FC Carl Zeiss Jena 2017-2018
FCC gave a fair account of themselves but the step up to the third tier naturally presented a number of challenges. There were no complaints about the result albeit that the game's only goal came on 45+2' from a real sucker punch, a free kick dropping into the 6-yard box and volleyed in unchallenged.
Att 2753 of which around a thousand made the 325km journey from Jena.

Matchday 2
FCC 0-2 Fortuna Köln
Att 5103 (approx 50 made the 400km+ journey from Cologne - they brought with them a keg of Kölsch beer as a gift for FCC with thanks for beating their despised neighbours Viktoria Köln in last season's play-offs).
It's clear that no goals and no points in the first two games shows promotion to 3. Liga has been a significant step up, and above all that mistakes will be more readily punished. Nonetheless, FCC's opponents to date are the only two teams with six points.

Better. Approx 1200 Jenaers out of an extraordinary attendance of 10019. A real old-style GDR ding-dong-do.

Next FCC match home to Chemnitzer FC at 14.00 on Sat 5 Aug.

A break from League action on 12th Aug. FCC travelled across the state to play SC Leinefelde 1912 in a Thuringia Cup game, and eased through to the next round with a comfortable 5-0 win. Att 510 (around 150 Jenaers).
Next match Sun 20th Aug - a trip of over 400km to the north-west away to SC Lotte.

GHF do Jena have a decent striker they can send us? We are desperate.0

They are not in the network. Roland only owns 49% and they politely told him where to shove his network. Results speak for themselves...harveys_gardener said:GHF do Jena have a decent striker they can send us? We are desperate.

FCC are Roland's favourites at the moment and we wouldn't get any priority. In any case, their most talented striker is probably Timmy Thiele and he failed at Burton Albion.

There is a huge delay in building the floodlight in the Ernst-Abbe-Stadium. It seems that they have to play some games in Zwickau. It will also cost 20 % more than expected.

For the local derby in Erfurt there will be a part closure of the Steigerwald Stadium.

Match-day 8
FCC 2-2 SV Meppen - att 4229
For FCC a point salvaged from two goals down - Eismann 57' and 82'
FCC's first goal (see video) was very controversial - they had a player down injured, Meppen had possession and stopped playing but instead of stopping also Eismann took the ball off his opponent's toes, ran forward and scored !! The opportunist Eismann and the ref were duly confronted by the Meppen players but the goal stood.
Next up for FCC - Würzburger Kickers away on 20 Sep

He is always welcome, along with the €26 million he's investing in the stadium re-development.

Do you know the scope of the stadium redevelopment? Will it have a shopping centre, restaurants and a hotel?GlassHalfFull said:

I found this, but I suspect it is well out of date. @MadGerman - can you help us out, please ?
http://stadiumdb.com/news/2015/09/germany_green_light_for_new_jena_stadium
A number of former DDR cities have plans to develop their civic amenities. No scheme is more ambitious than Jena's. Iirc the last costing I saw was €52 million, of which RD's share was 50%. However, that figure may not be for the whole project. As well as a football stadium unhindered by a running track there will be considerable commercialisation of the site.

Interesting piece that, but no specifics of the scheme detailed. I can't believe Duchâtelet will be investing unless he envisages a good return one way or another.
I read somewhere there's been a long delay on delivery of their new floodlights so they'll have to play home games elsewhere for a few months, is that still the case?0 -
Here some fresh news about the stadium.

Shopping centre, restaurants or hotel are not mentioned. I think the focus is on building a stadium.
I will be over the weekend in Thuringia and want to go to the game against Preussen Muenster. Maybe I will be able to get more information.4 -
Many thanks, MG

What's in it for RD then to warrant him investing 26m?MadGerman said:Here some fresh news about the stadium.

He must clearly believe there is a good return to be had. He does not, and cannot, own (the perennial loss-making) FCC itself (49,98 % of the shares). If all other potential stadium stakeholders - EU, federal, state, city, industry, sporting, education - can muster only half the cost of this grandiose project between them, RD can more or less demand his own terms.

Yeah there's obviously something in it for him or he wouldn't be doing it. 26m is a lot though, and the tight fucker can't give KR 1-2m for a striker to get us out of this shit league.0
-
When I visited with @GlassHalfFull I definitely understood that it was to be a build that very much resembled St Truiden, i.e. hotel and restaurant at least. And to be honest it looks both feasible and probably sensible on that site, loads of open unused space, good transport links to the centre, and Jena is a city whose economy is on the up. I would be very surprised indeed if that has gone from the plan, he isn't going to spend €26m just building up a stadium for a lower league club he doesn't even fully own.MadGerman said:Here some fresh news about the stadium.

Why don't you see if you can speak to Andreas Trautmann, their marketing manager and proper Jena fan. Very nice guy with a soft spot for Charlton (mainly thanks to GHF). He will know and I don't think he'd see it as confidential. He told us !

The last I read about it - earlier this year, he is not intending to be the one who spends the money (not much of it, anyway). He wants to contract to the city to do the development on their behalf, whatever they may want. In one of last season's interviews discussed in the relevant CL thread, he stated quite confidently that his empire has the relevant experience, from their work at Stayen.1
