Elgar came to the crease - it was all geared up for a Anderson/Broad onslaught to the newbie, and what did he do?.... he immediately brought on Bopara !.

On the subject of cooks captaincy we've seen that when he loses confidence in someone particularly a bowler. He then stops bowling them and they soon stop featuring! We saw this with Finn Kerrigan and others..
