I'm not Jason Pearce's agent or his Dad but bearing in mind Richard Wood is going to lead Rotherham back into the Champ and he is 2 years older than Pearcey, I'm really not sure why everyone even thinks hes too old to be a key player next year too ( obviously with lots of other central defensive partners )
It's not his age that tells us his time is up, it's the absence of pace and agility. If the opposition bang it high and long And JP has a mobile partner maybe he can do a job, anything else and he's not at the races. Sentiment has no place in squad building.
His wrestling in an around the penalty area is always a big risk. Giving away free kicks and penalties and getting sent off more likely as his age increases.
Interesting interview. Personally think if Pearce left he would be snapped up by another league 1 club. Has limitation but has not been awful in a back 5 this season.
Hope that if he doesn't get a contract we are told before the end of the season to give a big applause for his time at Charlton. Been a good servant for us.

He wasn’t good on Saturday , although he’s been very sound otherwise, bar a shocker at Bolton

He was terrible on Saturday, but everyone has bad performances. It’s shows how disappointing Famewo has been that there has been times I had preferred Pearce to start over him.
The problem is, we thought Famewo would be our LCB Pearce replacement, but he's been on a serious decline.
I think we need 2 left proper left sided CB's anyway to play 3 at the back. That excludes Pearce because he has to be the one in the centre. Wouldn't be the end of the world if one of them was either Famewo or Purrington, but we need a first teamer there.
at the moment we would be in an even worse position without him (due to injuries and lack of cover back there) next season we need at least 2 CBs who can actually play more than a handful of games in the first team without succumbing to injury.
He remains a very good player at League 1 level. It would be interesting to map out the results for the games he has started this season ( plus the away game at Sunderland where he replaced Lavelle on 24 mins) . I think he would be massively in credit.
If being a part-time coach means he doesn’t count towards the squad cap, I would say it’s an easy decision. If not, then it would be a much harder decision to make.
Funny video that for the club to release I thought. He came across as disappointed in his role at the start of the season and also with how his position is unknown now.
I assume in reality his future is more to do with whether a suitable role exists in the wider coaching set up that can be combined with being a squad / backup player.
I'd give him another year, he's shown this year he's definitely capable when asked to play. I highly doubt Inniss is staying on and it doesn't look like Famewo will either. That leaves Lavelle as the only CB contracted for next season. If we are going to play 3 at the back you would want 4 CBs at the club with Clare providing cover when really desperate. I think it's highly unlikely we bring in 3 brand new CBs, Pearce seems an obvious choice to extend for a year. Arguably has been our best CB this season, a low bar I know but he has played well for the most part despite nearly everyone on here writing him off last year. As part of the rotation and cover for next season it seems sensible to me.

If CBT is going to continue on on the left then it would be ideal to have a CB who is also a competent LB. When we started with this formation we were using Matthews like Azpilicueta or Kyle Walker for England, having him shift out to RB in possession so DJ or Leko had the freedom to go forward and stay forward with attacks. Matthews got injured and we started using Clare and Inniss there to less effect. It's no surprise we're marginally less terrible defensively down that side with a less attacking RWB to go with Clare. Famewo isn't a good partner for CBT because he doesn't have the brain for covering the outside space, he's very much a CB. Purrington can cover left but isn't really ideal for that spot as the CB that pushes out wider benefits more from a bit of pace than anything else, so we'd do well to get in a player who can get out and stop crosses quickly as well as winning the ball when it comes across. Not an easy find at this level.
We’ve really got to look at the CB position if Jackson is fixated on 3-5-2 next season. We’ve got away with how Clare has adapted to being one of the 3. Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure he was bought in as a central midfielder/right back.
If we’re going to play 3 at the back and Clare and presumably Lavelle are the first choice 2, and we don’t offer Inniss a new deal but do offer Pearce one, I would say we’re slightly exposed. I presume Elerewe will be more involved next season, which could be good based on his potential, but I think it would be a mistake to try and run with Clare, Lavelle, Pearce, Elerewe and one other.
Is Famewo staying,is Innis Staying and how fit will he be,is Deji going to be good enough,is Lavelle capable of playing 35-40 games,Only Clare is certain to be here and confident of playing ,regularly. We then come to Pearce, whenever he is called on he gives the lot, sometimes he struggles against the better players,(who dosnt against the likes of Stockton)but we need players who will not run for cover on a wet tuesday night in the North West,No doubt in my mind he should stay another year.

Think our team was meant to be:
MacGillivray Gunter - Inniss - Famewo - Purrington Dobson Clare - Morgan Jaiyesimi - Stockley - Washington
If Lavelle was fit right now, i'd probably want to see us try:

But if we want to go up, he's not the answer. He's ok for a back up, but we need way more quality and consistency
I like Pearce but if we are relying on him to play anything like a similar number of games next season it is not positive.

(Fraser, Clare and less so Morgan could be somewhat interchangeable)
