Season Tickets Sold (22/04/16)

  • That means that between the first calculations 6 days ago and the new workings this evening 677 more season tickets have been sold, surely not?
  • Very Buddhist.

Put the animal out of its misery and it will be reborn according to its appropriate level. (Note that actually killing it by hand may not be acceptable but this is a topic of great debate, at least in my head)

We had a home game on Saturday during this time so some may have renewed then. There is also margin for error in either sets of figures published but it can all be looked up on the ticket site, happy to stand corrected if so.

It's highly implausible (actually inconceivable) that 677 have been sold since the end of last week. The difference is about methodology. I have a detailed breakdown of the stadium somewhere, but I'll repeat my warning that 1) the online system does not give a complete overview and 2) many seats that appear to have been allocated (sold) will be reserved or comps, especially in the lower west.

As far as the seats sold via the credit supplier is concerned it makes no difference to the club's revenue, as Charlton get the money up front, although usually a few "sold" seats will be released because people subsequently fail the credit check.
  • @AFKABartram, not me but I've taken a personal vow of silence on it because the issue is so devisive and I think everyone has a different set of personal circumstances.

For instance, I will contribute to the protest fund and so on, I will not renew, I will wear my badges and black and white scarf.

I will certainly buy a limited number of tickets for games next year and I will, while there have a couple of pints in the ground and if I havent had time to sort out food for the boy, a hot dog.

    Splitter :)
  • Oh and I'll be wearing the black and white scarf I bought while watching New Zealand in the rugby World Cup.

  • Still can't believe how many of you have fronted up your money for them

I agree AFKA, I expected renewals but not at the levels these figures suggest, although as Airman points out a lot could be reserved for comps etc. It seems some people are easily pleased.

I have to admit West Lower block B did seem very high indeed. To be specific it had 231 'in use' compared to 59 for block A, 195 in block C and 174 in block D and even had a complete row or two sold out...

I did a similar exercise to the above for the Reading game and it was good for spotting the rate of sale but significantly overstated the official attendance (never mind the real one).

  • These renewals look shockingly poor though.

Despite the repeat of last year's threats there is a massive drop off.

I think the result so far should be applauded but I also think there will be a lot more renewals before the 'final' deadline.

I reckon around 6-7k by the end.

The free and nationals seem to have already Ben included so not too many more of them. The difference will be real money in.

    Missed It said:

Whoever said that Charlton would become unsustainable by Christmas 2016 looks about right. When a third of all season tickets are only paying £7 a game there has to be massive injections of Duchatelet's cash to keep the club running.

As has been said elsewhere, the financial year end is June 30th. The drop in cashflow will be enormous when compared to last year's accounts, especially as the summer is when no regular income comes in
I don't know how the club treat income but for accounting purposes I'd have thought most businesses would defer receipt until the accounting year to which it related. Do football clubs do that? If so, the accounts for the year ended June 2016 would include the season ticket receipts from last year, not this.
  • How many of those 4,000 seats will be filled each game ? At least a 1/4 missing for Saturday games and up to half for mid week games. Add in smaller League one away crowds. There will be sub 7,000 crowds at the Valley next season under Duchatelet and Meire. The mid week games on a cold winter night even less. Duchatelet and Meire are running a disastrous policy for the club.
  • Accrington on Tuesday night at home in mid December - imagine the crowd inside the ground for that?

    Uboat said:

"Our ground's too big for us!" will be the chant of the season....

Although there won't be many there to chant it. Having said that, if there is a migration from the upper north to lower north it might actually improve the atmosphere, unless the singers end up split between the two tiers, in which case it will be dire.
I don't get this point about improved atmosphere. I am no sound expert but as the roof is a long way from the lower north isn't a lot of the sound going to be lost as in an open end, whereas in the upper north it may be kept in.

There was a game a few years ago when there was a power cut or something in the north upper which meant a couple of blocks got moved to the lower.
I was in the East stand and from then the noise levels from the North definitely got louder.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you and I and others also continue to hand over cash to the regime that took our club to Selhurst and Upton Park when a lot of charlton fans boycotted the move ? What's different ? There wouldn't be a charlton athletic today if we hadn't continued to support the team

Whatever else we think his faults are, even Roland hasn't done something as bad as abandoning the Valley and making us play at a rivals ground

    yet

though I guess if there are just a few fans still supporting the team then we shouldn't dismiss that being part of the ultimate game plan

You going to Leeds tomorrow then or do you only have a little pop at those fans who don't do the local games (Brentford and QPR seem to ring a bell)? :open_mouth: .

Back on thread and Airman and others will confirm this or otherwise but we couldn't get a safety certificate at the Valley and Hulyer had taken us to the brink of being wound up and folding completely so Selhurst was a sink or swim alternative. And yes I continued to follow them there and to Upton Park. Others decided not to partly because of the horrendous journey across South London in those days round the South Circular. We had no alternative!

This is a completely different kettle of fish IMO and as there are other interested owners out there I say get riid of RD and everything he stands for ASAP. If that means boycotting to hurt him in the pocket and anything else that makes the club unmanageable for him, then let's do it as one.
  • I wouldn't worry 3500 of them will be tottenham fans fed up with watching the shit football at whiteheart lane, and converting to charlton via taxi cab drivers word of mouth!

    ITS HAPPENING!!!
  • Unfortunately, what's on the pitch is likely to reflect what's in the stands, low crowds, low quality inadequate players. As, I don,t think our current squad would do much better than top half leauge one, then what's next seasons going to look like. I have not re-newd and won,t be.

No I won't be going to Leeds tomorrow. In a show of solidarity with the charlton players I too will be metaphorically on the beach alongside them and if my cynical view of whether a team of most likely soon to be ex charlton players will turn up for tomorrow's game is proved to be completely wrong then I will applaud them and feel pleased for those diehards that did go to the game

Double standards there surely, still I guessed as much.

    Ridiculous comparison.

At Selhurst and Upton Park we were supporting a club with a team spirit (from top to bottom) and a will to win and succeed. Not some f***ed up experiment by a Belgian megalomaniac
    .
We were supporting a club that was on its last legs. The team with 6 (?) new players bought in gaining promotion was the only thing it had going for it, that and the four or five thousand fans that didn't give up on it.
