I think Robinson could be a decent shout, I mean if they keep sacking managers they will find a decent one eventually even if they don't know what they are looking for. What concerns me is what Curbs said, we never really go out and find the right manager for us, just who's available and out of work. Chris Wilder was the one they actually wanted and he could see it wasn't right and turned us down. Anyone out of work will put up with the nonsense, knowing if it goes to shit, nice payout and no real damage to reputation because it's Charlton and everyone knows managers don't stand a chance here.
He seems to be the managerial equivalent of Paul Dickov or Robbie Savage.
You would hate them as a player but love them a YOUR player
Hopefully that's how things go for Robinson anyway
I actually think tonight is a real turning point for our club. A promising manager (hopefully) and a result that says to the rest of League 1 "Charlton aren't messing about anymore"
It's time people feared us again
I don't know a single MKD fan that likes him. Granted I only know 3, but still
I spoke to a friend of mine who is a Liverpool fan but has attended a lot of MKD games over the years due to living nearby. He said Robinson was great initially but thought he stayed too long, it was almost like Robinson grew tired of the club and didn't seem to have the same drive and enthusiasm as he did in the beginning.
Probably right. That's what I thought. But so what, that's normal isn't it ?
Most people would be less enthused after doing the same job for donkey's years.
A fresh challenge is needed. Blimey even the great Curbishley had had enough in the end.
Give the guy a chance everyone, as WIWALB said, he's not even joined yet.
Unless we got someone like Warnock or Allardyce who would be extremely likely to succeed, most others will be a gamble and I don't see those two rocking up anytime soon.
Oh and as to his comments that we were only heading in one direction, he was quite right. We were relegated with MK.
The worry for me is that if he did say that "the protests need to stop on Saturdays" it would indicate he hasn't a clue what he is walking into or he has already throw his lot in completely with the board.
The Charlton manager's role is an all but impossible one at the moment. He could have said almost anything - general comments about challenges and looking forward to them etc - but that he seems to have chosen to go down this route does make me question his judgement.
A bigger worry is whether he is good enough. His track record is with one club at our current level but, as we know from Curbishley, success at one club does not always mean you can succeed anywhere. He is young and clearly has a lot to learn. I am concerned whether he has the experience and tact to keep the board and the fans happy, especially if things don't go his way. Time will tell.
After a short spell away from management, which was augmented by work as a television pundit, Curbishley returned to management in December 2006, when he was appointed as manager of West Ham United.[15] After looking certain for relegation, Curbishley led West Ham to seven wins out of their last nine games, beating Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal, Middlesbrough and a 1–0 win at Manchester United on the last day of the season, to keep West Ham in the Premier League

Yep, sounds pretty normal to me. If they do give it to Robinson, I'm not too worried, there are so many other worse candidates out there. Whatever he has said in the past is irrelevant IMO, what he says and does going forward is far more important.

One of the two games Curbishley didn't win during that nine-game spell was us beating them. We went down and they stayed up.
@Swisdom I also feel I am watching an upturn in performances on the pitch (Swindon apart) and really feel that the division is there for the taking, its at that stage we part views though I am afraid.
Karl Robinson isnt the problem, Russell Slade wasnt the problem, the club is terminally sick to its very core and nothing, and I mean nothing other than a change of ownership/SMT will sort that out, promotion or not.
On that cheery note, up the addicks!
Russell slades negative tactics was very much part of the problem playing wise
@Greenie Junior Don't get me wrong, I am not a Slade fan and hated his negative tactics,
perhaps I worded it wrong but suffice to say I think there are far more pressing issues that are deep rooted in our club than the manager, and that's from someone who does go and is very interested in watching a game of football.
Whoever comes in will be undermined from Belgium, no corner has been turned, no fresh start has been made, its just a different man wearing the same hat.

If he is taking the job I just hope he doesn't read Internet forums because some of the comments on here are just ridiculous. The bloke hasn't even walked in the door yet and he's being massacred. Typical Charlton.

