I still would like him to be back at our club. Not as manager at present time as I'm very happy with Lee and Jacko, that said if Lee and Jacko leave in the summer due to being made redundant and a new owner comes in id have him back in charge of the team again without a doubt.

CHRIS Powell has issued the following letter to Southend United fans following his departure from Roots Hall.
Firstly, I’d like every Southend fan to know how disappointed I am with how it’s all ended.
It’s a club and area that I deeply care about,so I really wanted the team to achieve and aspire to bigger and better things.
After last season's heroics and going from 20th to 10th in 18 games we all felt good going into the new season.
However as the season progressed,it was clear that the issues(injuries) were going to impact on us enormously.
The players continued,alongside myself and staff to keep trying to push the club on.
The introduction of some very good academy players helped the team to continue in mid table but 2019 as a whole has been hugely disappointing for everyone.
I,as manager,will always take full responsibility for that,as it was my role.
After winning so handsomely at Bradford,the backs against the wall performance at Charlton and the stirring comeback v Portsmouth gave us all hope.
But for me,the Blackpool result had a far more reaching impact on us all.
We fully deserved the win but the way it ended it felt more like a defeat.
This sadly continued into the next few games,affecting performance and confidence and the team now finds itself 20th but not in the bottom four and definitely NOT DOWN.
This is where you supporters come in.
There are seven massive games to go and you all have a pivotal and vital role to play.
The players are a fantastic bunch who need you all now more than ever.
That famous togetherness that SUFC has always possessed has to now come to the fore.
I maintain that the team/club will be stronger for this season and I truly hope that will be the case.
Lastly,can I thank all the staff at the stadium and also at the training ground.
Also to Nick,Glenn and Vicky at BBC Essex who all treated me with dignity and also to all the players for their daily efforts and togetherness throughout my tenure.
More importantly,can I thank all you Southend fans.
We shared some great moments both last season and this but sadly that will not continue.

Sometimes you have to take stock and look at what is really important to you. Powell strikes me as a family man and a life in management is full of downs and a few ups and time away family.
The PFA are facing major challenges for players and ex players these are challenges that Powell would be ideal to address and lead on these issues and it will give him stability that maybe he would welcome.
Don’t think it’s because he’s black, more a case of bad results.

It is one of the strange anomalies with football that you have a few failures and nobody wants you. But with some people, it is how you learn and improve. Part of the problem is that doesn't apply to everybody, but there are probably loads of potentially great managers who never got that second or third or even fourth chance.
You also see different attributes. look at Southgate. He hardly pulled up many trees as a club manager but he seems to be a perfect international manager. Hodgson was a hopless international manager, but choke, cough, splutter, he seems to be decent at club level. We question Pardew's managerial skills but we were desperate for him to join us at one point in history. And he has had success and then failure. I think his record shows that he finds it hard when the wheels may come off, but when he has a positive direction of travel he is successful.
With Powell, I am reminded of his first half season managing us and despite a decent start, he couldn't get the club out of a freefall. Fortunately we had enough points to keep us up. Then he did a fantastic job with not that much money bringing the right sort of players into the club. Something not many managers could have done. By the sound of things, he has been incredibly unlucky with injuries at Southend and even this season with us - we have looked so good but we have had short spells where key players were missing and we have put out weakened teams that were beaten and have probably cost us.
So ultimately, my gut feeling is that Powell still has a lot to offer the game as a manager. The important thing is him using the time he has before his next opportunity to identify what he can do better. He is an intelligent guy and I think he is the sort who can make himself a better manager. Who knows, he may end up managing us again sometime, and in theory he ought to be a better manager than when he was last with us.
Of course I wouldn't swap him for Bowyer. I'm sure hardly any fans would. But Bowyer may be snapped up by somebody else given his talents. You never know what the future holds. Powell may not get another chance, but he may. I hope he does. I have a feeling there is a good manager in there.

In a Results business, Chris Powell has been sacked because of poor results. Nothing to do with colour of skin.
Darren Moore was sacked when West Bromwich were in 4th place after they had 4 indifferent Results and let Norwich and Leeds get a run on them. A strange and panicked decision by the board of WBA. Unlikely to be anything to do with skin colour
The % of Black players who get into coaching and get managers jobs compared to the amount of black players who have retired in last 30 years seems very low.
Anything to do with skin colour ? Only the CEO's and owners know the answers to that.
Not a fan of positive discrimination but only Powell and Houghton seem to be getting the managers jobs on a regular basis.
PFA and Managers association must speak to owners, chairmen and CEO's to find out the amount of Black applicants.
