  • Sri Lanka beat Australia to win the series . Should Pakistan win the series they will become number one country in test match cricket
  • Cook out 66! 126-1
  • Twist! Good - the game needed it. Now to see what the middle order are really made of
  • Well it's not easy but I reckon if anyone can start tomorrow as if they had 0 and it was their first ball it's Cook. (Risks kiss of death)

    Hmmm

    Right now, it's...

    ENG 30.8%
    Draw 37.3%
    PAK 31.9%

    ENG 32.6%
    Draw 40.5%
    PAK 26.9%
Odds, according to the market, are nearer:

    England 41.0%
    Draw 50.3%
    Pakistan 8.7%
That 10.5-11.0 available on Betfair last night is looking rather big now. Nothing like a bit of "aftertiming"!

    Sri Lanka or Pakistan?

Spare a thought for Fernando. He was picked for this Test to make his debut. He opened the bowling in Australia's first innings and removed Warner in his first over. He didn't get a wicket in his second over, was taken off and didn't bowl again in the match.
  • 151-2 currently.

    Root c Hafeez b Yasir 62

    221-3

    118 lead
  • Ballance c Shafiq b Yasir 28

    282-5
  • 367-5. Quality batting from Ali and Bairstow.
  • When should we declare? Overnight? After an hour? Lunchtime? Later still..?

I reckon Cook won't want to bowl more than 60 overs, so he'll aim to bat one more full session.

I'd bat for another half hour, or a bit longer, to allow Bairstow the opportunity of getting a ton.

I can't believe Pakistan could get the 311 now off 90 overs, so there's little point continuing much longer.

If we only scored 20 off 6 overs, they'd need 331 off I think 81 or 82 overs, which is more than 4 an over.

I think Moeen will be close to it by then too...

I doubt Moeen can score 40 in 30 mins.
  • Great day at Edgbaston - aside from coach breaking down and not getting home til 2am !
Bairstow and Moeen batted beautifully in the evening to take Pakistan out of the game.
Only concern is the brainless dismissals - just when you think the likes of Hales,Root,Vince and Ballance have got going then they get out to mindless shots - all of them absolutely rubbish shots that could have put England in trouble.
However, if you havnt been to Edgbaston on a Test Match Saturday , then as a cricket fan, make it one of your must-dos - the noise and banter and fancy-dress - it is more like a football crowd without the aggression- like no other cricket ground that ive been to on the planet.
  • I think we will bat for half hour...another 30 runs or so. Basically bat them out of the game...so we cant lose. We will then only get one new ball, so will need to make the most of it.

  • bat 4 overs max this morning, let Jonny get his hundred, and then let us have 84 overs to knock them over which means we night have 4 crucial overs with new ball at end of day.
  • 20 off the first over...

26 in 20 minutes extrapolates to 39 in 30, so I suppose your clear-headed analysis has won the day yet again

Lets see what inroads we can make this morning - get 2/3 wickets and Pakistan will be shitting themselves- and probably fold-especially if we can get Misbah early.

Moeen didn't get a ton, so my doubting he would was correct. I accept that he got closer than I envisaged.
