Basically says what we were all thinking at the time!!
He explained: “There were some problems going on with Charlton, with the gaffer also, and I just received a phonecall saying Bolton wanted me on loan and I had to go and talk to them.
“But I said there was no point, without being disrespectful, because I know I’m not fit. Why would I go on loan if that was the case?
He also says that Guy Luzon had a strange relationship with him (and I guess other players) ... Sounds to fit with what @Skywalker said a long time ago that, at first, Luzon's motivation rubs off on everyone yet given time, the players seem to see through it
With Rotherham coming up tomorrow, where last year He was repeatedly kicked by both CB up at the New York stadium and his Nightmare was about to start.
How fitting if Igor could score and stay fit for his sake and ours.
He also states that after the first few months teams worked him out. Yes, you'd expect other professional outfits to do their homework and they would have noticed signs of weakness - like a boxing opponent watching past fights or turning up to sparring. So they give him a battering. However, the 'professional' outfit that Charlton are keep playing him even when it becomes clear there's a big issue. These are the sort of revelations that reinforce what we've known since SCP left. We are a joke of a club.
"“We tried without surgery but it didn’t solve things. We did six or seven weeks of just doing exercises but when that made no difference I had another scan and found out my cartilage was ruptured."
Let's hope he's fully fit again now. Agree that him and Makienok is potentially a pairing that can bring the best out of both of them - hopefully starting tomorrow at Rotherham
"“We tried without surgery but it didn’t solve things. We did six or seven weeks of just doing exercises but when that made no difference I had another scan and found out my cartilage was ruptured."
No one thought to do a scan a bit sooner?
Kashi / Bauer appear to be the same... I refuse to blame Erol here as we never seem to have had an issue with him in the past but its almost like the below
Erol: Kashi has got a bad injury, we need to send him for a scan to find out whats wrong KM: That sounds awfully expensive, just tell him to walk it off for a few weeks Erol: (6-weeks later)... Okay he's tried that, and can barely walk now KM: Why didnt we send him for a scan then...? - Oh darn, I've broken a fingernail, I need you to come look at it pronto!!
nice to hear what I believe is some honesty. Hope it gets back in the goals. please.
what I find a joke is that after spending 2 million or whatever it was on a player they then treat him like they did. screwing up his treatment by playing him then not getting a proper assessment done for 7 weeks to find out what the problem was. then trying to loan him out to relegation rival, Bolton. I despair at this bunch who run this club.

Any normal club that doesn't try doing everything on the cheap would but this is Charlton owned by a im not interested prick we are talking about.
I try to stay rational about what is happening at our club, but when I read this I get very angry. Let us not forget that at the beginning of the season when a patently overweight and unfit Igor was played, we were told that there was a 'disagreement' among our medical and fitness staff about whether he was fit.
We are often reminded, rightly, that we are not professionals in the field, and we don't know what is going on behind the scenes. However the state of Igor was obvious to everyone watching at the Valley from 5 years old upwards. How in the name of all that's holy could there have been any "disagreement"?
Here is what I suspect overall: On the P&L spreadsheet, KM is ordered to "bear down on costs" by x %. All costs get reduced by that amount. Including fitness and medical staff. I have no proof of this, but let me put this to you. Who in our club would make the case for exempting the medical and fitness budget from the overall cost cutting? Who would have both the expertise and the clout to tell Roland this will be a false economy?
I suspect that benchmarking with other clubs would show that we are picking up more than our fair share of injuries either in training or in the first half of games. And I believe the stats will show our overall fitness levels are below par. Look at Tony Watt. He is way fitter after returning from Cardiff. Is anyone going to tell me my eyes deceive me on that? Look at the Kashi and Bauer injuries. When did they happen, how, what was the initial diagnosis, was it correct, if not why not? We did get some explanation in the case of Kashi, and it did seem to me to smack of not initially getting it right. I accept this can happen anywhere, but it is not just Kashi, is it?
Actually Richard Murray would have the expertise at least, to point this out to Roland, because has been here before in the time of Scott Parker's two month lay off after a "minor" pre -season injury. It was the culmination of a string of injuries which puzzled the fans. RM may disagree with this, but I recall the disquiet on the subject from fans built over a season, and the Parker injury finally seemed to bring the Board to the conclusion that something wasn't right, and there was a wholesale overhaul of the backroom staff. I am not saying there is evidence for the same thing now, it could be that simply we are not spending enough on the right people, including external specialists early in the process.
When is Lookman going to be fit? Do we know? No, we don't. 17 years old, pulls up in the first half, out for an indeterminate period. Don't tell me that is standard in a club with this level of revenue (matching that of many leading clubs in Continental Europe).
You may detect that this is my first day back on the espresso (and tonight the beer) :-)
Roland will have forced him to play through, and Erol probably would have advised against it.. it all stems down to money and sales. Roland doesn't want to pay wages to an injured player..
There is clearly an issue with the way our injuries are treated and diagnosed. In the 25 years or so I've been a regular I can never recall so many groin/muscle injuries that drag on for so long.
One of the first things Riga said on returning was the poor fitness of the players. Was this down to training, or was the pre season training regime inadequate?
Wasted a lot of time and energy on here defending him last year. How people couldn't see that he was injured I'll never know.
Disgrace that he was being wheeled out week after week. Very lucky that whoever was pushing him out on the pitch didn't finish his career.
A fully fit and firing Igor is one of the best strikers in the Championship. Whether he'll ever get that back who knows? If he does he'll no doubt be moved on for a small profit.
IMO the one to blame is RD. Playing with one up front, that was his fault because there wasn't anyone else besides Vetokele. BP wanted a second striker (Delort) and got backstabbed by KM. I just read on a forum of St-Truiden (STVV) that what is happening now with Charlton is a exactly what he did before with them.

How did St. Truiden manage to get promoted last season... Did they win a poor league or did Roland finally back them?
Its something thats been puzzling me since last year!!
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that Igor was played when he was unfit; I can understand being disgusted, but surprised?
This is the club who played Jordan Cousins despite the fact he'd been ill in the week leading up the match. End result? An unconscious Jordan Cousins in the dressing room at half time, after he fainted and had to get medical attention.
The club doesn't give a single shit about the fans, but it seems to give less of a shit about the health and wellbeing of the players.

He played half a season carrying a injury when at most club's they would have not let him kick a ball for months, and we was constantly playing him!
His talent can not be doubted, a injury free and fully fit Igor Vetokele is a asset to ANY championship team.

To a relegation rival.
Weird

We also saw the old Igor that match as well, it was him closing down Steele that forced the Goalkeeper into a horrible / rushed clearance.
I wouldnt mind seeing him alongside Makienok
