  • public opinion in Sheffield, including a 150,000 petition against his re-signing, will make sure that he does not play for the Blades again .. he may well play elsewhere after a cooling off/dust settling period

this .. but now, only if his appeal brings a 'not guilty' verdict or the order for a new trial will he get another job in football
  • Don't see why not.

Not a quote: "The Club condemns rape and violence of any kind against women in the strongest possible terms But will only declare it if the public backlash forces it to part company with its prized asset." Is what I make of that. They've tested the water and it's mighty choppy.
  • Great news

    About time.

They used the word "women". The should have said against any person. Not just women.

But another quote that intreuged me was "Some of their supporters will be disappointed by the decision" So that just shows how devided their fans are over this matter.

Thinking about it Ched Evans is pretty much the first professional footballer in top 4 divisons of English football to be 'convicted' of 'rape' and as it's such a unique case thats whats deviding opinion so much. Whether it he's served his time he deserved his old job back or it's so serious being a footballer is so previledged he's abused he should be banned for life. It's once of those topics that will be discussed for years as it was the first case of its kind.
Get spell check (or an education)
Oh balls, I put through spell check on word, corrected it, highlighted it but forgot to press ctrl+c and repasted the original. Sorry about that.

  • The clubs have made a mess of the situation really, either they should have not allowed him back in the first place OR they should have stuck to their guns and said that while they condemn what he did, everyone deserves a chance of rehabilitation.

Exactly. Nothing they say on the matter from now on can be taken seriously.

Now it is the Professional Footballers Associations turn.

  • Well, he's just destroyed the official statement
  • What a weird statement to make. Surely after sending Mr Evans on his way, the only course of action for Sheff U was to draw a line under the whole affair and decline any further comment.

And what kind of 'Chairman' conducts a national press conference in a bloody anorak? Looks a bit like the kind of man you might find lurking in a bush somewhere.
  • Just as an aside.

I thought the term 'nonce' related to child molester sex offenders.

I think it refers to anyone 'not on normal courtyard exercise'. Or something along those lines.

In the prison I work in, all sex offenders are referred to as 'nonces' by the non sex offenders, not just those who've committed heinous acts against children.
  • Correct Answer AUN a nonce is someone who is a sex offender not just a peado
  • If at all possible he's just made Sheffield United even more ridiculous than they were at the start of this whole sorry saga. You almost have to applaud him for his sheer lunacy.

Just seen the chairmans interview on sky sports news. Regardless of anyone's feelings as to whether Evans should be allowed to resume his career or not, the interview proves, as stated above, that the official statement from Sheffield United was complete rubbish!

    So in summary

I wanted to sign evans he is a goalscorer, I don't give a shit he is a nonce piece of shit I just want goals

You bastards who have morales and some form of dignity have kicked up such a stink I can't get away with it

I had to say what I said on the tinternet as you lot wouldn't let it go

    1) it's power to those with morals and the Internet - nice one!
    2) tough to run a club when you're doing your best but a large element of the core support think you're under achieving... In this case the board were split on the path forwards...politics and sport not easy
    3) would love to hear Clough views at the appropriate time

  • That Chairman. What an utter freak.
  • Textbook PR own goal. Obviously an intelligent man but the statement is bonkers. Any credit the club has got for its recent decision is lost and calling opposition to its original decision 'mob like' contrasts with his evident concern for Evans.
  • And what kind of 'Chairman' conducts a national press conference in a bloody anorak? Looks a bit like the kind of man you might find lurking in a bush somewhere.

Exactly what struck me....like he'd travelled to the interview on the bus. I bet under the desk he had a packed lunch in a crinkly Tescos bag.

The whole thing has been a total disaster for the club now....they've really f***** it up. Serves them right.

  • He needs to rebuild himself with a PR campaign. What is Max doing these days?
  • More signatories have joined the campaign to try to stop former Lib Dem star Nick Clegg from representing Sheffield ever again.
“He has shown no remorse even though he’s obviously guilty “ said one angry local “he knew what he was doing when he got into bed with a complete stranger “
One supporter disagreed saying “He’s served his full term I don’t see the problem “
However most agreed that he should never be allowed near a ballot box again “It’sa disgrace –he’s supposed to be a role model” said local footballer Ched Evans
  • Hold on.Everyone knows that politics does not reflect real life!
  • Hartlepool's manager Ronnie Moore has just revealed that he wants to sign Ched Evans

The desperate will scrape the barrel. I wonder how Jeff Stelling feels about it?
  • I want my £1 back...ashamed at you, Ronnie Moore.

He probably bet it on hartlepools next match
