So harsh... they played well and deserved to go to the Final, didnt rate Japan in the slightest, sadly though only thing that matters in Football is the score and so we go and face our biggest rivals for 3rd place
Refereeing has really let down the whole tournament. Had an amazing excellent view of the England one and it was a shocking dive, so much so I couldn't bring myself to cheer its award, but it seems like the players are taking things into their own hands to try and even up the terrible decisions.
That seemed like a very English way to get knocked out of a tournament. Great performance, the Japanese are the favourites and they looked weak up until that last ball in. Houghton was colossal, clattered into everything. Best CB performance I've seen in a long time.
I thought England was much the better side and Japan never looked like scoring from open play. Not surprised at the way and time we lost because we are England be it women or men.
Let’s be honest, England started the tournament looking like they were below the better teams. But they grew into the tournament and got knocked out as more than an equal to the world champions. It shows you that ultimately you can’t beat the footballing gods and it was they who beat the girls rather than a Japan side we made to look below ordinary. Foul for their penalty was outside the box, but to be fair to the officials you needed slow motion replays to see it. Our penalty would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch so it was a penalty. Credit to officials for spotting it. Can’t blame Bassett for own goal – it wasn’t an error and there was probably only a ball sized gap the ball could have gone in to be a goal. The girls deserve a hero’s welcome on their return. People who can’t do anything other than criticise women’s football should say nothing if they can’t say anything positive and hopefully this will inspire more girls to take up he game so it won’t be too long before we bring home that world cup. Well done to the Lionesses!
I have really enjoyed watching England progress and improve game on game. Gutted by the way they went out but as others have said it is up there with the very best of England's heroic football failures. (I haven't got over Germany's flukey goal in the Semi-final in 1990 yet!). We were the better team and the women in the team should be proud of themselves.
As has been said - a classic England defeat whether men or women. I have now seen England play three major semi finals in my life time, on every occasion we have been the better team and on every occasion we have lost. I remember the one lucky result we had in a major tournament, against Spain in '96. Is it ever going to be our turn again?
Better team lost. Japan are hugely over-rated on that showing. Surely USA will stuff them in the final. Well done England, not the time for critical analysis and we were truly unlucky to lose that. Scott, Basset and Houghton were the three best players for me.
Didn't deserve to lose - and certainly not like that. Basset had a great tournament but that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. Quality of football not always the greatest but great entertainment (certainly much better than mens U21's!). Be nice if it encourages more girls to take up football, but the trouble is with it being on so late not many young girls would have watched.

Chin up girls, you done us all proud!
A magnificent effort.
Anyway - well done the ladies, you did us proud!
