    Great news.  Lovely fella.

Players at Ebbsfleet were all positive when talking about him and I know he was helping the Academy players a lot.

    Welcome home Sols!

I was hoping there might be a player / coaching role available for Bonne.
Im sure he still has unfinished business.
He’d make a lousy set piece coach, every free kick will be hitting the wall.

  • Peter Gill who was a coach with the Under 21’s recently left to join Gillingham as first team coach so maybe Solly taking over that role.

One of my best memories of Chris, was when he and a few of the squad visited the Care Home in Bexleyheath where my Nan was one Christmas

There is even a clip of him sitting and talking to her, so no wonder he got out of the club at the first opportunity, poor bloke got broken - Was even funnier, when the club interviewed him there, and my Nan just obliviously wandered into shot in the background lol!
  • Great addition. If one of our defenders had the heart and desire to chase down a forward, winger etc, like Solly used to, we'd have sat through a lot more than 5 clean sheets last season.
Welcome back to a proper legend.

Rich has now edited his tweet. Says Academy, so will be working more with the U21's and U18's.
Maybe even a younger age group so that he's working with kids smaller than him.

Sorry Chris you cannot have it both ways.

You wanted out, when you left us in the brown stuff when we needed you most in 2021.

Now you need a job, you want to rejoin.

    Have you no shame?

In my book you have burnt your bridges, so F**K
    Off and coach someone else.

    Move on you Dickie.

The idea that we most needed Chris Solly in 2021 of all years is absolutely hilarious. How badly scarred were you by Chris Gunter?!

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce that club legend Chris Solly will return to Sparrows Lane as a Professional Development Phase Coach.

The 33-year-old, who joined the academy as a player more than 20 years ago and played 313 games for the first-team, will assist U21s Lead Coach Chris Lock.

Still one of my favourite players, and player chants. Good to have a proper Charlton lad back home.

    Ridiculous.

Sols is a legend and gave everything when he was here. Do not let the last month without knowing his story and reasoning cloud what he did and achieved with us.

He’s a fantastic addition and role model for the academy and should be wishing him well knowing the qualities he and Pearce can bring to the young men looking to make it in the game, with us and without.

I have to agree with dickie, he made himself unavailable despite being under contract.

why are solly, Parker, kerm, Taylor etc all treated differently despite all being c***s about their situation??

He refused to play as it would have triggered a year’s extension (that he wanted in the contract)

now if people agree with him doing it or not he falls into the same category as the rest

Believe it was an extension on his current wages when he’d been promised an upgrade at the start of the season? So we sacked him off and bought Polish Pete instead. That went well.

Promised or not, the contract he signed was a game away from being renewed.

like I said it doesn’t matter if we agree with it or not, he was included on my post because they’re all remembered differently despite all refusing to play

With good reason because there were significant differences.

Sorry - but “legend” is waaaaay too much.

We were always promised we’d hear “his side of the story”, has that ever actually happened?

Taylor’s betrayal hurt us more on the field, but Solly was our captain and morally it was really shocking. I would love to hear the other side.

Welcome back to him from me. I hope his insights, having come through our academy, help all our youngsters get a better go at becoming full time professional footballers. A full circle moment and I'm sure Steve Avory is pleased to have him back in the building.

Welcome back Chris Solly. I really don't know his personal circumstances why it ended so badly but I think he can be a real asset to our academy boys.
Agree, I would like to hear his story and then move on.

I get to hear many stories through my son about contracts from 1st year scholars to seasoned professionals and the complexities are hard to work out.
Can't say names for obvious reasons but two lads from the same independent academy get taken on by premier teams. Both turned 18 earlier this year. One gets a contract worth 400k a year while the other gets a one year contract on 40k a year. Basically the lad on the less money still has to prove himself and it appears that his agent, parents and himself believe it may be best to get the superior coaching at the Premier club for another year rather than dropping down and getting more money down the pyramid at this stage. The lad on the bigger wages still has to prove himself but I believe there were many suitors which helps.

Still don't think fans realize the difference in contracts and how despite the Bosman ruling it's still a real battle between players and their employer. Again I'm not talking about the star players who have many choices.
  • The fact of the matter was he refused to be involved when he could of been useful for his own personal benefit, its the same situation as Taylor. I understand why they did it but don't agree with it.

I think we all know why Solly gets an easier time than Taylor even though they both refused to play whilst under contract. "one of our boys" club.
