This. I'm reminded of a programme about Nottingham Forest's European exploits in late 1970 that was shown on Sky recently. Kenny Burns said that the 12 man squad (only 1 sub in those days) played virtually all the games during their marvellous 2 year run, which was 42 league games, FA & League cups (plus replays - no penalty shoot-outs) plus European ties (home & away knockout legs) He reckon around 70 games in 1978/79 season and on heavy pitches too. Our players play on average around 40 games and with 3 subs a few will play only 70/75 mins in any one game. The fact that so many of our injuries are muscle pulls/strains etc & not bad tackle injuries is rather puzzling.
it can’t be difficult to have half a billion quid at your disposal that can be used to employ a manager on a decent contract with a proven Championship league record. Look what you get when you have somebody like Neil Warnock as your manager in these leagues. It’s a vey simple equation, pay the money and get someone decent in. The old cliche of speculate to accumulate stands good in business.
I’m trying to convince myself that it was 5 years before Sir Alex Ferguson won a trophy, and maybe, just maybe we are being a bit too harsh and angry on Karl.
Give him another 4 years, and we might win the JPT trophy, or whatever it’s called these days. :-0
Does the team perform better/ worse when protests happen, and are we all protested out as a fan base?
I can’t believe fans are still putting their hands in their pockets to watch this drivel, it’s bleeding torturous.
Robinson can't play 4-4-2 now because if he does and we win it will make him look like a poor manager - er..... wait a minute.....
It probably won't work but if what you are doing is not working it is often a decent idea to try something else on the off chance at least. Try to play 2 up front and as an attacking formation as you can against another struggling side on Saturday.
It is obvious that the players are not interested in playing for KR. No change until the takeover, (close season?) They will then appoint their own manager, until then, as I have said before, expect nothing because you will not get much more than that
Just seen the highlights on youtube. Showed about 7 or 8 attempts from Blackpool & just one from us (after they had scored). diabolical.
Also noticed that we played in BLUE and lost. Last saturday we played in WHITE and lost. Perhaps when we are playing teams who don't wear RED then we could, just perhaps, wear our fecking Club Colours.
Whatever made me think sitting on a coach for eleven hours in total was a good idea? When the men in white coats come for Robinson, please send them onto me.
Utter crap, from start to finish, no-one looked interested, certainly no-one plays for Robinson anymore, he's lost the dressing room as well as his marbles, can't see where our next point is coming from. How many players do we get injured per match nowadays? More than in a season back in the old days, when playing was a lot harder. Can't find one good thing to say about it.
Apart from it was great to meet up with @Fanny Fanackapan, Mr. F and a good friend of ours to see the match with. The faithful few who sung their hearts out for that undeserving bunch should have their money refunded by Robinson and the "players"!

