Perhaps, after last nights snow and heavy rain, we should take a few moments to think of those fearless runners (like Mrs Hex) who are attempting today's KFL at Minnis Bay.  May the rain cease, the freezing wind stop blowing and the ice on 3 foot deep ditches be thick ;-)
Runners are made of strong stuff. Sadly my golf this morning is cancelled. If the rain eases it might go out for a run

I’m hoping to make my Charlton debut tomorrow.

Words I’ve always wanted to say but approaching 49 I think I’ll have to content myself with its parkrun!

10 miles this morning with another Charlton fella around Bromley, Petts wood, chislehurst. Not many out, think I saw four other punters. Bit icy but more than runnable tho we took it steady. Ears and fingers felt like they were gonna fall off at the end.

Lovely to see @AFKABartram at a fresh and chilly Charlton parkrun - managed my best time for a few months so there's something in it being -2C with frozen ground!

Very nice run around a frosty Charlton Park for a friends 100th, was beautiful with the sun coming over the park and was nice supporting the cafe on a non-Matchday. And always good to see @InspectorSands

Official time was 14 seconds slower than my actual running time, which was a bit frustrating but hey ho. I’ll definitely return there again later in the year.

Just Battersea again today but now haven’t missed one since my summer holiday which I find astounding based on how lazy I am…

Woke up this morning with a hazy memory of returning home from the pub last night and entering the Brighton Marathon, just checked and I did.
Training starts tomorrow for Liverpool Half on 23rd March and B'ton marathon 2 weeks later on the 6th April.
My last marathon run was Brighton 10 years ago !

Where is Lordship Rec? Great name!

The winner at Charlton was under 17 mins and went past me on my 2nd lap as if I was walking

The closest I've ever been to a marathon is eating one, one for the kids

  • Decided to take part in "Run The Month" raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK to motivate myself back to fitness.
Like many, I climbed aboard the 5K bandwagon back in 2020 & managed to sustain regular running until the summer of 2023 (among various factors, my daughter turned 6 months old and suddenly my energy levels and spare time seemed to dramatically diminish!).
PB of 22:24 but was generally doing sub 24mins for 5K.
I'm now back to square one (around the 27min mark) hoping this will kickstart back to previous best form.
If you can, please pop some pennies in the pot here:

I ran the Porto Marathon the Sunday before last. Quite a fun way to see the city but ended up being quite a tough morning. Assume the marathon was set in November to avoid the heat but ended up being 24 degrees which was too hot for me, very cobbly streets and despite not having loads of elevation gain, there were a few uphill sections that were killer on tired legs. The heat seemed to catch a few out as I've never seen so many walking the end of a marathon. I just about managed to dig in and finish without stopping to walk and kept my time under 4 hours which I'm happy with. Looking forward to keeping the fitness levels topped up and see what I can do going forward, eyeing up Edinburgh now
just signed up to this for 2025, hopefully not as hot and will have to prepare for the cobbles!

Enjoy! It's a really beautiful city and a great place to relax after the event. Hopefully they've reverted back to the original route for 2025 (it had been changed due to some building work) so you get to run along the iconic bridge and across both sides of the river.

Chilly one beside a Suffolk beach this morning but another least bad time of the year yay 👍🏻
  • I ran East Grinstead parkrun this week. I, and the other 47 rather muddy souls, were joined by one Dame Kelly Holmes.
She somehow managed to glide across the surface whilst us mere mortals were slipping and slidding all over the place.  If you enjoy a proper cross country then this is the one for you.
Another really friendly parkrun, with very encouraging marshals.
There was tea, coffee, cake and biscuits layed on after at East Grinstead Town football club, a short walk from the finish.

East Grinstead is coming up soon for me I think, was there really only 48 runners?

^Yes, and it's the muddiest run I've ever done. There's a trench you go through twice that was like deep soup when I did it. I had to walk. One that's a good "experience" if not fun.