Were you saying we should give Karel Fraeye a chance? We are considering a one club manager whose last side sits way below us in the table. What attributes does he have to take us forward? He signed Spongefoot ffs!
Trouble is some on here only seem happy if they are complaining all the time.Pretty sad really.Live and let live
I am a complainer! I complain becuase there is very little to be positive about.
I don't do it for the sake of it. I dont do it becuase I enjoy it. I don't do it to intentionally piss others off on this forum and I get no sense of satisfaction from it.
I think I speak on behalf of many 'complainers' who do it because they are just so fed up, tired, angry, sad, bitter, frustrated, exhausted and simply heartbroken at the position the club finds itself in nowadays.
At any other time, I personally wouldn't mind giving Robinson a go as manager. However, under this regime, knowing everything that has and is going on at the club, I re-iterate my point. ANY manager willing to take the job on at the current time is doing it for the wrong reason! I cannot support a manager that believes they can manage under this regime and more importantly, WANTS to manage under this regime.
I am still boycotting games because I believe that the only way RD will be forced to sell is when he simply cannot continue to operate. No fans generate no match day income. No merchandise income. No sponsorhip income. Only when there is nothing, or very little coming into the club, we he realise that it's time to go.
All the while there is a level of income that can be relied upon, he will rely on it, no matter how small it is.
We have two wins on the bounce and of course, like any Charlton fan i am pleased. But it doesn't change anything. These results just give RD and KM the big thumbs up they need to carry on as they are, and I simply cannot support that, no matter who arrives to pick up their pay cheque as 'manager'.
Lets not forget.......CO'L is now on the scene.....I think Robinson's days are numbered before they've even began!

Of course I wasn't saying give Fraeye a chance . That's a ridiculous comparison. Robinson is an experienced football league manager not a clown who only managed Belgian pub sides also why is being a one club manager a bad thing ? .We had a decent one club manager 10 or so years ago as I recall.
As for Simon Church , Chris Powell also signed him too done forget.

But at the same time, people against Robinson want Nugent to get the job after 2 good results. As previously mentioned, Fraeye had a good start but that didn't make him a good manager did it?
What attributes does Nugent have to take us forward? What did Russell Slade have? Where do you draw the line?

How was Slade significantly undermined?
Ok, that wasn't the squad he would have hoped for, but that applies to most managers. Conte probably didn't want to sign David Luiz, but needed a CB and he didn't get his first choices. More relevantly I bet Parky at Bolton privately wasn't 100% happy with his squad, ditto Alexander at Scunthorpe etc
Slade has had it far easier than his predecessors, virtually all the signings coming in are either his players or ones that "we" would have though of as reasonable signings. There are no Thurams or Naby Sarrs. The majority of teams in this league would love to have the likes of Rudd, Bauer, Pearce, Lookman, Holmes, Ajose, Magennis etc The last 2 results suggest that our midfield resources are perhaps better than we all thought (and that's without Holmes)
There are massive problems at our club, but the current 1st team squad is probably one of the lesser ones at the moment.
He's met RD, he was there last night. Why hasn't he been announced yet?
I wonder if he's demanded assurances like Wilder but has yet to receive them? Or is he stringing it out so he doesn't have to be in charge v Sheffield Utd and he can have his first game against his old MK side in the cup?

The smt are probably having doubts because we scored 5 last night and are trying to talk nugent into taking the job for half if robinsons salary
@killerandflash not claiming to be 'in the know' but lets just see what the coming weeks revelations from every ex manager uncluding Slade say and I am extremely confident that all will be quite clear.
I believe Slade like all before him was undermined by Driesden and the like suggesting then insisting on on pitch matters.
He seems to be the managerial equivalent of Paul Dickov or Robbie Savage.

So you know...3/4s of the MK Dons fans by my count then.
This thread is so fucking depressing. Some on here Will hate any new manager no matter who he is. Some hate Robinson for the fact he's a Scouser. Some seem to think we should be poaching manager's already in a job. Ffs we are a basket case league one club with a totally divided fanbace.

It would be funny if KR told them he does'nt want it now it has been leaked all over the media
Now if that were to happen I'm not sure I would actually piss myself laughing but it would be very very close run thing and I'd hope not to be on a southeastern train when I found out because everyone's commute could get much worse.

It seems unlikely as Slade's teams have played in a completely different way to Fraeye's, for example. Under Fraeye we had no organisation on the pitch, especially in defence, but were quite attacking, whereas Slade's teams have been very defensive and conservative. Playing Crofts, Jackson and Foley in midfield is pure Slade.
They're not going to announce him till end of the week/Saturday to try and quell the protests, he'll start officially on Monday they don't want his first game to be a protest one, at least that's what I think Pitch PR will be advising.