I'm tempted to agree with this- up to a point. The difference is the sheer pace of the game now compared with 'back in the day.' Now I loved watching games from that era; most teams - even those playing on the old 2nd Division- had some great footballers but, can you imagine today's coaches allowing Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Frank Worthington and the like to stroll around the pitch and not 'track back' and defend corners or put the opposition keeper under pressure ? Today, you not only have to have the skill but you have to be an athlete. Have you seen the 'vests' they wear now which track their performance levels? Read the post-match quotes from KR (and others) about how many kilometres so-and-so has covered per match. The fan's are the first to get on the backs of players if they think they are not running their legs off and 'giving their all for the shirt.' All well and good but this comes at a price I'm afraid, groin strains, calf injuries, hamstrings etc.
When I was a kid in the mid 90s, I used to get glory hunting man utd fans say "Charlton Pathetic"....but we were a decent side with players that gave a shit and gave their all, and got us to the prem.....
Now, the last 4 years have been "Charlton Pathetic"
Having little idea of how others present last night have reported their views or indeed, vented their spleens, this is purely my slant on what we witnessed. Suffice to say, what occurred drove the 3 of us to drink ( Mr F even partook of TWO cups of tea!) and our heads didn't hit the pillow until 2am !! TOTALLY out of character !
Our first reaction on hearing the starting eleven was WOW ! 2 up front ! Page back ! Bauer back ! Surely nothing can go wrong now.....
Oh we of a suffeit of faith ! Shall we never learn ?
Nothing of particular note stands out in my memory before the clash of heads which saw a long hold up in play and worrying attention to the Blackpool player as well as our own left back. Clearly, Page's injury didn't help our cause but the opposition was also affected by the loss of their player ....surely !
The emergence of Naby Sarr as replacement appeared to have a negative effect on the team with defenders seemingly unsure of where they were supposed to be on the pitch. What did stand out from the first 45 minutes was the number of corners we conceded with none of our own won. And the manner in which the Tangerines pressed our lads, forcing them to give away the ball time after time after time whilst we continued to stand off our opponents. We were visibly becoming frustrated whilst their confidence grew.....nothing new there then.
And so the match continued with further stoppages and injuries to our War Horse, Pearce which he battled through and more significantly Mr Five Foot Three. The travelling faithful was heard to whisper " Could that be his last match ?" as he threw his water bottle in the direction of the bench ( that's what it looked like anyway) Still the orange tide threatened to engulf our boys in blue although we eventually managed to win a corner so maybe there was hope after all for at least a point.
But, inevitably our luck ran out as most of us knew it would. Blackpool, whose shooting boots had seemingly been left at the cobblers managed to conjure a goal, hence the 3 points they clearly deserved were pocketed and our run of dismal defeats continued. TBH, we never looked like scoring and only conjured up 2 or 3 decent efforts all match. Once again, our lack of fire power was blatantly obvious but perhaps more concerning is our lack of fight. We looked almost like a team staring relegation in the face.
The players made their way hesitatingly towards us whilst their gaffer disappeared down the tunnel as fast as a rat up a drainpipe- something that may come back to haunt him if the mood of the 264 heroes was anything to go by. Some boos rang out and the clapping from the our stand was minimal to say the least. There was nothing to celebrate or to even give thanks for such was yet another dire performance.
The overall mood as we exited the building was one of utter desolation and negativity and almost unanimously, the feeling that our season had effectively ended. There had been a chant of "We want our money back" during the second half and the "Roland Out" favourite made a brief appearance too. I couldn't agree more with both with the former being particularly pertinent to those of us who had made the ill fated trip back in January. Later, we learned that one of our late night drinking pals ( a well known Killer kisser) had managed to relay his uppermost thought to our team and their management as the door to their departing coach closed with one pertinent word ....UNACCEPTABLE. It had to be said.
A glimpse of the local Gazette this morning as we boarded our bus back to Preston station emphasised the main difference between the teams last night. The 'Pool manager praised his players for their desire following their first home win since October.
Sadly, that word appears to have been deleted from the Charlton training manual.
I've only been to six away games in League One, and it's always be a great day out. I've only seen one defeat, at Peterborough, but even then I enjoyed it a lot, mainly the company and the pub, but even the football, in a scientific sort of a way. We were crap for much of the match though, as others may have mentioned. Still, the support was amazing under the circumstances. Real fans.
Very poor performance tonight when we were all expecting a positive reaction to the heavy defeat on Saturday. Can't recall their keeper having to make a save. All those bigging up Reeves please tell me what he offered tonight. The bloke is a lightweight and luxury which we don't need, bin him off please and as fir Zoro I wouldn't put your house on seeing him at the World Cup! Sad to say but that's me done for the season 11 away games W 6 D2 L3 there is no way I can watch us just go through the motions at Northampton and Shrewsbury. Roland and his circus, including Robinson OUT!
NO !!!
What will I do without your smile & the brush of your lips on my moustache for the remainder of the season ?

It's a good job Mr F hasn't got eyes in the back of his head...........he hasn't has he?

An away game is always a good day out. Even better coming home with three points.
Saturday has the makings of a real bad one and, if the team don’t put in a performance, the toxic atmosphere will be back with a bang. With my negative hat on, I predict a chorus or two of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt...”
To start I'm not defending KR as I think he's tactically inept and thinks a lot of himself considering he's not really achieved too much in the game.
BUT
I don't think managing us in this period would be a particularly easy thing to do. People that say injuries don't matter its only league 1 need to have a real think about that statement. Of course injuries matter. In any walk of football if a couple of your regulars are out it affects the team, which then leads onto the depth and quality of the squad. Did we buy well in the summer? Not really. When we let our best player go in January did we replace him? No. Are our once reliable players Solly, JJ still reliable? No. Our squad is very thin and it may be the same case at other teams who are performing but have they had better luck with injuries? Do they have a solid foundation at the club from the top who's willing the spend? Or are they a Shrewsbury, a club where the players/management are clearly at one and have taken their good early season form and kept it rolling.
In my eyes there's a hell of a lot wrong with our club at the moment. From the owner right down to the players it just isn't happening. Does ALL the blame fall on KR? No it doesn't. He should take his fair share of stick but so should the players. Whoever manages this team will not have success unless something changes in the boardroom and something changes in the changing room. A clear out is needed.

I think this post sums up how we'll feel when we look back at this era in a few years time.
I think where you can be critical of the players is that they have an excuse and seem to have taken it. That is probably why they are League One players. Winners would fight through the adversity and use it positively - our players might make the odd call of come on but they are soon staring dejectedly at their boots!

As I've said before Karl targeted an aggressive midfielder, the sort who would rally the troops, but was told 'no money'. And yes he said positive things about Duchatelet after he joined, but he didn't once he realised what a cn*t he is. And yes he should have realised sooner, but then shouldn't we all.

You mean back in the days of "Real Football"?
It's gonna be too close for comfort at this rate.

Time to up the pressure. Don’t fall for the leaked and overt appeasement propaganda about a takeover.
We need to turf him out the hard way.
Then I'll begin.....
