  • Yeah I have all these thoughts about how other results can conspire to help us but then I remember we're rubbish and even if we had to chase 50 in the World Cup final, we'd be all out for 45.
  • W I 182 all out mainly thanks to their skipper, Holder, who, coming in at 10 hit 57 (64).

  • If India beat Ireland & Zimbabwe (& WI which is looking highly likely) while England beat Bangladesh & Afghanistan, it'll be an India vs England quarter final at the MCG.

It's bizarre that as well as India are playing, I'd fancy our chances against them simply because of the results we got in the tri-series. I suspect they'll be far far better in a World Cup quarter final though.

It's not impossible that the quarter final line-up somehow fits NZ, AUS and RSA into the other half of the draw. If it happens, I'll be ecstatic. We couldn't hope for a better draw than that.

Callum, I'd love to have your positive outlook on life.

Yes it is a one off game but India, in my book, would be 1/5 shots. And that also makes the assumption that we beat both Bangladesh and Afghanistan and I certainly wouldn't be backing us to do that.
It might be out of England's hands anyway as rumour has it that there is potentially bad weather around and one point is as good as a loss in our position.

    India 63-3 after 15 overs

Still got another 120 to score.
  • 107-5, 22.5 overs
  • 107-5 now. Makes it interesting.
  • Great stuff.
Beats the flat tracks mediocre bowlers games.
  • Funny how when Warne commentates for Sky here he tends not to say anything too controversial about England.

And yet, commentating in Australia, he says things like, in a somewhat ironic voice, about the forthcoming match against Bangladesh, "nobody wants to see England lose, do they?" followed by "we could see the rest of the world against England in that match".

Once an Aussie always an Aussie. Except when the English are paying that is.
  • 134-6, 29.3 overs
  • Marlon Samuels catches Jadeja at the third attempt in the deep.

134-6 and 49 runs still required.

  • India won by 4 wickets with just under 11 overs to spare thanks to Dhoni 45* (56)
  • Just saw the highlights. The way Gayle ran out Samuels was a disgrace.

Samuels very nearly got all the way there and back, whilst Gayle just stood his ground. Very Boycott like.

Yep, India now are a totally different proposition to India a month ago. Plus they'll have 95 per cent of the crowd too.
  • So Ireland vs Zimbabwe, SA vs Pakistan.
Think SA will blow out Pakistan not sure about Ireland vs Zimbabwe.
  • Pakistan scored just 222 all out. In reply S A are 51-1 off 7 overs with De Kock gone for a duck. Amla has 32 of them, all in boundaries!

With just 27 runs in five W C matches, De Kock really is the weak link - and the one that is meant to be giving them the balance. Providing he is fit enough, I can still see A B V taking the gloves because he and Duminy have ended up bowling with combined figures of 9-0-77-1 which, out of 222, rather confirms where their achilles heal is.

Ireland, meantime, against Zimbabwe, are 223-3 off 40 with Ed Joyce getting a ton.
  • 67-2 Du Plessis caught behind.
If Pak could get another wicket and then ABDV quickly then could have a chance
  • And as soon as i type it Amla is caught behind ! 67-3
  • Here comes ABDV !
  • Rossouw gone. 74-4.
  • Ireland going well - 319-6 off 47.5

  • Miller out LBW. 77-5 with Duminy now joining ABV and only the tail to come!

I have the privilege of having seen JP Duminy's first class debut for Western Province in 2002 at Newlands.
  • And now he's out !
    102-6
  • Duminy out. 102-6. All down to ABV now.
  • Steyn on his way now. 138-7.
  • 147-7 off 27 85 needed off 20 overs.

I wonder what the SA price is ? Might be a good bet.

The low score games always provide the most entertainment.
  • Abbott out. 172-8. ABV 56* - time for him to tee off before he runs out of partners.
  • He's teeing off and in total control by the look of him. Only 37now required and he's getting a couple boundaries each over
  • ABV out for 77. S A need 33 with just the one wicket in hand.
  • Having posted that, he's out! game on now.
