Worst game of the knockouts by a country mile. 2 of the least inspiring teams left in the competition. It has the feel of a mid table premier league game a bit - if the team names weren't in the corner i'd swear I was watching Southampton V Watford.... absolute snoozefest
Spain/Russia sent me to sleep to be honest, but this is just as bad...may pick up in the 2nd half.
Think this is the game ive least enjoyed in the whole World Cup, not even because it’s a particularly bad game. I just can’t wait for tonight to be over. Preferred when we came in to the completion with no expectation, everything has gone way too perfectly so far and that just doesn’t happen to England.
Does everyone appreciate that these players are not wearing soft soled running shoes but hard studded football boots?
Obviously Neymar was trodden on and the Mexican should have received a red or yellow card.
But even the 7 year old who was watching with me commented on Neymar's play acting.
Please tell me you did recognise that his rolling and writhing was acting ? Not to mention the fact that he was as right as rain straight after.
Try pressing down on something with the front of your foot with your ankle on the floor at a similar angle. It's an extremely weak muscle. There's no leverage. I'm sure it didn't hurt one bit.
Just tried this experiment. I can guarantee if anyone were good enough to let me try the experiment on their shin bone just above the ankle whilst I am wearing hard studded football boots the words coming out of their mouths would not be expressions of how surprisingly painless it was!
Did you have plenty of space around you to roll around like a spoilt little girl that didn’t get her own way?
How about a spoilt little boy who didn't get his own way?
For my own health I put the commentary on mute and listen to something else whilst watching the football whenever Lawrenson is on.
Basically after VAR took a minute or two to work out the foul was outside the box and the red gave a freekick and not a penalty he lambasted it, for taking a small amount of time to get the correct decision.

I don't know how he continues to get work from the BBC.
Interesting that the ref was prepared to send the player off and give a pen though, compared to the Denmark one the other night - the challenges were quite similar in that both defenders were the wrong side and deliberately stopped the striker from taking the shot.
I know one was a pull and one was a trip but neither was a genuine attempt to play the ball. Seems to be that as long as you dangle a foot out it is automatically deemed an attempt to play the ball in refs eyes and therefore not a red.
Comments
Neither are used to getting to the Quarter-Finals and wont want to throw this chance away
If and I say if we get past Columbia I'd fancy us to beat either of these comfortably.
This match is proving a turkey.
I’ve never seen a player fail to cut in so many times yet still attempt to do so
Please retire Mark Lawrenson before you embarrass yourself any more.
Simon Brotherton had to point out his error.
