Spot on Kevin, let's see where we are after Rochdale.

At Accrington earlier in the season I posted one of those ‘see what I mean’ opinions re Lyle Taylor which came home to roost big time,
I was sitting on the half way line and had a full on view of the ridiculous antics he was getting himself involved with and commented that I saw trouble ahead if he didn’t reign in his attitude towards both the officials and oppo players......it was almost 90 minutes of agro from start to finish, he simply HAD to reign in his OTT disruptive attitude on an ongoing basis.
Sure enough, it all came home to roost at The Valley where the Accrington players set about winding him up quite deliberately right from the outset and targeted him for a sending off from the get go, perfectly obvious what their game plan was and how they would set about it.
Unfortunately, he fell for it and at half time I posted what they were up to and that he was walking a tight rope towards a red card., I even suggested considering subbing him.....sure enough the inevitable happened and we tragicly lost him for an horrendous five games!
He has returned to the fold a much changed character. I’m not sure who his mentor/mentors at Sparrows Lane are, but whoever they are they need our eternal thanks for a job well done and not least of all to Lyle himself for a so very obvious change in his mindset.....long may it continue for ALL concerned.

I don’t think five 0-0 draws will be enough

They aren’t a bad team but Phillips was imperious (¡No pasarán!) so one goal was enough.

In Taylor and Aribo we had the two most skilful players on the pitch.

When Pratley’s having a good game, you know it’s going to be your night.

It must be said, Wycombe never created one clear chance.....great defending by our lads.
They had at least two: the turn and shot almost from the off and the Akinfenwa header in the second half. Which reminds me, contender for song of the season:
    Your tits are offside
    Your tits are offside
    Akinfenwa, your tits are offside

Just to add this morning that I don't agree Igor has lost his pace. In the first half he started half a yard behind two defenders chasing a long ball and swept past both of them. The keeper just foiled him but the ball ran loose and he couldn't quite put it away. It looked to me that he'd run out of steam after the long chase at that moment, but that will get improve with more match time. The Wycombe commentators several times commented on our fearsome counter-attacking speed. In the end I'd still rather have Karlan who adds shooting power and physical presence, but I've always believed that Igor was a Belgian U 21 for a reason, and I'd love to see him playing a big role in our final games.

Sunderlands run in is ridiculously tough - Coventry, Donny, Peterborough, Pompey, Fleetwood & Southend
I’d say ten points from that which gives us a slight chance but we have to beat Luton or the game’s up.

Support was fantastic with a medley of classics from the 60s to the 90s throughout the entire game, with ‘Your tits are offside’ being a highlight  :)
    Fine away win.

Im a bit nervous about our run in. We play a lot of teams still with a lot to play for

Eight nil-nil draws, one penalty shootout won and one lost and we’re still in division three.

Is a penalty not a goal conceded? Shoot out or not.

Depends if you’re Jose Mourinho or not!

Surely now is  the time to forget who owns this club .The players and management team are giving their all, would it be to much to ask, that those who have stayed away come back for these last three home games and fill the Valley.I regret that I am unable to travel away ,but it is obvious that the support the team has had on their travels has been vital and much appreciated.a packed Valley might just get us over the line.

No. It doesn’t count in any goal scoring stats and any game decided by a shootout is (or was, it may have changed) a draw for a team’s W/D/L record.

Turn up or not as you wish and respect others’ decision on that, but never forget who owns the club and never stop wanting him out.
  • Great atmosphere again last night. Thought Wycombe edged it until our goal, not that they really had any clear cut chances though.

Second half was nervy throughout, thought we would need a second as there were a lot of balls into our box, and we never looked in complete control at any point. In the end we dealt with everything, thought we defended excellently and Phillips was superb.

It’s not so much pace. I don’t think he looks as fluid as he did. He looks like a 32 year old striker to me. Nothing wrong with that, he played very well, but I guess the injuries must have had some sort of effect.
One goal though and i reckon more will come. Will be vital for the run in.

Absolutely right,I always respect other peoples decisions,of course I want him out as much as anybody, but I just feel that we,the supporters can get this team promoted. Those players who have appreciated the wonderful away support would love to come out at the last three home games and see a packed Valley. The owner is going nowhere this season,so I would like to put everyones differencies aside for the rest of this season and resume hostilities when it is over.

