Based on players seen only (and much as it hurts to leave Knotty and Deadly Derek out):
Gooch Cook Gower G Chappell S Waugh Botham Gilchrist Warne Lillee McGrath Thompson
So why did you? Knott far better keeper than Gilchrist and with that batting you don't need his runs. Plus you have 4 top quicks plus useful seam back up from Waugh, Gooch and Chappell so rather unbalanced. Drop a quickie for Deadly. Or did you just not want to be too similar to me? ;-)
Okay maybe too many all rounders but fun to watch and you could play with the batting order. Vaughan as captain would take care of egos, 8 England Captains in one dressing room.

As if! I went for Gilchrist because, as much as Knotty was the better keeper, it was the Aussie who was the explosive batsman who changed/reinforced the course of so many Tests. Having also decided to omit Deadly (effectively turning the ball away from the right hander a la Warne and concerned that he would on a lot of pitches just be there to hold one end up), it was logical that we wouldn't lose much in the keeping department as Gilchrist kept to Warne throughout his career - which Knotty didn't.
I wonder how effective Deadly would be in modern conditions. A lot of his wickets were taken on damp, uncovered pitches, while his relentless line and length (and medium pace) would be less of a challenge to modern day batsmen, used to smacking length balls in white ball cricket

Deadly was a very effective one day bowler too.
I'm confident he'd be an effective bowler today. His unrelenting accuracy would expose deficiencies in the techniques of those seeking to get after him.
Stevens is not so much quicker than Deadly was and he does ok.
Seeing I’m a bit on the round side, you could have a tubby combined England/Australia Test 11
Taylor Boon Cowdrey Gatting Lehmann Samit Botham (in his later years only and I’m scratching a bit here) Warne Hughes Gough (possibly a bit harsh) Ormond
Anybody think of a wicky, they tend to be on the slighter side, at the moment I’m sticking the pads on Boon. Another team that could hammer a few beers

Rodney Marsh was a real lump in his early days, up to 1977 ish.

Thanks @Riviera, I’ll drop Jimmy Ormond and slot in Marsh above Warne

The late Colin Millburn would walk into that team.
A quick joint 11 from those I've seen play 1st Class;
1. Mark Taylor 2. Alistair Cook 3. Greg Chappell 4. Alan Border 5. Steve Waugh 6. Ian Botham 7. Ian Healy 8. Fred Titmus 9. Derek Underwood 10. Terry Alderman 11. Graham Mackenzie (not sure if I saw Bob Willis actually play...if I did, I'd pick him!)
Is Finn being injured such a bad thing? ( obviously it is for him)
To me, Finn has been lacking in zip for years, he's not the player he was
His height could have been an asset on decent (i.e. bouncy) Aussie pitches. Really depends who is fit/selected to play alongside Anderson/Broad. A fit, firing Wood is our best option.
Not going to poop the Surrey thread party, but Curran T is a fairly mundane fast-medium seamer who can bat a bit. Aussies won't be quaking. But then, I guess, who was there? I might have thrown a surprise and gone with Jack Leach, but if it's a quick bowler...Plunkett? I don't know. I mean, I could get on my Worcs high-horse again and point out our own young quick who took a bagful last season. There's not much top talent around in batting or bowling ffs
