  • Very interesting. Confirms I think that he's always been overrated and living off past 'glories' and the rise of a few decent players, Dele Alli being one.

The article at citiblog was after a 3-3 draw at home to Bristol rovers, giving away a 3-1 lead late on. Their next result was 0-3 at home to Southend and Robinson was sacked after that; or left by 'mutual consent', whichever report you prefer.

He joined Charlton a month later. So who at Charlton paid no attention to the detail of his past results, and just thought he was worth a punt for his Englishness? Maybe he gave such a good interview that KM found him irresistible.
  • And would be a clear sign of the people that had the shallowest pockets and the shortest arms getting ownership of the club

If the aussies are successful then don’t get too excited as they did not have anywhere near the amounts needed to drive the club forward

Unless they have found a new investor or the Greek is back onboard

    Both doubtable to me

I'm not overly bothered about them having billions to spend. I just want owners who want to run a football club properly.
It seems to be getting harder to have one without the other these days...Especially if the desire is to sustain success.

Players and their agents hold power over the Clubs now, so sadly big money talks.
  • I had a rule I learned before I became my own boss. Never slag off your managers, even if they are rubbish. Tell them how great they are. It really helps your career. Can't blame Robbo for doing the same!
  • Robinson to Oxford is hardly “the wow” factor. Sven despite his age and recent history is for a club like Oxford. It will be Sven tomorrow.
  • There is no way Robinson is going to Oxford. Why the hell would they want him, there are plenty of out of work managers as good if not better than him, that wouldn’t cost them a jot in compensation.
We are stuck with him until:
    A) The Club is sold and the new owners bring their own man in.
    B) His contract runs out, I’ve no idea when that is.
    C) He walks, which I assume is unlikely.
In all honesty, after us I reckon his has one more shot at being a manager, probably at a desperate League 2 club, he can still get away with a bit of Dele Ali bullshit and his time with us can be written off as we are a 'failed club'. If he screws that up it's punditry for him, if Sky need a cheery Scouser for Championship games.
  • Just checked on-line this morning @ skybet... Robbo now 1/4 on with Sven 2nd favourite @ 6/1. That's a big gap between first and second favourite and bookies don't normally get it that wrong.

Odds based on money laid. If you put a tenner on Robinson now his odds will drop, especially in such a tiny market.

KR may get the job but odds a poor indicator.
Bookies have experts who's job it is to make sure they don't get stung. So with a horse race they set the odds as they see them, then after that they'll alter the prices as bets are laid.

With the Oxford job they would want to reduce their exposure, so if they've seen anything at all linking Karl to the job, then he'd be well odds on when the book was opened. They wouldn't open a book with all potential Oxford managers on the same price, and then change the odds when the bets came in, that would be madness, because even though it's likely to be a tiny market there's always a perceived risk of a bigger punter coming in and hitting them hard if they have the wrong price. So if it's reported that Sven has been seen at the Kassam stadium, they'd lower his odds massively, bets or no bets.

After that, then the odds would change as bets are laid.
But the fact that it's a small market won't put off pro gamblers who'll pounce it they think their info means they have an edge over the bookies.

When is Robinson out of contract?

He had a 2 1/2 year deal didn't he, and he came in mid season?

    Sven is 70 years old.

Maybe as D of F upstairs, with a hands on team manager or young "head coach".
But surely not on the training ground or in the heat of the dressing room?

PS: Dear Mr Oxford owner, Karl Robinson tells us he is very good coach, experienced and still young.
You know it makes sense

The MK Dons side that he got promoted had the likes of Dele Alli, Benik Afobe and Will Grigg, and also had Lewis Baker on loan too.

Would've been harder to not get them promoted.
  • Not sure Sven would be my first choice but some people have more money than sense!

It says in the OP dated Nov 2016 that he signed a 2&1/2 year deal James, which takes us to May 2019; ie as Large believes, the end of next season.
  • whilst coming across as a nice bloke, the man is out of his depth and the constant excuses are becoming really fucking irritating. if he wants to go let him or let me know his club of choice and well have a whip round and get him a taxi, seasons over all be it possibly snatching a play off place which i think rather wouldn't instead of having to schlep it up to some northern ground to be battered 4/5-0, and then be told well we got playoffs, another season in this league beckons, the only highlight of next season will be a trip to Sunderland - which ill go to Newcastle for the weekend, knowing the fa this will be on a Tuesday between Xmas and new years.

  • If Robinson does go to Oxford, then you can bet that's a nailed on 6 points they will get in our 2 games against them next season.

Plenty of time for Karl to turn it around next season then.

    I'll get me coat.
  • "...when our wingers came inside and tried to get close to Josh to give us that front four..." yadda yadda blah blah
You utter dribbling fucktard THAT'S COS THEY'RE ON THE WRONG SIDES! There are reasons they're in the 3rd division, not being two footed wonder wingers is one of them. They're not gonna ghost past full backs and stand up a great cross off their swinger are they? Could you? Ever? If you can remember playing the game you ridiculous lush.
I've rarely read a better application for dismissal on the grounds of not having the first fucking notion what one is supposed to be doing.
In 4 years of unforeseeable farce, this fat pisshead is giving it his all to be remembered as one of the least competent piss poor excuses for a bad joke. Right up there with roly, squirrel face and Fraeye. His departure cannot come one second too soon. He'll get pelters from me anytime he darkens our doorstep again.

    He's great though isn't he!

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to prove a point, with fans calling out for an English manager just get anyone in the door and when it goes wrong we can say we told you so.

bit like Fatty McCunty claiming that 442 doesn't work after a full half arsed 37 minutes on Saturday.

To be fair to ST it's not a kneejerk reaction, he gives it careful consideration over a 48 hour period  .

Kewell would be an obvious choice if The Aussie deal is going through.

He's got fond memories of the Valley scoring twice in the 6-1 demolition of us by Leeds 15 years ago to ease their relegation worries. Viduka hat trick and Ian Harte the other scorers with Jason Euell getting our consolation.

Crowd over 26k for that match so at least he knows what a near full house would look like  .
    I remember it well.
Blimey - 15 years!? I was halfway up Church Lane when they scored their sixth goal.

  • I'd be happy with Keith Peacock as caretaker for the rest of the season with JJ and Bowyer backing him up. Anyone who is serious about a long term career as a manager wouldn't want the job at present.

We need to restore something back to the club - at least Keith would give us back a little dignity. KR and RD are just killing us...

    Keith Peacock is nearly 73.

He's been a great servant and ambassador for the club.
But his time being involved in the dressing room has passed.

The bookies have Robinson at evens favourite for the Oxford job, miles clear of the next name. However, the Oxford owner told the local press the new manager, to be announced on Tuesday, will have a "wow factor" with the fans - surely that rules out Robinson. Unless it's: "Wow! Can't we do better than him?"

Sounds to me like it won't be Robbo then, but also because the bookies had him at 6/1 on last week, so he's drifting. Sven would have wow factor, and if the owner is as rich as they say, they could afford him.
Also I doubt Robbo would be sounding out the Fleetwood job if knew he was going to Oxford.
Could it be Robbo with Sven in a DOF role ?
Actually, not a bad call. They could let Sven handle the media side for a start.

For a man that has such awful teeth he has certainly shagged some quality crumpet.

Do you think the fact there are thousands of 19 to 25 year old females in the uni city is the reason that Sven fancies the Oxford job ?
