Brilliant atmosphere last night, and easy escape from High Wycombe (thankfully parked half a mile from the ground)

Bowyer had a plan. Match up physically, playing Dijksteel, Pratley and Lapslie for energy and height defensively. Dijksteel was shaky in possession but good defensively. Thought Pratley had a good game.

This meant we compromised with creativity going forward, but results are the only thing that matter at the moment.

Dillon, Bauer, Pearce and Purrington were all very good. Cullen best player on the park.

Vetokele was brilliant. Really deserved a goal. Shame his diving header didn't creep inside the post near the end.

Special mention to Joe Aribo for one of the best bits of skill I've ever seen. He seemed to be pushed out of play near the dug out, completely off balance, but somehow managed to nutmeg his opponent and leave him for dust. Fantastic.

Good battling win, but we should hold on to the ball better against teams like Wycombe. We were lucky that the ball didn't drop for them from one of the many crosses and long balls into our penalty area. Thought Bowyer might have brought on fresh legs for the last twenty minutes, as Pratley and Lapslie were knackered.
Vetokele was a plus, and Aribo again showed some wonderful skills, but should pull the trigger more effectively when he jinks into the box.
Great to be in the crowd who made it feel like a home match. Must help the players enormously.
I understand what you are saying but not sure who would of been best to bring on. Pratley was needed for his height and did well competing in the air. On the bench was Reeves, Williams and Morgan none of them would of matched that.

You could argue Laplsie for Sarr earlier but that could of meant we sat back too early.
I was really thinking Willams for Lapslie, as he's good at hanging onto the ball, which would have relieved some of the pressure. He also works hard off the ball.
On the plus side he'll be fresh for Saturday (which I'm missing because I'm away on hols unfortunately).
possibly an option although I thought Sarr coming on was a good move from Bowyer giving more height to the long balls they was trying and also allowed as to play wing backs as they was getting a lot of joy down our wings to put long balls in the box, when Sarr come on Djicksteel and Purlington pushed up and stopped that forcing them back a bit.

Did anyone else notice how good our strikers were at shooting during the warm up?  Top bins galore!
Yeah. I posted in the match thread that I was in danger. Nearly copped two “thunderbolts”

One from Josh Parker just missed a woman carrying two cups of tea. Never want to see people hurt but a good old fashioned hot drink incident never fails to make me smile.

I speak as one who forgot I was holding a piping hot cup of chicken soup, when Jim Melrose tucked away a fine Ralph Milne cross at The Holmesdale End v Watford. My joy at us scoring just about out-weighed my discomfort (burnt hand) and shame (soup stained rain-coat). The persistent rain and lack of roof, helped wash the coat and cool my hand! We won 4-3.

Good point, and when Sarr came on I saw the logic of the change.
Akimfenwa was a real handful, and is an expert at the sly push when a cross is heading in his direction. That was probably the only way he could win anything in the air, as he's about six inches shorter than Bauer and Pearce.

The subs were doing the crossbar challenge when the woman with the teas was nearly hit!

I noted before the game here how sharp Dillon looked in the warmup, and he took that imperious form into the match

It must be said, Wycombe never created one clear chance.....great defending by our lads.

Well I have watched the highlights and from what I saw they created at least four goal-bound chances that were either saved by Phillips or blocked.

Fair comment, play like that and surely they will pick up some wins

Interesting how he mentioned the 5 massive defenders we had at the end, Bowyer definitely picked a side to combat them

Wasn't that the game where Steve Gritt smashed in a thunderbolt?

This thunderbolt? CAFC 2-2 AVFC Oct 88 Unforgettable Gritty goal.

How eerie is it to see Selhurst again, and looking so empty? How the hell did we survive?

Some lousy defending there, 2 hopeful punts upfield led to our goals, while their goals were soft too!

We seem to be on one of those runs where no matter how we play we just keep on winning. Had to withstand a lot of pressure but our defense right now is first class. Feels like the opposition is always going to have to have a lot of attacks to ever win a game as we just seem to deal with them so well.

No doubt Igor's best game for us this season, him and Taylor really combined well to create the chances we did have. Purrington seems to be improving now as well and settling in better, a bit more calmer on the ball now. Really good as I felt they were the two weak links in our team but they've seemed as good as any other player the last 2 games.

Not sure we've ever had as good an atmosphere as we have this season in any season in recent years, even the title winning season. Been really enjoyable following Charlton away this season and even the games we have lost I've enjoyed (as much as possible) due to the good atmosphere. Just shows what a good job Bowyer is doing really.

For the first time all season top 2 is starting to look like a real possibility. If we can beat Luton on Saturday I think we're in with a great chance. Sunderland, Barnsley both struggling right now, just got to hope Portsmouth do soon too.

Sunderland are not struggling for a few games now, but hopefully they will in their next six!

He certainly scored but I thought his thunderbolt was at home to QPR (last minute equaliser in the game where Mick Bennett was carried off and never the same).

Gritty was partial to the odd thunderbolt, remember he scored one from about 25 yards away at Port Vale in the April of 92. We finished the season 7th on 71 points, Vale were rock bottom and relegated

It sure it applied Sunday,  but on Charlton Live they said that 4-3-3 seems to be working best as our formation. Was that the case the other day?
