This article, in a nutshell, is the very problem. My immediate reaction was: 'three years on and we're still talking about this'? That's the sorry truth - not because of CARD or the protests: in fact, it is exactly because of them and, in this case, the B20, that douchebag still feels the need to defend himself. After three years of douchebag we're in a much worse situation than we were before (albeit, maybe, he saved the club from sinking, in that a buyer needed to be found). His network doesn't work, his ideas don't work (although I do agree with the minimum revenue idea, but that's nothing new on his part: it's already been proposed in Finland and Switzerland; and it has nothing to do with football).Airman Brown said:

Since the summer the pro-regime faction have hammered this point - that there are only a few key protesters, followed by sheep, and those key protesters have hidden agendas. This latest outburst is probably among the most divisive statements ever made by a club owner.
The remarks carry all the maturity of a 12yr old so there is little surprise there are of course a number of the dyed in the wool anti CARD, anti protest supporters who will embrace the comments.
I suppose at one level it does distract from the abysmal performance against Peterborough but can anyone tell me how the comments expressed in anyway progress the interests of the club?
To argue his comment might lose something in translation misses the point. If you propose to comment in public on issues surrounding a British organisation in a British Industry monitored by British media you had better make sure your comments are not open to misinterpretation.
It is called respecting the local market.
The entire dialogue talks to how narrow his thinking really is. For a supposed man of intellect he evidences precious little. In my experience people ofn intellect exhibit an expansive open mindset wishing to embrace and process all and any information. Indeed it is the joy of using their intellect to bring clarity and solutions to any given problem. Not quite there yet are we Roland?
Is the best response and the best way forward you can really offer to simply insult your critics? Most of us left such antics in the school playground.

Others have commented in detail about the description of expertise of the prevailing coach but I recall this individual being previously described by M Duchatelet as a very good coach. A man whom he had only parted company with on the basis of a difference of opinion on the strategy going forward.
Now apparently he had less knowledge of the clubs' players (most of whom who had played for him for 3yrs) than a group of unconnected, anonymous and likely unqualified scouts.
The comments on player assessment stand no scrutiny at any level.
It again speaks to his inability to differentiate between the nature of expertise between someone who has spent their life in the English game and those who possess little or no understanding of that market. A man of intellect recognises when people are telling him things he wants to hear.
Can there be a more crushing indictment of the man that 3 years later in the face of quite frankly crushing failure he is still desperately trying to defend his actions but only succeeds in digging the hole he has created even deeper?
It appears he simply cannot look failure in the face, acknowledge and adjust. It is akin to those times after Christmas when the Credit Card Bills arrive and you really, really do not want to look and be reminded of how much you have spent.
How can any of this dialogue give any credibility to the assertion they have learned from their mistakes?
If he can make such comments in public we can only guess what goes on behind closed doors.
To those who appear desperate to believe there is a future under this regime I urge them to think again. Without a dramatic U turn the club is truly on the road to oblivion.

He has basically called Powell and fans stupid/dumb. Firstly it proves he doesn't watch us as Riga only played the network player Powell really wanted and Reza who was crap apart from a goal at Leeds! Also he fails to acknowledge that Powell took us up with a record points total, then only missed out on the play offs the next season by three points. Also that the rug was pulled from him in the season Roland took over and players were not being paid - admittedly before he took over! He did not acknowledge the games in hand, nor that he had denied interference that has been proven to have taken place!
I'd love to debate that dishonest lying weak minded fool who is trying to re-write history and blame everybody else for his incompetence. Powell wasn't the world's greatest manager, but he doesn't deserve it. He is a club legend and I am still raging. I couldn't post earlier as AFKA would have had to remove it! The interview with RD was on (Flemish ) national television. It's a weekly talk show, covering different subjects, mainly political. Every week a sports related subject is highlighted, usually by interviewing someone well known. Every evening however, there's another talk show called "de afspraak" (rendezvous). Might I suggest someone (in English shouldn't be a problem) writes a little comment, perhaps even asking for an interview or an invite to either talk show ? They have a habit inviting people with opposing views on a certain matter. You might get lucky to explain your view on the decline of CAFC.

I'm still open-mouthed at how ludicrous this man's basic reasoning is. You can't claim in the same breath that his manager has authority then complain when he's exercised the same.
There's a world of difference between receiving advice and acting on it, and part of that responsibility is to weigh whether its appropriate.
For Powell to determine the network players were neither what was needed nor good enough has been proved correct, not just by history but by the fact the very next boss didn't play them either.
The truth is that Duchatelet couldn't comprehend that Powell, a veteran of hundreds of games right to the highest level, and a title winning manager, might know more than he does about football, specifically the 442 system and the value of his players in a team game that can't be run by stats alone, and certainly not stats without context.
Frankly he should have relied on his champion manager, not a kid playing Championship Manager.22 -

Last season, I was told from someone inside the club that they knew they'd got things wrong and that they would work to put things right. Sadly, for them, Roland doesn't give two figs for anyone but himself.
As I said in July, nothing has changed.
I hope we get the chance to reply!
