I haven't read the commentary - I've only watched the footage, and heard it briefly whilst I was in bed typing some emails with the breakfast show on this morning.
Regardless of what anyone says - it is strange to think that footage was taken in SE London. It's not racist to say that it was like the unloading of an aid convoy to somewhere far more needy and desperate - as one poster inferred.
It also is pretty weird to see a grown adult man standing next to a huge stack of boxes containing bottles of water - making sure no one touches them - and seeing others cram boxes in to their little trolleys.
Is there a slant in the media? Well the linked article was from the Daily Mail, but the Independent, the Metro and the Mirror are all running it to name but 3. Is this a serious news topic when there's corruption, poverty and so much more going on? Not really, but does it have to be newsworthy to be discussed? That would make for a pretty boring world.
At the end of the day - even if they had permission (and I'm not sure sure given the quotes) - it's pretty damn sad to see the amount of greed shown over simple plastic bottles of water. It's not a nice mentality at all.
And as for racism charges, what a crock of shite. If the majority were council estate white chavs instead of being predominantly black, the same video and headline would have been shown.

Re. Recycling water bottles. Those bottles are going to exist, in some form or other, for a few hundred years. Maybe more. And kill a lot of wildlife (that's guaranteed once they break down to tiny plastic pellets). The idea that giving the bottles to some people on the street to drink is some sort of environmentally friendly thing to do is ludicrous, and utterly arrogant on mankind's part. That just delays their journey to the centre of the Atlantic for a day or two.
Doesn't matter what race or creed you are, those bottles are going to doom us all in the exact same way.

They definitely do get thrown away, we normally just chuck them on back of trucks or bin lorries, then taken down recycling. Your right though, they should be given too charities, schools or even local park football teams, what a waste.

what is more galling, in my opinion, is Elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritea etc taking a couple of sips from a bottle and then throwing it away. Meanwhile their countrymen are desperate for water and dying through the lack of it. It's criminal.
