  • Belgian journo and Standard fan, Douglas de Coninck, mailed me this:

    OMG. Tucudean joins Charlton?
    Don't expect too much :)
This was the worst incoming transfer ever at Standard de Liège. Trust me, it's a long list...

And before people start, remember Douglas told us that Yoni Buyens will be a great player for us

And with that, I'm off to bed :-(
  • Will reserve judgement on this until I have seen him sufficiently to make a personal judgement.
  • So, while other clubs buy their players from Harrods and the like, we shop at Asda.

Still a step up from bargain basements Aldi and Lidl last August surely :-0
  • Blimey there's a lot of Belgium football journalist with opinions to share
  • Underwhelmed with this one. But, I'll be very pleased to be proved wrong.

  • Not overly whelmed I have to say as he could easily be as useless as Polish Pete was. But that said, more exciting prospect than the last chance Charlie's that we might have got in on loan and has to be an improvement on Church/Piggott so I'll give the guy a fair crack before passing judgement. This is going to be like the season we won League 1 playing "who's he?" At the first couple of games.
  • With yet another striker signed the pecking order for Sponge Foot is looking grim ...... Vetokele, Tucudean, Reza, Polish Pete, Piggott, My Nan, The Romanian With No Legs On CH5 Last Night, Stevie Wonder & Then SF Church!!!!
  • Take away the whole standard liege thing and go back to this time last year if we had signed a 23 year old target man from the Romanian league winners with 7 goals in 22 and only played for the Romanian under 21's a year ago I think Charlton life would of reacted a whole lot different.

I havnt really heard of him but from YouTube he looks exactly what we need and I'm quite hopeful he'll be good for us.

Make you right, I think we got Danny Green from a poor corner shop.
  • His youtube stuff looks promising but in January I was so happy to have signed Polish Pete, so going to wait before doing a happy dance around the office in my pants. (they might actually call the police this time)
  • Don't like him already he thinks he can celebrate with the fans like jacko!

  • From the video he looks good. Bit of pace, looks strong, scored a few good goals and likes a little trick. Ok they are all in lower leagues but let's give the guy a chance. He's young so fits the criteria and does look like a kermorgant type player to me (if only it were true :-) ) .

Welcome to the club. You will certainly be given time and a chance to prove yourself to me before any writing off. Same with all our signings. Come on you reds
  • Like all the other signings no nothing about him just gonna wait and see what happens when season starts.
  • Got a feeling we could be screaming for a church recall once we've seen this guy play a few times
  • I don't know how accurate the values on that transfermarket website are, but he's another one valued at about £1.3m. If accurate, most of the signings are a huge step up and we should be excited.
Equally, the site could be a load of rubbish....
  • Gut instinct and some aprehension that that will be all, feels like we need another proven striker, keeper, winger dont take ur foot off the throttle yet RD
  • Read earlier that someone said they were bored of us signing Network players...

Hate to say yet signing these network players could end up being a stroke of genius (or of course could be a total disaster)... Mick McCarthy (Ipswich) came out today saying any deals would be Frees or Loanees whilst if we wanted to sign and English player from even the Lower Leagues it would cost us money because of his nationality, it would limit our spending on FFP and it would be a risk on whether he can make the step up or even if he was signed from a fellow Championship the worry would be whether he could fit into our system.

The way we're going about things though is that we're using our European Wide Scouting Network... We're taking the risk bringing someone in who may not adapt etc... (But is that any different to taking on someone like Izale McLeod from League Two), said player is also either going to be free as it'll be a simple transfer from one of RD's existing clubs OR they'll be a damn site cheaper because overseas players always are
  • He was brought to Standard when they had a Romanian coach, Mircea Rednic. Rednic transferred some Romanian players to Standard but non of them succeeded. Tucudean was one of them. Did not make an impression on the Belgian fields, did only play a match or ten i think.

Not gonna happen Raz. Proven players cost money. Real money and not I.o.u's between friends ;-/

Didn't we spend real money on Vetekole?
