Cruz and Texas governor Greg Abbott as well as Donald Trump are due to speak at the upcoming NRA Conference in Houston, so much for showing respect to the victims. The young man who committed this awful atrocity was able, quite legally, at just 18 years old to visit a Texas store on 2 occasions to buy a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition by simply passing a cursory background check, and he wouldn't even had needed to do that had he bought the gun at a gun show. If that isn't a definition of utter madness i don't know what is.
Just saw a Facebook post shared by my cousin who lives in Canada. Huge list of schools where there's been a shooting. Looked up a full list on Wikipedia, there are two articles with too many to count, one for 21st century, one 20th and earlier.
They tend to have several every month. Last month without one was July 2021.
Horrendous. And yet so many Americas wouldn't even entertain the idea of just restricting the type of guns that can be easily purchased.
Just seen on the news that the husband of one of the teachers who was killed, suffered a cardiac arrest and died today when visiting her memorial. They leave behind 4 children.
Saw a few clips on the news earlier. Some woman still spouting the "it's not guns that kill people.. its people who kill people".
Immediately thought of the Monty Python sketch where John Cleese is the army officer training his men how to disarm someone with a piece of fruit. Michael Palin runs at him with a banana & John Cleese pulls our a revolver & shoots him dead.
I'm sorry to say that Americans deserve politicians like him.
Clearly the interviewer is scoring political points here. And Cruz is not speaking enough for the families involved in this terrible tragedy.
It is factually incorrect to say that schoolchildren are ONLY ever murdered by gunmen in America. Fulani Herdsmen anyone?Torching whole schools and kidnapping and raping (and "converting") 500 school girls. Bombing Ukraine playschools anyone?
I won't even open the can of worms that is killing the unborn. The most vulnerable of all humans.
Perhaps barbaric computer games are not the SINGLE contributing factor to school shootings. But they clearly are not GOOD for anyone. So let us withdraw them. And movies of this type too.
And let us look at the factors that may lead to someone having such warped perception of reality that may lead to this tragedy. It is the responsibility of all of us to create a world where young people have a purpose, goal and values that are life-giving not life-destroying.
I can't imagine what these families are going through. It is a grief of a magnitude that is beyond thinking. I pray and hope that political point scoring takes a back seat and everyone really focuses on what makes life worth living for young people in this age. The gun licensing debate needs discussion for sure. As does mental health and a disintegrated society which no longer has family values and faith and the faith community to give our children the very best start and support.

Religion has killed far more people than video games and movies.
So there is an annual meeting of the NRA this weekend, being held in Houston (in Texas where there is an open carry gun rule). Trump is a guest speaker.
Guess what? Guns are banned.
You couldn't make it up. They won't push to ban guns anywhere else, but they will at their own meetings. This doesn't appear to be a new thing either, they ban them at most of their meetings. Quite ironic if guns are so safe.
Surely they could just hold the meeting at a venue where there is just one door, and have a couple of security guards sat there.......
Bette Midler is on a tweeting rampage this morning. The amount of money these politicians receive from the NRA Shows how hopeless the situation is. So Screwed up.

Are you referring to the children who are being kidnapped and converted in the name of religion?
And you bang on about family values when the largest religion in this country only exists because someone wanted to get a divorce.

Can this really be the same nation that put a man on the moon ?
By no measure is the USA the safest. It ranks 122 out of 163 on the global peace index, and has an intentional homicide rate of 5.3 per 100,000 compared to say the UK at 1.2 (UN Office on Drugs and Crime, 2017 figures). And there's A LOT of religious fundamentalism shit in the USA, a symptom of weak-mindedness and an inability to think for oneself.
Even if Americans stick to their right to own guns, why FFS,do they need Kalashnikovs,Assault rifles. For protection a simple pistol would do,for hunting etc. a single shot rifle, but weapons that fire 30 rounds a second, what possible justification is there for owning one.

They like them. That's it. They have nothing else. (Again, Jim Jeffries nails it here)
