  • Feels so much more comfortable today. My office was 34 degrees the last two days and very hard to work in. Hope we don't get those temperatures again this summer.

I dont get this at all

This country is beautiful we have fantastic coast lines amazing countrysides and cities yet the only thing that lets it down except the pond life stabbing crazy pricks in some of it is the weather, you just cant be sure of a decent bit of sunshine

its tough shit that we have to work in it , i have had to put up with a hot office and working outside in the heat that caused us enough issues in how long it took for us to get stuff done

BUT come on its been glorious to see the kids having fun in the pools in peoples gardens the seasides heaving putting money into the economy

    the countryside the same

i want it to be back to 35 degrees id take 40 if we had to for as long as sept or oct abnd i want it every year for 10 to 12 weeks a year

its going to be shitty and cold and miserable soon enough , drove me mad the amount of people saying we could do with rain

no we cant we put up with that for the last 20 yrs of summer

I for 1 hate the sun and heat.

When its cold you can put layers on, cuddle up under a blanket and its great.

In the heat you cant do anything, u can sit naked infront of a fan but its still bloody hot.

Now saying that i have enjoyed holidays to Cyprus and Spain, but whenever I have gone I have been in a private villa with Powerful air con and a massive pool I can jump into whenever I like, over here I cant do that.

But I love the cold and rain over here.
  • @nth london addick If we have prolonged hot spells, kids won't be able to play in pools in gardens as there will be hose pipe bans and the banning of filling pools.

You could always water the garden...

I do - every night as I have a lot of plants in containers.

Then you go to the seaside

It’s going to be 12 weeks Max of summer in the uk open the windows or invest in aircon in the office

I got a decent portable unit for in doors for 300 quid

We put it in living room during day then put it upstairs at night

I hope we hit 40 degrees next week for a month

If the temperature every hit 40c major problems would occur with food distribution, major food distribution and producer would fail, the refrigeration system would fail, air conditioning would fail. Many other infrastructure would fail, no doubt power cuts would occur and transportation system will fail. Please NLA don’t ask for anything above 35c, at that temperature is about the maximum the UK can cope with.

But we're not geared up for this weather NLA .
I should imagine your a decent boss, so if we're hitting 40 for the next month how are you getting round your blokes working out in this weather all day.
We were starting at 7am and finishing at 2pm.

I had two elderly neighbours taken to hospital last week suffering heat exhaustion and dehydration. Old people cannot cope with it.
    Farms are suffering.
A hosepipe ban for the northeast starts shortly.
And i'll have to wear a silly hat.
  • Then people should assist the elderly like we should when it’s cold

Farms are always suffering last year our landlord who was a farmer said her sheep were getting hoof rot in the wet fields and the crops never came good because of flooding

We let our guys wear shorts and have enough drinks and they are happy enough and if we felt they needed to take more breaks put more people on the job we would

If Water boards sorted. Out the leaks thered be no need for a hose pipe ban

Come on where’s your summer buzz

Your all getting to old to enjoy yourselves you’ve been charltonised in life

So if your putting more people on the job it would be costing you more money
  • Have just watched Countryfile which highlighted the severe problems being experienced by farmers due to the heat and lack of rain. If this were to become a regular occurrence the price of food will soar.

Not everyone can afford air conditioning units. The death rate soars in the elderly at the high temperatures you want @nth london addick . The heat in my office made me far less productive.

The thing is it won’t be a regular occurrence it’s a one off summer when have we ever had one like this

I can wish for it but it won’t happen every year I wish for a New York Winter that won’t hapoem either

I am doing my sun dance to bring it back so you Vit D dodgers can suffer

40 degrees plus is a dangerous temperature particularly in a country not used to dealing with such high temperatures. We don’t have the infrastructure or working conditions to cope. As a one off it would be bad news. For a prolonged period people would die.

103 F or 39.4 C are body temperatures where medical assistance should be sought.
  • You Lot worry too much it ain’t going to happen but I really hope it does

It's very good of you to offer to sit with my old mum for the next month.
    I'll pm you her address.
You'll of course also need to sort out her shopping and laundry etc, as she's unable to cope at 40 C.
  • Recent 40 degree temperatures in Japan left 77 dead and 30,000 requiring hospital treatment. I reckon 30 is plenty high enough.

We had a storm on the weekend - lightning strike triggered a forest fire & now its raging out of control 30km away from where we live. Advised there is no 'current' danger to our town but its a bit unnerving to have ash raining down on you!

    Where do you live?

next sat the sun is due to appear again & temperatures up in the 30's again.....just as we come home.

what the feck have I done to upset the gods.

  • Sick of the hot weather and the humidity that accompanies it - the air quality in London is terrible at present. Don't understand the obsession with stifling heat and lack of rainfall.

What make of portable unit did you get NLA? Looks like the heat is set to return by Wednesday so must get some relief for indoors.
