    Great game - ebbed & flowed with each team in the boss seat at some stage - have been loving the RLC this season. The timing of the games lines up perfectly with my work over here in Canada - just at a loss on days when there is no cricket on like yesterday.

    Yes, as far as I know nobody from Essex is in the 100. We don't really have any limited over "stars" except maybe Harmer. Tendo is over 40 so you are probably right.

    It got reduced to 90 balls a side before play began. Then reduced to 85 balls a side when they went off for a quick shower. Then the game was abandoned after 71 balls when the rain started again.

    Shouldn’t scorecard say 71 balls rather than 14.1 overs?

     Delayed start to the mens game after the women's had been cancelled. Pitch far too dangerous according to the umpires Got there at 5 and didn't see a drop of rain. Sludgers on the pitch hardly sucking up any water. Did eventually get underway @ 8pm reduced to 65 balls

    good game last night .. London got their first win at the very end against Manchester at Old Trafford .. the BBC are forever bigging up Carlos Braithwaite who last night bowled okish but threw away his wicket when Manchester were on top and looked like winning .. he seems like a nice chap but he's still living off the four sixes he walloped off Ben Stokes in the world final way back when .. can we have the views of a few more 'stars' please Beeb.
    I have been converted to the Hundred despite my ridicule and apprehensions before it started. Why should 'overs' consist of 6 balls and not 5, 10 or any other number ?. The game is fast flowing, like all sports games it can be exciting or boring depending on the circumstances and most importantly the crowds are loving it. I think it's here to stay and we will soon see Hundred all competitions worldwide

    I was pretty anti The Hundred before it started, but must admit I am loving the games. 

    To me it feels effectively the same as T20, but what's not to love when you get big crowds, a mix of young homegrown talents and international stars and exciting games. 

    As a Kent fan I do worry about what happens next, but I can also see why something was needed to be done if the ECB want to have a global white ball competition to rival the likes of BBL and IPL. 

    The T20 Blast in 2019 had 133 games, the IPL 60 and the BBL 61. 133 is far too many matches to keep people interested and be able to broadcast each game on TV and so I can understand the commercial benefits of producing this franchised tournament. 

    One area I don't think has been a success though is targeting of family crowds. Yes there are plenty of youngsters attending the games, but especially for the men's games it still seems to be a majority of big groups out on the smash. No issues with that personally, but not what the ECB have tried to frame this as.

    ^^^^ have you seen the number of British Asian families at the games ? .. they quite probably identify with their home city, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, London etc more than with the more nebulous Lancashire, Yorkshire, Surrey  or Nottinghamshire.
    As for the IPL, I can see a tweek or two to improve the 20/20 format, innovative (and rich) entrepreneurs are never slow to improve and modify their 'product'
    Also, the Hundred might appeal to nations not usually associated with cricket, the USA, Canada, where there is already a large immigrant population playing cricket, UAE, Argentina, Holland, anywhere in fact which has a population with disposable income and a good TV/media set up

    Agree with nearly all of this. But I'd like to see the views of @Jessie and @Stu_of_Kunming with regards to China on the latter point.

    Agree with nearly all of this. But I'd like to see the views of @Jessie and @Stu_of_Kunming with regards to China on the latter point. 
    and Japan, a nation in love with baseball and Rugby Union as well as football= .. a passion for western sports as well as the traditional indigenous games/sports

    May not be a widespread opinion on this thread but I'm really enjoying it. I'm aware most of that may be because I don't have Sky, therefore access to live cricket. But I'm really enjoying the novelty of watching a live game after work.

    I don't mind the fireworks and the razzmatazz (I thought I would but I don't). It's great seeing families enjoying any sport together, especially something that's struggled with attracting that audience in comparison with others.

    My brother & wife took their two to the game last night and they all had a great night out. They were never likely to find the time, money or inclination to attend a test as a family before but both my nephews are now keen to go to one. Not on the basis of last night alone but one is even showing signs of being a lifelong cricket supporter over football. One less West Ham supporter in the world has got to be encouraged surely?

    I still think many people are over analysing the thing and should just enjoy it for what it is.

    I don't disagree at all, but it is what it is and it shows the impact of showing properly promoted, live cricket on terrestrial TV.

    I don't disagree at all, but it is what it is and it shows the impact of showing properly promoted, live cricket on terrestrial TV. 
    I just find it frustrating that many people still think cricket is just Geoff Boycott pushing the ball back to the bowler for 6 hours

    And that's a criticism of the ECB as much as anyone else.

    Not watched a ball of it and no intention to do so. I only opened the thread because I was intrigued that @Jessie had posted on a thread purporting to be about cricket.
