  • A good signing, Wood last summer, Moussa this summer, Coventry are in a terrible mess at the moment

  • A midfielder! Who runs! And scores! I'm really excited about this. Bit concerned that it's only a 2 year deal as if he performs as well as I think he might he'll be off, but I'm really happy with this. Typical of us though, even the players we pick up off other English teams are Belgian!

Might have been part of why he signed for us?
I think a fair number of the squad are signed to 2016 or 2017 so looks like we have the current squad + additions and loans for two years... Quite stable for CAFC!

Good signing I think... Still hoping we get quality replacements for Hamer and Dervite.

  • Great signing, we needed more goals and creativity in midfield, that is what he brings to the team.
  • Very happy with this, hopefully he will bring some creativity and goals to the midfield. I assume he is an attacking midfielder? So he could play in front of Cousins in a diamond midfield.

If we keep this up we will have a very decent team going into next season, just need some wingers, centre backs and another striker.
  • Very very happy with this one. Great signing. Looks like Big Bob is setting up the squad for a 4-3-3 formation with plenty of CM and quick attacking players up top. Am... Am I... actually... feeling... excitement?
  • Been waiting to see where this guy would turn up, expected him to go to Leeds or forest so surprised he signed with us.
Scored some great goals if he gets 8-10 for us next year he will be an absolute steal.

  • That's a top signing . Let's hope we don't "charltonise" him eh . Don't boo if he doesn't score 5 goals on his debut eh . There's good lads

    Agree

    4 - 3- 3

    Bailly

    Solly Morrison Johnson Wiggins

    Cousins Moussa Buyens

    Igor Big Lump Harriot

    Could be fun to watch.
So Pope takes another step back
  • very happy with this. attacking midfielder, scores goals, Belgian. what's not to like.

Is it a prerequisite for all new signings to be Belgium and like wearing denim shirts?
  • Id actually have Jackson in instead of cousins as a holding player personally, but a nice line up. Set up a bit like Belgium last night. Oh hold on...

Training daily with a (former) international is gonna ruin him

No but not getting first team football might, Since Hamer left everyone has been saying great Pope gets a chance, he impressed when he was on loan at york, if Bailly comes in Pope will be sitting on the bench week in week out

Everyone remembers Harper at Newcastle, never given a chance, when it looked like he was gonna be after Given left they quickly signed someone else

I know some people think i do but i don't really get a say in who signs or plays. It was just a prediction that the older more experienced and more belgian player might start.

That set up seems to be popular in Belgium and Holland.

Steve McLaren used it at Twente and brought it to Derby last season. If we're anywhere near as exciting to watch as they are, I'll be a happy man.
  • Who is Johnson?

Have I missed a new signing?

Find it hard to get excited about signing a Division One player to be honest.

Hope he is a goodun though.

Yeah I'm sure Blackburn and burnley were gutted when they signed Jordan Rhodes and Charlie Austin.
what has that got to do with how I feel about our signing?

Imagine he is referring to Roger Johnson who is being linked.

Well perhaps he should train with the former international for 6 months (and sit on the bench for that experience alone) and then join a Lg1 team in Jan for 6month 1st team experience...with a journeyman / aging / loan from sister club keeper sitting on bench for us for emergencies until Pope can be recalled if required

Ah ok thanks. I wasn't aware of that link.

Or we sign another keeper (which is a must) and Pope starts as number 2. He is told he is number 2 because of age but to keep working hard and push the number 1. He will continue to learn here and may get a chance. Both Button and Alnwick started on the bench and ended up getting game time. Its not a negative to start him as number 2. We cannot rely on him yet just because he did well in League 2.
Is having 2 keepers competing a bad thing? Obviously not.
  • I've seen some of his excellent goals before, but just looked at this & I'm really really pleased now.
    Some great goals in there.

Wont take long for him to be Charltonised and the ball boys to be running down Floyd Road
  • Feedback from Cov mate:

He's alright, typical flair player in that he scores some great goals, but goes missing a lot in games.

    Racon?
  • Very pleased with this, he did wonders at Coventry last year and a few of their fans were surprised he wasn't snapped up in Jan. Positive news.
