T shirt and shorts, leggings underneath in the winter (even if the shorts are unnecessary over the leggings, the sight of without is a hate crime I'm unwilling to inflict on other runners), maybe a hat and gloves if it's really cold. I remember one run in Edinburgh where my app gave me a "sub zero race" award. No wonder my lungs hurt!
Summer: shorts and T shirt plus baseball cap (CAFC). Winter: base layers, shorts, 6 or 7 tops (1 or 2 long sleeved), gloves and wooly hat (CAFC). Gotta keep warm somehow.
That's a lot of layers for a 5k ! Do you stop any take one off every few hundred yards ?

Nope ! I have never felt too warm when I run. Mrs Hex thinks what you are probably thinking !!!
Going to watch a football match in Winter the most I’d wear is a shirt, jumper and coat. The thought of running or doing any physical exercise with 7 or 8 layers on is indescribable!
Most I’d be able to run in is a top and a lightweight hi vis rain jacket
Saw a fellow Charlton fan wearing this years home kit running the Yorkshire Marathon yesterday. Gave him a big "Up the Charlton" shout and a poor high five as I ran past him.
Hope he's not feeling too sore today because I certainly am.

Just how poor was the high five if it injured you both? Did you kick him?

Any tips on a running jacket ? Had this in my basket for a week and keep meaning to check out. Usually i just take a thin dri fit jumper and chuck it by the path after being out for 5 mins. Gloves are essential though in the depths.
When I was marathon training in the winter months, I kept it simple. Single long sleeved base layer on top with a thin windproof, water repelling running gilet over the top. Plain colour daytime, reflective colour after dark. Then running tights. You might feel the cold within the first half a mile but by the time you hit that 1st mile marker, you'll be warm.
Gloves, I used to find I'd have them on for the first couple of miles then pocket them after that. Hats, used to drive me bonkers when the sweat used to ice up on any hat and them start melting almost immediately. Switched to a nike running 'hood' which was bloody brilliant. On the really cold sub-zero days, could keep my mouth covered. I had a black one, along with hi-vis yellow for after dark. Yes, you end up looking a bit 'Dangerous Bryan' but it was so easy to regulate your temperature, with the added bonus it helps to keep ear buds in if you run with them in.

I never feel too warm and don't sweat ... until 5 minutes after I finish when it errupts from my skin. Mrs Hex thinks I'm mad but then what does she know !

I've tried most brands and prices of running jacket over the years and concluded that it's largely pointless, for me, trying to stay dry.
Even on the coldest days after 15 minutes I'm sweating up like I've just ran the Grand National and I'm as damp as if I'd gone out in the rain and not bothered with the ridiculously expensive, waterproof Gore jacket. I just wear a reasonably cheap and cheerful one now that'll take the edge off the wind off it's blowing a hoolie and I can chuck in the wash with the rest of my kit.
Two layers, even in the coldest months, is my absolute max, I can live without a hat but gloves are a must.
If we're talking running kit btw, what do folk do re:a head torch or anything? Mine needs replacing so I'm in the market. Anyone use these chest torches?
Bloody hell @JohnBoyUK I want to run not rob a bank!
No advise from me @shine166 I'm wearing basic Decathlon/ Sports Direct stuff a quarter that price. Probably why it doesn’t keep me dry :-)
I got some evils from the locals when I ran through Tower Hamlets, Victoria Park and Hackey/Bethnal Green when I was running in my lunch hours in the winter months... I made sure I never covered my mouth with the lower bit then.
For those in easy reach of London who find running alone a drag - a RunThrough London season pass is £300 and gets you into their regular 5k and 10k races that are usually held on Wednesday nights, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings, with a few half-marathons thrown in too. They usually charge £25 each so if you do more than one a month, it's good value. There are usually some freebie snacks at the end too.
The venues include Hyde Park, Regents Park, Greenwich Park, Clapham Common, Battersea Park, the Olympic Park, Victoria Park and Wimbledon Common.

@Bournemouth Addick Our Club requires us to wear high viz and use either head torch and/or chest ones. I use an adjustable led head torch with lights front and back, but plenty using the chest ones too. Some even have flashing lights on their shoes, but I try and distance myself from them 😉 Are you after brand recommendations?
I wasn't sure you were back running at the moment, but the fact that you posted on here might suggest otherwise and I hope if that's the case and that you're enjoying it. 👍

I've never really stopped and managed to build a little bit of fitness back recently...until my back went out again 10 days ago 😬
Just seems to take me so much longer to regain any progress made these days (I've had some tests and the best the doc can come up with is I've got something post viral going on).
I'm currently using an entry level Petzl headlight, which has been very good in fairness, but I don't think will last another winter and is a little on the heavy side. I'm seeing more runners with chest lights these days but I'm not really sure what the advantage is tbh?

Neither am I. The only criticism I have of my head torch is that it's a bit heavy. Maybe that's it, but as it's no problem adjusting the angle of the headlight as required, I'm happy to stick with it for now.
Sorry to hear you have a back problem. That's my Achilles heel too, well it's not, but you know what I mean. If I get that trouble, I take it as sign I might need to refresh my footwear, which I have to do more often than most due to uneven wear over pronating on one side. I do buy specially moulded insoles, but at some at expense. 🙄
I know what you mean about taking a while to make progress. I've been building back slowly and steadily since April and am only just feeling I'm not far off where I want to be, which is not where I was 2/3 years ago, but I have to accept that level is probably gone for good now.
Well the run of saying ‘beautiful morning’ comes to an end…
Looking at the radar we may be lucky at Shorne while SE London has some heavy stuff lined up. There's a nice breeze as well !
Huge anti climax for me. Was looking forward to running my 200th at M. H'bro where I ran my first, only to find half the course underwater 😟 Didn't check FB last night Doh! Could have got to Corby for 9.15, but it's a largely cross country course, not tempting to set an official guaranteed all time PW and I wanted my car park refund at S'burys, so went shopping and did a PR equivalent in desperation back home in Desborough instead.
Tough going this morning. Mentally tiring week and felt weak running. Was on exact same pace as last Saturday after 2 miles but then run the last 1.1 miles nearly 40 secs slower. Last slope was a real drag.
Hate running in a baseball cap and rain jacket too!
Got a much better time than last few weeks by about a minute. Light rain, drizzle really, so not bad to run in even if a bit slippery in places. Usual t shirt and shorts sufficed, even if I looked like a vacuum packed ham by the end of it. I'm away next week so will miss the 500th Chelmsford parkrun (probably for the best, I hate it when it's busy)
My forecast was drizzle at 8, dry at 9, rain from 10 so I ventured out. It held off until I put my key in my bike lock over the road from the park run then started to piss it down. Not huge rain, just irritating, keep needing hood up or hood down, all the corners absolutely treacherous.
About 3-mins slower than last week but mostly due to tip-toeing around the corners….

A national one for all their events, which includes some marathons, is £400. https://www.runthrough.co.uk/runthrough-season-passes/

Lesson learned. Check FB first. There's always next week, weather permitting 😉
Edit. For anyone interested, the Market Harborough course is by the river Welland, the level of which was rather high, making the route a no go today.
