    There are people on the committee who have been around and involved with organising these events for decades so they very much know what they are doing setting prices at that level and they must be confident of it being supported by the usual band of company owners who can put it through their company books and a few rich supporters taking tables.

    Time will tell.

    With the game, the museum event on the 5th etc I'm sure they'll be lots of events for people to engage in

    If they do put it through the company then they will be taxed on it as it will be treated as drawings. Just saying .....

    The 25th Anniversary Committee would like to thank all the fans who came out to support the Legends United event and make it such a success. With final reconciliation still to be done, the event has already raised over £30,000 for Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), which is a huge achievement.

    The committee is now delighted to announce in conjunction with the club, the plans for the Back at The Valley game on Saturday, December 9th. This will be a really special day, with Charlton taking on Portsmouth in an echo of the first game back at The Valley in December 1992. The committee have invited a host of legends from the 1992-93 season and the last 25 years back to attend the game, and fans will have the opportunity to meet them in the legends lounge in Crossbars.

    To celebrate this anniversary, and to recognise the important work that CACT has been doing across South East London and Kent over the last 25 years, the club is donating 25% of home ticket revenue from the game along with 25% of matchday programme sales to the charity.

    In addition to the celebrations on December 9th, the committee is holding a gala dinner on Sunday, December 10th with Charlton legends attending as the guests of honour.

    Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of the 25th Anniversary Committee, said: “The Committee are delighted with the club’s generous support for the anniversary celebrations and for CACT. It will be a weekend to remember, and we hope to see as many fans as possible there.”

    Katrien Meire, Chief Executive of Charlton Athletic, said: “The Legends United match was such a fantastic event and the perfect way to begin our season of celebration. It was a pleasure to see so many of the legends who have made this club what it is and we’re looking forward to welcoming some of them back for the game against Portsmouth.

    “We hope December 9th at the game and the 10th at the celebration dinner will be very special days at The Valley for the fans and everyone connected with Charlton.”

    Please look out for more information about how to book the dinner soon, and get hold of your tickets for the game in the usual way from the club ticket office when they go on sale.

    i don’t think many of the legends have had a lot to do with us playing at our lowest level in living memory and putting us circa £50m in debt.

    will go to the pompey game but no dinner for me will have to settle for the chippy before/after the game.

    The fact that there is a room hire charge at The Valley for this event, tells you what's wrong with the club.

    Unbelievable if true. Unfortunately I believe it.
    The catering is outsourced so the company, Deleware North, makes its money by hiring out the rooms and selling meals and drink.

    Can't really blame the company for charging as that is its business. Whether they charge too much or whether the deal should have ever been made in the first place is another point.

    The man who worked for Deleware North at the time the deal was made with Ben Kensell and Katrien Meire? Tony Keohane.
    Don't think so. Keohane's LinkedIn page says he left Delaware North in November 2013 and joined CAFC in February 2014, which suggests - as I believe - he worked on the deal with his former employers on behalf of the club.

    Mind you it also says he has been chief operations officer since February 2014, which is interesting as Steve Bradshaw held the post for a while after that. In fact I don't think he was publicly given that title until much later.

    My mistake. I knew TK had worked for DN and had left them for CAFC.

    Don't forget you also may get the chance to meet Lord whatsisname from the Back to The Valley committee, assuming he knows where The Valley is.....

    They are clearly confident of filling tables, clearly that’s all they care about, maximising income for the Trust. The celebration of the return is secondary.

  • It just feels so wrong to have the Belgians involved in this, they have no claim to that part of our history at all.

    It kind of feels like the Israeli government in Tel Aviv organizing the celebration of "1000 Years of Palestine" - they can do it but they shouldn't be.

    Yes 10 to a table, not sure how many tables there were to start with, it's in Crossbars I think which if they don't open right up into the legends bar has a sit down capacity for 225 I think as 450 across both, so 45 tables max, maybe 25 if just in crossbars. You'd assume around 3 tables are give aways to ex players etc.

    I hope it's a sell out for no other reason than the players, but i'm still struggling at the cost of £95 a head being anything approaching any sort of value but might still go.
  • Strange announcement. A bit like saying there are only 17,000 seats left for the MK Dons game. I could understand advertising 'the last two' tables but not the last ten or the last 100 places. If they have had all those desperate to attend and for whom £95 isn't a concern, they might be struggling to raise the last £9,500.
