Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of full-back Adam Chicksen on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal in SE7 and becomes Manager Russell Slade’s tenth signing of the summer.

After joining his hometown club Milton Keynes Dons at the age of 14, he made his senior bow for the Buckinghamshire club just two years later.

Chicksen is comfortable playing both at left-back and right-back and he went on to make 78 league appearances for the Dons – and also had a short loan stint with Leyton Orient – before signing a three-year deal at Brighton & Hove Albion in 2013.

Having missed the first half of the 2013/14 season with an ankle injury, he made his Albion debut that December and went on to feature in the Championship’s end-of-season play-offs.

The following campaign, he joined Gillingham - and then Fleetwood Town - on loan. While with the Cod Army, Chicksen helped them to a 10th placed finish in their first ever season in League One.

He rejoined Leyton Orient on loan last year, playing six times, before returning to Albion, where he featured in their 3-2 win against the Addicks at AMEX Stadium.

Chicksen then returned to another of his former loan sides, Gillingham, where he went on to play six matches for the play-off-chasing Gills.

Chicksen will take our number three shirt and could go straight into the squad for tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy fixture against Southampton U23s at The Valley.
