Sorry to read that Istabraq has passed away at the age of 32. Gave pleasure to a lot of people especially those that backed him over the course of his highly successful career. He was retired to the home of JP McMcanus where I'm sure he was thoroughly and rightly spoilt.

Sad loss but at 32 had a long life. I remember that John Durkan bought the horse out of the Gosdens yard, where he worked, and was diagnosed with leukaemia before he could train him himself. Sadly he passed away soon after. RIP

One of, if not the greatest ever hurdler - magnificent horse. I was very lucky to see him win all of his three Champion Hurdles live (as well as the Sun Alliance in 1997). I also know for a fact that he was treated like the King he was at Martinstown and JP and the whole McManus family absolutely adored him.
I’m not into racing apart from the annual punt on the Grand National. On our last day in Crete last week, an Irish chap arrived in the room next door. We got chatting until another guy came to shake his hand. Turns out it was GN winning jockey Daryl Jacob. Clearly a celebrity in the racing world. Very friendly chap. Was telling me that it’s his last season in NH racing after a 24 year career and will have a final run at the GN in 2025. Big personality so I expect he will have a good career in presenting when he hangs up his colours.

He ended up splashing out over £12m on Day 1 of the sales which was 28% of the total spend it would be very interesting to know where (Who) he gets his money from it will end in tears. !!
John Wade, one of the most prominent owners in the north, has passed away. It was only last week that his trainers, friends and family arranged a day for him and his wife at Downpatrick where they ended up with two winners. RIP
I appreciate that the argument will be that the British don't have the young horses to compete but it's a bit embarrassing when there is a novice chase at Cheltenham on Friday with a first prize of £20,812 and money going down to 6th place with only 5 runners, of which all bar one are under the care of Irish trainers. All of those runners have different trainers and not one of them is with Mullins!!!

I always looked at his horses in their familiar maroon colours especially before he gave up training them himself. Had some nice touches.
What an absolute farce! Exeter had a Novice Chase on their card today for which they were offering the following prizemoney:
1st:£21,784 2nd:£10,036 3rd:£5,016 4th:£2,512
Now we hear trainers constantly moaning about the lack of opportunities for their young chasers. The race attracted the grand total of three runners. Two were pulled out after the start of racing so Captain Teague, trained by Paul Nicholls, walked over the line for connections to pick up almost £40,000. The going is described as "good".

Fucking disgrace
Totally agree. This is not about dangerous ground because Nicholls wouldn't have run Capatain Teague if it were. Even more so when one considers that Skelton took out Deafening Silence (and others in more races) but ran Etalon in the chase of the day, the Haldon Gold Cup.
This is all about having optimum conditions for their horses and not over-facing their best horses by keeping them apart until Christmas or even Cheltenham. But should we have some bad weather then the likes of Skelton and Henderson will be screaming at the BHA to put more novice chases on. It's also feeding bookmakers' argument for not having such races on at all as there isn't enough "meat on the bone" for them so punters and those that just enjoy racing for racing's sake will be denied that opportunity.
