  • I think we could have easily replaced him, we just didn't.
Can you name a single player we could have signed for 1.5m?

    Tom Eaves
  • Mo Eise

    The guy at Bolton

From what I've read on here many suggested he's not at all similar to Grant though.

I'd say he was a Kevin Davies | Duncan Ferguson type Striker

So not a Grant replacement at all, the reality is pace is an expensive trait and Grant was never going to be easy to replace.

Mo Eisa was only ever a loan option; we'd be back to square one in the summer looking for a Karlan Grant replacement

Erhun Oztumer isnt even a Striker

    Not that expensive for Huddersfield.

Due to our bat**** crazy owner. In any normal situation, he would have cost a lot more, how much did Sunderland just pay for someone, imo, not as good as Grant.

  • Shouldn't have lost him in the way we did. It shouldn't derail our season completely but it's hardly helped.

You can't look for an exact replica. My contention is we could find somebody with different qualities. The issue we have had recently, is getting goals in the team. Karlan did well in that respect this season, but he is not the best of finishers. My contention is finding a better finisher would not have been too hard, although we didn't manage it!

My point was it was never going to happen, Roland wouldn’t have spent the amount of money required. Of course it wasn’t impossible.

Even with the budget it wouldn’t have been easy. You’ve got to make sure you don’t bring in another Ajose.

Our team was built around a certain system, Grants pace was a key to opening  up defences, so I don't believe Grant could have been replaced with any goal scorer.
  • I can see it now. He'll do really for Huddersfield, score a bundle in the championship next season, get called up for England U21s and end up getting sold for about 15m+
  • I think we could have easily replaced him, we just didn't.
Can you name a single player we could have signed for 1.5m?
Which highlights the fact that we sold him much too cheaply.

Unless he was demanding the move, we shouldn't have been selling him at all, we're not going up without him.
  • Glad he's doing well.

Simply dumb not to have an appropriate replacement.

It’s certainly going to be harder :-(

Quick question: If we got to play off final would you be able  come over for the match?

Teams are built around the players you have and if you lose some attributes you may bring in a player with different attributes rather than look for one with exactly the same ones. I don't think the team was built around Grant, although nobody can deny he has done well this season and formed a good partnership with Taylor. If people are saying Grant is a Premiership striker, well we will just have to disagree.

I’d lay money that he would
  • Genuinely think with Grant we would have got promotion this season

The way we were playing before he was sold and Taylor was suspended, without a doubt,no team in the playoffs wouldve fancied playing us. We wouldve pushed to top 2 all the way as well.