I think if we win our remaining games we are likely to finish above Barnsley and Portsmouth, but Sunderland would have to lose 2 and draw one of their last six, or draw 4. Despite their run in being tough it looks a pretty long shot to me given they have only lost 2 all season. Football is a funny game though and one defeat may panic them.
  • Dodged the red kites to join 1,500 Addicks in a packed visitors’ end. Great atmosphere and that ‘98 buzz is staring to build. Certainly look the form team at the moment and in Cullen we have another Irish rock (think Kinsella). He has been my man of the match every game he’s played. Tackling and passing all night and the assist for the goal was a delight.

The home team huffed and puffed but central two and Phillips stood tall. Great to see Igor getting fully fit and functioning. Aribo is class but the mazy runs came to nothing on the night.

My first game of the season, due to self imposed exile. The support was fantastic, with quite a range of new songs/chants that I'd heard on iFollow but participated in for the first time last night. It was great to feel part of the Addicks family again, and I'll be at Oxford on Good Friday next.

As for the game itself, a battling defensive display but it wasn't pretty and we sure rode our luck. But I'll take the three points, ta very much.

ere we go ere we go ere we go .. for a 'weak and understrength squad' this lot are doing superbly ..

the proper question of the day .. Sarr or Pearce against Luton ?

Good battling win, but we should hold on to the ball better against teams like Wycombe. We were lucky that the ball didn't drop for them from one of the many crosses and long balls into our penalty area. Thought Bowyer might have brought on fresh legs for the last twenty minutes, as Pratley and Lapslie were knackered.
Vetokele was a plus, and Aribo again showed some wonderful skills, but should pull the trigger more effectively when he jinks into the box.
Great to be in the crowd who made it feel like a home match. Must help the players enormously.

I understand what you are saying but not sure who would of been best to bring on. Pratley was needed for his height and did well competing in the air. On the bench was Reeves, Williams and Morgan none of them would of matched that.

You could argue Laplsie for Sarr earlier but that could of meant we sat back too early.
  • Had we gotten a second goal then I think bringing Morgan on would have been a good idea - He can certainly pass it yet unfortunately there are question marks over his ability off the ball at the moment... Because of that it would have been far too risky to involve him
  • Did anyone else notice how good our strikers were at shooting during the warm up?  Top bins galore!

At this stage in the season it's tough playing teams at the bottom because they turn into fighting machines, so I'm glad that Bowyer recognised it was better to get in there and mix it with them rather than try and play flowing football and get overwhelmed by a team fighting for their lives. I don't think Wycombe would have expected us to come out scrapping like that.

I'm really pleased to see so many positive comments about Igor. I'd finally given up hope of seeing him stay fit for more than a game and a half recently after years of holding out hope, so I'm chuffed that he seems to be finally getting some fitness back and looking more like his older self. I was such a big fan of his at the start of his time with us. In his early games in the post-Karlan time people have been quite critical of him but his performances always looked more like rust than loss of ability to me. Even so I wasn't sure he'd ever reach a good level in time for the run-in so it's good that he's stringing some performances together, and playing two games in a week. Maybe he'll hit his old goalscoring form just in time for the play-offs. I've probably jinxed him now and his shin will explode or something.

    Hello,
    Hello,
Igor is back, Igor is back.

His pace is back, and so is his commitment. Needs a bit of luck in front of goal to get his confidence back and he could be pivotal to our run in.

What a great night last night was !! Having partly restored my croaky voice from Plymouth I well and truly halted the recovery by singing my life away last night. Loved the new Lyle song and being a DM fan I'd like to suggest the words for this as it did seem to be a bit uncoordinated. Never done this before so please don't shoot me down but here goes :

    When I see you Lyle.
I go out of my head
I Just Cant Get Enough I Just Cant Get Enough
Every time you play for us you always give your all
I Just Cant Get Enough I Just Cant Get Enough
You lead from the front and you score our goals and I JUST CANT SEEM TO GET ENOUGH OF !!!

I was really thinking Willams for Lapslie, as he's good at hanging onto the ball, which would have relieved some of the pressure. He also works hard off the ball.
On the plus side he'll be fresh for Saturday (which I'm missing because I'm away on hols unfortunately).
