  • Nice to get a central target man.

Don't see him as the 20+ goal scorer but more someone to hold up play to bring other attackers/advanced midfielders in.

Welcome all the same and another body is good for the squad depth.

Personally think the signings have been positive and arguably a positive on what we have let go.
  • Whenever I read "I'll reserve judgement until I see him play" - it really does come across as "I've judged him, but I don't want to say it explicitly"

    :)
  • well I like the look of him from the OS pic.

Don't know him, but as he comes from Eastern Europe I reckon he will have good technique which most players from there do.
If he is there to lay off balls to Igor and chips in with the odd goal he could be a very good signing.

Didn't he also win the golden ball award at the recent World Cup?

It is stupid to pre judge anybody, in Football and in other forms of life.

I pre-judged my first wife-to-be and got that wrong!
  • Wikipedia does not give too much away apart from the fact that he did not bang one in for leige. The club he got loaned to, he scored 7 in 22, which is certainly a positive goalscoring record for a supposed second striker.

Fraid George is the one on the left... We tried signing the other bloke in the picture but he was too worried about doing it on a cold night in Rotherham

Also @Greenie Junior‌ you need to calm down, no need to be rude about outside fans giving us a view on a player, we welcome it whether you like it or not.

Yep it was me, perfectly calm, thanks for your concern.

But you know what, the bloke has signed, the ink is not dry and already we have an opinion on here that he is not very good. A third party opinion, and as if to reinforce the opinion he says that the same bloke said Buyens is good, I saw Buyens have a run on saturday he looks OK but it was a preseason 45, poles apart from a competitive Champ game. So based on the welling game I don't know yet.

RE, George, no one on this board has seen him play, yet already he's getting negative comments (how ridiculous is that), and this is what happens when someone posts a 3rd party opinion, George may have been going through a bad patch, all strikers do when Pas Belgian saw him. George has to only miss a couple of chances when he plays for us and thats his lot. But because of negative comments from the off, he doesn't stand a chance. David Mooney anyone?

I had a text last night from a mate (non Charlton) who said 'that George bloke, I understand he's pony'.
We have a mutual friend who posts on here, who read it on this very thread and told him!!!!!

My point is, as far as I am aware no ones seen him play, so how do you know if he's any good?
Are you going to take someone else's word for it or form your own balanced opinion.

And we wonder why some players done want to join us.
To be fair the opinion that he wasn't very good was from someone who HAS seen him play. Doesn't mean he's right but he has seen him play.

You're right that there is no point and no need to dismiss him (or by the same token hail him as the new Mendonca) until he actually played but I do remember someone on CL having a less than positive reaction to the news that TBH might sign. Can't remember his name, Something Jnr I think. ; - )
  • In terms of the standard of team / league he has come from, they lost 2-0 to a very strong Barcelona side in pre season back in 2012 (we would do well to match that) and he would appear to be their main man. So on paper alone, there is no reason why he can't be at least as good as someone like Chris O Grady, Darius Henderson and other championship target men.
  • What to be made of all of this? Just so hard to know when we have so little to go on in terms of his track record in a remotely comparable league.

We can but get behind him and hope for the best - he can't be any worse than Pawel Abbott.
  • I reckon signing this guy will be worth an additional 5-10 goals this season to Reza and Vetokele (depending who is partnering him upfront).

Nice try but your argument doesn't stand up.. I've seen TBH play and that's what my opinion is based on. Will still give him a fair crack in a cafc shirt.
  • 22 out of the 39 goals he has scored were in the Romanian third division with UTA Arad . Big step up to ask him to score goals in The Championship.

Including 0 from 11 appearances for SL.

  • We have enough time in the window that if Peeters sees that he's not good enough in training/friendlies, he can move back into the transfer market for another striker.

This is the benefit of doing our business this early.

He made only 1 start for SL. A whopping 224 minutes played in total.

He had quality players playing ahead of him - Batshuayi and Ezekiel played 34 and 33 games respectively during that season (12/13).

It's a bit harsh to judge him on his time in Belgium.

EDIT - Just seen Oggy's post. Exactly right.

  • We needed a lump and we appear to have got a lump. If he can pitch in with at least 7 goals this season and bring the fast, tricky players into the game in the final third then he'll be a great signing. Bringing the best out of the players around him is what a good target man does so we'll have to see if he meets those criteria. Still, we never replaced Yann at all, let alone in quality so it's a move in the right direction

In Jan I stuck up for RD saying that his transfer policy looked on the face of it "a good one" - it obviously wasn't

    * Thuram was a highly rated 'nearly' french international - NO HE WAS A SHIT LIEGE CASTOFF
    * Reza a nippy finisher - SEE ABOVE - 1 IN 17 WAS IT? MAYBE HE'LL COME GOOD HE LOOKED OK AT WC
    * AA a highly rated youngster/not realised potential - THE ONLY (60MIN) SUCCESS
    * PP the new (700k!!!!) kerm - LOL
    * Nego - LOOKS OK/NIGHTMARISH ONE MINUTE TO THE NEXT

Now this window seems rather similar in principle.....

*Buyens - LOOKS OK - BETTER THAN POYET? HMMM
*Vetekole - £2.4M - BIG BUY, GOD I HOPE HE IS THE NEXT DARREN BENT
    *TBH - LIEGE CASTOFF
    *George Tucudean - LIEGE CASTOFF
*Bikey - LOOKS OK - BETTER THAN DERVITE? HMMM
    *Moussa - LOOKS GOOD
*Icelandic Geez - AGAIN LOOKS GOOD BUT WE SAID THAT ABOUT PP/AA/REZA BLAH BLAH BLAH

I don't think it's worth getting too excited just yet

I'm not 100% convinced Roland has got to grips with the quality of the championship, the signings may have cost more but on the face of it look rather similar to january. We shall see how it all fits together

Blimey, what side of the bed did you get out from this morning!
  • Not much time now for GT and the other new signings to get to know the rest of the squad and come together as a team that can handle the Championship. A big task for the manager (sorry, "coach") unproven himself in the role in this country, with a squad of players largely new to each other; many of the players, despite mixed success elsewhere, having little or no experience in this league. It's anyones guess how we will start the season. A strong possibility we will have some nightmare results early on but that doesn't mean that Peeters won't sort it out. But expect be a bumpy ride for all concerned! COYR's
