After a seven week break - half of CAFC's - newly-promoted FCC got the new season underway this afternoon with a 1-0 away defeat at SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
FCC gave a fair account of themselves but the step up to the third tier naturally presented a number of challenges. There were no complaints about the result albeit that the game's only goal came on 45+2' from a real sucker punch, a free kick dropping into the 6-yard box and volleyed in unchallenged.
Att 2753 of which around a thousand made the 325km journey from Jena.

Woe indeed ....
FCC 0-2 Fortuna Köln
Att 5103 (approx 50 made the 400km+ journey from Cologne - they brought with them a keg of Kölsch beer as a gift for FCC with thanks for beating their despised neighbours Viktoria Köln in last season's play-offs).
It's clear that no goals and no points in the first two games shows promotion to 3. Liga has been a significant step up, and above all that mistakes will be more readily punished. Nonetheless, FCC's opponents to date are the only two teams with six points.

Next match 2 Aug 19.00 at Hallescher FC. This is one of FCC's nearest away fixtures, and they are expecting to sell out their entire allocation of 1250 tickets.
Hallescher FC 0-2 FCC Thiele 36' Tuma 59'
Better. Approx 1200 Jenaers out of an extraordinary attendance of 10019. A real old-style GDR ding-dong-do.
TV report to follow if/when available.
Next FCC match home to Chemnitzer FC at 14.00 on Sat 5 Aug.

FCC are Roland's favourites at the moment and we wouldn't get any priority. In any case, their most talented striker is probably Timmy Thiele and he failed at Burton Albion.
A 400km+ visit to bottom-placed SC Lotte has finished in a 0-4 shocker for FCC, witnessed by a crowd of 1923, 350 or so from Jena. Oh dear ....

FCC 2-2 SV Meppen - att 4229
For FCC a point salvaged from two goals down - Eismann 57' and 82'
FCC's first goal (see video) was very controversial - they had a player down injured, Meppen had possession and stopped playing but instead of stopping also Eismann took the ball off his opponent's toes, ran forward and scored !! The opportunist Eismann and the ref were duly confronted by the Meppen players but the goal stood.
Next up for FCC - Würzburger Kickers away on 20 Sep

He is always welcome, along with the €26 million he's investing in the stadium re-development.
I found this, but I suspect it is well out of date. @MadGerman - can you help us out, please ?
http://stadiumdb.com/news/2015/09/germany_green_light_for_new_jena_stadium
A number of former DDR cities have plans to develop their civic amenities. No scheme is more ambitious than Jena's. Iirc the last costing I saw was €52 million, of which RD's share was 50%. However, that figure may not be for the whole project. As well as a football stadium unhindered by a running track there will be considerable commercialisation of the site.
I read somewhere there's been a long delay on delivery of their new floodlights so they'll have to play home games elsewhere for a few months, is that still the case?

Shopping centre, restaurants or hotel are not mentioned. I think the focus is on building a stadium.
I will be over the weekend in Thuringia and want to go to the game against Preussen Muenster. Maybe I will be able to get more information.
Many thanks, MG
BiB - regarding the lights, see MG's post of 31 Aug on this thread
He must clearly believe there is a good return to be had. He does not, and cannot, own (the perennial loss-making) FCC itself (49,98 % of the shares). If all other potential stadium stakeholders - EU, federal, state, city, industry, sporting, education - can muster only half the cost of this grandiose project between them, RD can more or less demand his own terms.
Why don't you see if you can speak to Andreas Trautmann, their marketing manager and proper Jena fan. Very nice guy with a soft spot for Charlton (mainly thanks to GHF). He will know and I don't think he'd see it as confidential. He told us !
