Important win. There was the possibility that we could go on a bit of a losing run, but good character from us to bounce back from Friday with a good 4-0 win. We didn’t even play that well, they were just dreadful
Considering Scunny are in dire straights, I was really surprised by their lack of urgency. How did they beat us 5-3 up at their place? Pretty poor today. As for us, pretty slow first half, slow last 20mins but the period after half time was sublime. Lyle’s free kick was outstanding. And as for his control from that ball dropping out of the sky .. worth the admission fee on its own
Another clean sheet is just outstanding for our defence. Phillips has had to play the waiting game amongst all the loanee keepers, but my goodness is he making it his number one shirt now.
Broke my self imposed exile today, for two reasons mainly. Both to do with my health.
First, I took the opportunity to have the prostate screening done. Have had a few weeks of really focusing on my physical health as I approach my late 40s and seemed silly to miss out.
Second, mental health wise I have recently realised how much I have missed the chance to spend an afternoon watching my team with my eldest son. It was always something to look forward to and I have denied myself that feeling. Now I need to decide if that comes before my moral stance of not giving RD my money. I suspect it will do as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Performance wise we have played better and 4-0 is probably not a fair representation of the way the game was played. I thought at times it was too easy to cut though our midfield. In Lyle though we have a real talisman. I think he has the same impact as Kermorgant had and has become a major part of our footballing ethos.
Also the ref was very good. Recognised it is a contact sport and wasn’t easily fooled by any dramatics or gamesmanship.
- Best team performance of the season, was nice to see the players so relaxed and playing with freedom - Lyle Taylor's control today was pure filth!!... Unbelievable the way he brought the ball under control at times - Great to see Jake Forster-Caskey back
As for the game itself you have to argue that it was never really in doubt; Scunthorpe played like a team that are struggling for form and you have to question whether they'll even be in League One come next season - The fact they've got Plymouth and Bradford should make in an interesting end to their season... For Charlton was impressed with the work rate shown by Igor who fully deserved his goal whilst Ben Reeves drifted in and out of the game but put in some great set pieces today (something we've certainly missed of late)
The two players that stood out for me today were Ben Purrington and Albie Morgan... the former I've been very critical of late for getting out of position at times, now I wont deny that we missed him against Oxford but he still needed to improve and thats something he really did today - twice in the first half alone he bust a gut to get back, the first occasion being a beautifully timed header; As for Morgan he really improved off the ball today, on the ball we know what he can do and think he's really got bits of Jonjo Shelvey about him, especially when it comes to his passing ability - Next season will be a big one for him regardless of the League, due Roland being a prick I imagine our midfield relying on Morgan and Lapslie a lot!!
Only downside for me was the first substitution from Bowyer... The game didnt need Darren Pratley today, would have brought on Lapslie instead with his energy; felt that the change killed any momentum we had and actually allowed Scunthorpe to press us a bit more - Was only the fact that they were awful in front of goal today that stopped them from taking away Phillips' clean sheet!!
We played in second or or third gear for most of that game but when we stepped it up we always looked dangerous. Yes, Scunthorpe could and should have had a couple of goals but I feel we would have just upped our game to regain control.
Highlights. The movement and finish for Igor’s goal. Lyle’s screamer. Anfernee adding good attacking threat (and even a goal) to his much improved defensive game. And just great to see JFC get some minutes.
Negatives. Pratley. Just not in the same league, ability wise, as the rest of our team.
Still think we’ll finish 5th and end up against Sunderland in the PO semis. Will be a tough ask, but they won’t relish us either.

My guess is Bowyer wants to keep Pratley’s fitness levels up for the play offs.
Well Scunny were a bit like Bradford a few weeks back. You couldn't believe their lack of fight for a team in the relegation mire.
We played very well and won comfortably, without needing to find top gear. They stood off us and let us play and if you do that we usually win. Everyone had a good game.
It was great to see Morgan play well and JFC to get 20 mins and no apparent injuries.
We won at a stroll and on that showing & lack of fight I don't fancy Scunny's chance of survival.
One good thing I realised today which'll hopefully help us (and as shown from Bowyer's substitutions today) is the fact that we're the sole team that are guaranteed the Play-Offs and nothing else
Yes we're not out of the picture for second yet but technically we are; Barnsley | Portsmouth | Sunderland cant afford to start preparing because they've all got to put their efforts into getting that final automatic spot; same with Doncaster and Peterborough at the moment, neither can afford to think about being tactical with their line ups because neither are guaranteed sixth
Feels like something only small but feels like it could be crucial come next month
After all thats how it worked for Rotherham in the end; both Shrewsbury and Blackburn were concentrating on 2nd whilst Scunthorpe | Charlton | Plymouth we're aiming for 5th and 6th
I didn't expect that score .. revenge for the earlier thumping at Glanford Park and keeps the team in great order and full of confidence .. Scunthorpe now have a real struggle on their hands to stay in League One
Well as Taylor played, why does he stand out there on the wing while someone next to him puts a cross over? If he wants it back surely they can devise a secret signal. Get in the box Lyle!!!!

23 goals so far this season would suggest he knows what he is doing.

Probably right but I just don't think we need him. Still, hard to question Bowyer's judgment.

Bonus points four goals both srtlkers score Mogan had a good game and very special to see JFC back on the pitch COYR

A good day all round.
They moved the ball well and missed two open goals but it goals that win game and we scored four beauties.
Dijksteel's will have given a semi to those writing off Solly but Tony did well.
Aribo on his game transforms this side and he added a stonking header and a neat assist.
Igor saw less of the ball than v Luton but another striker's finish, sliding the ball past their keeper.
Don't know where that Taylor free kick came from but I'll take a few more in the play-offs.
After that it was a training game, bar the Novak miss.
Good to see JFC back.
Hope we can do the same to Gillingham.
Not a great game in truth but some very good performances from Aribo, Dijksteel and Taylor in particular. Also impressed with Albie Morgan.

Taylor had an excellent second half and his first touch is outstanding. Loved the free kick and nice to see us finally score from a corner.
We were very careless in defence and lucky not to be punished.
Morgan did pretty well - more composed than Lapslie.
You are really on a roll now with your second correct prediction in 11 years.
