"I've always wanted to try playing in England and I believe I have good opportunities to play and continue my development at Charlton. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for me, even though it is not an easy decision," he said.
"I would like to thank everyone at FC Copenhagen because they have given me the chance to become a better player and experience Europa League and Champions League football."
Copenhagen manager Ståle Solbakken revealed a competition for places in the Lions attack forced their hand on the Vetokele deal.
"We think it sensible to agree to the offer and give Igor the opportunity to experience his dream of playing in England at Charlton," he said.
I thought the fixtures were out Thursday, not Wednesday.
Tomorrow 9am always a pleasure looking forwards...
I believe it is essential we continue with mid-table form (which Riga delivered) in the first 10 games albeit with changes in personnel and by far the youngest squad in the division. If we get to Christmas and nowhere near the bottom three then the point is proved: CAFC average age 22 losing £3m a year...AFC Bournemouth average age 28 losing £15m... Which club has a future?!
You seem to think that a young squad is a strength, rather than a weakness. What makes you think that our young players are better than those at other Championship clubs? Bournemouth are far more likely to reach the play-offs next season than we are.
Good question! My simple answer is that our academy wins the u18 league every other year. When one looks at the sheer quality and value of the top 8 clubs...squads with the top 20 players worth £20m + then you realise how far Bournemouth, Wednesday, Ipswich etc have to go to get there. Bournemouth looked good for the last six months but are about to be excluded from registering players in 6 months time, unless they start selling players to balance the books. If they don't get promoted they are on a slippery slope as are several other clubs. Whereas we have lowered our costs and losses. And we are increasing the average value of the players in our squad in two ways: by letting 10 go and by banking on the increasing value of Fox, Lennon, Cousins, Harriott etc. Long term deals for u23s who are good enough means that in 2015 we will be in a good place. As long as we stay up and play better football on a better pitch with one of the best academies in the division then we have a winning strategy because we play more and more academy players and the FFP limits keep reducing. Many clubs are losing £8-10m. All those mid table clubs will have to cut their cloth while in a years time, we will have a squad average age aged 23 many with 100 games under their belts. I believe this works as long as the management and owner raise their game on permanent AND loan signings to help the youth. Today's news suggests that perhaps they are raising their game?
I have backed them to do this because the alternative is to piss around at the bottom of the table and get relegated!
But none of us can really make a call until we see who signs and watch a few games and the first 18 in action. And that's why I look forward to the fixtures tomorrow and a handful of new signings to help ensure we have a decent start.
looks OK but Reza was very highly rated and couldn't cope with English football. After the January transfer window I think we should reserve our judgement until we have seen him play!
I think you should reserve judgement on Reza.
We saw him play half a season in a team that created about one chance per match, if that.
He was quality yesterday for Iran. I reckon he will be good next season for us.

Absolutely. I bet Big Bad Bob has got some special coaching lined up for him, based on his own playing experience. And Welcome, Igor !! Another piece of the jigsaw ....
We don't know too much about him but it seems to be a positive development. Hopefully we will have a few more positive developments in the coming weeks. I think we need to.

Can I be jealous of this piece of insightful analysis?
Is a very good written comment and I also very much agree with it.
Only thing that worries me is when more and more clubs start failing FFP will those same Chairmen try to get the rulings amended so they're not punished
It already happened this season just thankfully the majority of the clubs had been sticking to the rules so the change requests were thrown out...
I suspect the rush to publicise this non-network signing before it has been finalised is in part to be able to show that deals are being done but also so that there is a "non-network" deal announced before more players arrive from Liege.
Personally I haven't got a problem with that Communication strategy or where the players come from.
I'm glad the Club management see the value in letting the fans know.
And it's what players do while with Charlton that matters to me not their nationality, previous club or what side they dress on.
Sorry, a complaint. I have waited weeks for a striker, and then they give me another one whose name I can't pronounce ! He will have to put up with me calling him Igor Blimey. Welcome son, I like your style.

Thanks for your well-reasoned and informative response, Seriously Red. Described in that way, the plan for CAFC makes very good sense.
Before joining Copenhagen he scored nine times in 38 games for Cercle Brugge in the 2011-12 campaign, a side then managed by current Addicks boss Bob Peeters.

Prolific.

I'm sorry but up until Sordell's Hatrick how many had he scored...? How many did Simon Church Score...? How about Yann? not including Penalties or free kicks...?
So is he a upgrade on what we currently have? ... YES
Seriously there is not pleasing some people on here!

"I gors whens I's wants"
Piotr Whatshisname sounded like a great name for a striker but he seems like a bad investment
We will all know by September
