He was a keeper and Maradona about 4'3", if he'd have done his job and jumped properly then Maradona wouldn't have got anywhere near it anyway.
Really ?
Did you watch it live?
Look at the picture, Shilts was going to punch the ball, fatty punched it about 3 feet in front of him! The ball was 2 feet above fattys head.
Very harsh on Shilton or naive....
Great ( unbelievable in spells) player that he was and 2nd goal proved that, Maradona blatenly cheated - end of. Nothing to do with Peter "doing his job" properly.
Must be a WUM comment imo or just stated this for no reason ?
They only won 7 out of 18 games in the whole of qualification so it's not like they were winning that much even when he was in the team! Also its not exactly like competitive games come around every week - 600 days...? well their last competitive match was about 250 days ago... and they didn't score a single goal in 5 of their last 8 competitive games so saying 600 days is a bit misleading - no-one was scoring for Argentina.
And yes I know he got a hat trick in the final game of qualification! It was papering over the cracks of Argentina's issues though.

He probably wasn’t expecting the little f***** to slam dunk it in the net ffs. If his hand wasn’t there then that ball is getting punched away by Shilts followed by clothes lining that cheating scumbag and possibly ruining his facial features in the process.
Shilton jumped like a girl and should have taken out the ball and player. Then in 90 his little pitter patter backward steps let in Germany’s goal followed by waiting to see which way the ball was going before diving in the penalty shoot out. And don’t even ask me about next game and being tackled in his own box when allowed to pick it up and conceding against Italy. He cost us two world cups and a 3rd place
Reading this article about England's infamous 1-1 draw against Poland that cost us a place in the 74 World Cup, and saw the end of Alf Ramsey (Shilton was poor for their goal too) I noticed this little bit about our equaliser
Eight minutes later, England were given a glimmer of hope.
Martin Peters burst down the right wing and went down inside the area under a challenge from Adam Musial. Peters later admitted to diving, in desperation for England's cause. It worked - Belgian referee Vital Loraux awarded a penalty.
66 legend Martin Peters diving? I thought that was a modern thing brought in by "cheating foreigners"

We had two or three chances to kick the tubby little coke head off the ball well before he got anywhere near the goal. It was an a accumulation of failures to go in on him hard that cost us.
RE. The England - Just watching Southgate (Gareth, not Billy) on the box and think he's calming influence could be the key to taking us quite far this time. The players seem on a similar level an all

I agree. Southgate has impressed me more and more since he first came in. He doesn't have the fireworks etc but you only have to look at the Argentina manager the other night and his antics on the sidelines to see that those kind of histrionics are distracting and unhelpful for the team on the pitch.
This England team seems devoid of huge egos from the top down which is a dramatic change from ten years ago the only one I'd say is Alli but he is still young and I think the team around him is rubbing off on him at least as far as England is concerned so far.
Positive stuff so far lets just hope they don't revert to type and blow it when in a strong position it would be so typically England to end up 0-0 against Panama tomorrow and be going into the Belgium game needing a result to qualify.
Southgate seems far more suited to managing this young England than Allardyce, who's hardly known for bringing through young players, indeed he's probably better suited to international management than club management.
Some managers really thrive on the day to day challenges of a club, Southgate to me seems well suited for the broader role of international management, and getting involved with the wider football world.
Yeah we want Belgium to win this and perhaps a de bruyne yellow card would be nice as well... Was 100% a pen for me, the player making the foul was outside the box but the player being fouled was inside it and that is the key thing that makes it a pen rather than free kick I think.
Think it was probably outside as well but it was so marginal that the angles weren't good enough to overturn it, thus right to stay with the on field decision IMO.

All this win does is confirm our progression if we can beat Panama ourselves
Although a goal back certainly makes it interesting today
