Chris_from_Sidcup said:I hope i'm proven wrong on this if he does sign, but i just think that we should be aiming higher than Docherty. We need to stay in the championship and for me that means bringing in players who are good enough to play in a championship side immediately. If he can't get in the Rangers side, then is he really good enough?
Remember Bowyer was pretty damning about Aribo going there, player should be aiming higher, it's not a great league, poor standard, only 4-5 tough games a season etc etc................and now we're going after a player who can't even get in their side.
Also how match fit is he? He hasn't played a first team game since August.1 -

Players can be undervalued by managers and teams.
Leicester laughed at us when we bought Kermogant.
Danny Mills was rotting in Norwich reserves.
Trust the recruitment until you can judge for yourself. This "I have no idea who this player is, but really is this who we're going for?" is needless pessimism.
Rather have a loan B&G think will do a job. And with experience in this division. All day long.0 -
Just a small addition o my previous post re Docherty, my mate who I mentioned also said he was the main play-maker and could pick a pass, the trouble was some of the midfielders he was playing with were just not good enough/up to speed and couldnt take advantage. I reckon putting him alongside Cullen and Field could be a masterstoke......but as others have said....I should be writing him off before he potentially joins!!! LOL2

"Bowyer is hoping to have Cullen, Lyle Taylor and Sam Field available for the derby against Fulham."Jesus wept.....are our players made of glass or what !!! Cullen got a ball on his toe & jarred his knee....wtf ?? Bert Trautman played the Cup final with a fucking broken arm.
With regard to any new signings...........doesn't really matter that much now. Have to be signed by midday tomorrow to be able on play on Wednesday so might as well forget any signings until Friday week as in case the club have forgotten WE DONT HAVE ANYMORE GAMES UNTIL AFTER THE WINDOW HAS SHUT.

And Conor Gallagher wasn’t just doing a job, he was a class act, which needs replacing with a class act.1 -

We are desperate. I reckon he is better than Dempsey at this time - get him in and stop farting about is what I say.1

Was chatting to a Jock in the pub last week, Rangers fan, doesn't understand why Gerrard is not playing him, reckons he would do a great job in the Championship - Docherty that is0

Oh well! No much transfer business done on a Monday I guess. Let’s see what tomorrow brings..0

It's all gone a bit quiet..1

That 5 year plan will become a 8/9 year plan if nothing happens.2

And then Leko, Steer, Amos, Mavididi (first time round) all to a slightly lesser extent
I would say our loans are normally quite good...

I can understand the wrangling with getting players over the line but why hasn’t Lee’s contract been sorted? Very odd21
-
Still think it’ll all be wrapped up reasonably well by the 31st. Expecting at least 4.
The contract for Bowyer is strange though.0 -
The club's and the players agents think we have the big shilling but we are still working with Roland budget (IMO)
Sick of it to be honest. Didn't expect mega big bucks signings ,but FFS just once can't we actually push the boat out instead of a pedlo?

Indeed, they are excellent ... I just believe Conor is a cut above all of them and will have the biggest career.
For that reason, he is a one-off ... in my opinion, a future England captain.3 -
A bit off topic, but if Taylor is 100% not going to sign a new contract, I can’t quite decide if it would be a good deal if we were to get Kasey Palmer and some money, rather than two players in exchange. That’s not to say that’s been offered, but if they really want Taylor and are prepared to offer us Palmer, they would be prepared to offer us money too.
Of course, we’d need to replace Taylor which would be the biggest challenge, but for the ‘long-term’ of the club, having Palmer would be beneficial.
Just in replacement of Taylor is not what we need right at this very moment. So on that basis, I don’t believe I can really say it would be a good deal. It would however, if it was Palmer and money which allowed us to get closer to the valuation of Toney.
Anyway, this is just pure thinking out loud so feel free to ignore me.0 -
In the 55 years I have been supporting this club I have learnt that nothing ever goes as smoothly as it should.
For all you youngsters on here welcome to a lifetime of being patient.21 -

I think the January transfer window is showing that having a bit of money is not enough to get deals over the line. You have to be prepared to pay more in January than you would in the summer. Better to have the player rather than any money I think.2

Rothko said:Lyle Taylor had never played higher then the middle of League 1 when he signed for us, if Doherty is deemed good enough by Gallen and Bowyer, then I'll take their judgement over someone who's looking at a wikipedia profile of a player
I'm not saying Docherty can't be a decent player in time, but we don't have time. We need a player who can walk into our side now and he hasn't played a first team game for 5 months.
I hope i'm proved wrong (if he signs of course).0 -
