Jimmy limped off today. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/48840842 . Hardly surprising, just checked and he bowled 47 overs in June. That is no good for him. Not his fault, it's the ridiculous schedule and the weather. You can train as much as you want but playing is completely different. It's no wonder a 36 year old gets crocked with such a lack of cricket. 47 overs in a month? I used to do that in a weekend.
So much for specialist squads for ODIs and Test matches - 9 of the WC 15 could play in the Ashes too (Roy, Root, Bairstow, Buttler, Woakes, Ali, Stokes, Archer and Wood).
Australia, by contrast, have named a 25 man Ashes squad of which only Warner, Smith, Khawaja, Cummins, Starc and Lyon were in their original WC 15.
I mean at this point what do we have to lose by going for it?
We haven’t found the answer to the openers problem since Strauss and Cook. Good luck trying to name all the lads who have come and gone since Strauss’ last Test match.

Test squad for the Ireland game to be announced later today at Canterbury. No Anderson or Archer as both being given more time to get over injuries. Archer may even be kept out until Lords. Also Bairstow a doubt so Foakes may play. The Telegraph (and they are well informed) see it as this:
Likely team v Ireland: R Burns, J Roy, J Denly, J Root (capt), B Stokes, J Buttler, J Bairstow (or B Foakes), Moeen Ali, C Woakes, S Curran and S Broad.

Archer has had a niggle, but hasn't played any red ball cricket since last summer. A big call to throw him into the Ashes without any red ball games

Which bowler(s) conceded these 50 runs, @bolloxbolder ?

One of us is going to be correct - I've just traded out some of my potential profit on NZ @ 3.3
Archer and Roy to debut? I think so.

Even Boycott thinks England should pick Roy for the Ashes!

Burns
Roy
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Then perm any 5 from Jimmy, Broad, Woakes, Archer, Curren, Ali, Rashid and Leach.
My choice would be Ali, Woakes, Archer, Broad and Anderson. God knows who would take the new ball with Anderson though.
- Burns
- Roy
- Northeast/Denly
- Root
- Bairstow
- Stokes
- Buttler
- Ali
- Woakes
- Archer
- Anderson
Buttler would have the gloves if I had my way tooUntil someone in authority gets Root and Bairstow told we will have the former at 4 and the later keeping.
