If I was one of their fans I'd be furious. They are clearly a good side and can play good football but they didn't. They were dirty niggly and horrible from the start. And I dont get why. They most creative player came off the bench and cause us all sorts of problems (couldn't work out who because i couldn't see the numbers on their stupid kit with thin orange numbers on yellow and green! What cretin thought that was a good idea?!) If they tried to play football they would have beaten us. Instead they came for a battle and played into our hands. It's the perfect game for the likes of Pratley, Lockyer, Deji, Gallagher (and it was good to see the likes of Green, JFC dishing a bit out too). Maybe they got dragged into it more than they wanted by the experience of Pratley winding them up? I dunno.
First half thought we gave a good account of ourselves bar the defensive mistake for the goal. Davison put himself about well and caused them problems. I likes the kinda lop-sided back 5 with Doughty often being our furthest player up the pitch but still at wing back off the ball. Green and Gallagher supported Josh well. The goal playing out from the back is a risk and you always get one or two mistakes leading to a goal each season if you play like that. But could have been avoided, Matthew's dilly-dallied on the ball too long and then gave it to Lockyer with a hell of a lot to do. Lockyer held with it terribly and tried to pass back to Dillon but under pressure simply passes it to the on rushing attacker. We didnt deal with it well from there. Deji should have gone straight to the man as Sarr was recovering behind. But he allows him to take it into the box. I really thought he'd pulled off a miracle after he blocked the first shot but wasnt to be.
We stayed in the game well and great work all round for the goal. Delighted for Josh!
Second half started with a sucker punch. And we weren't in it for a while. Gradually got a grip back on the game but the real change was when Jonny and JFC came on. Jonny and Andre (who was excellent all game) running at them terrified their back line. Bartley (and to a lesser extent Ajayi) gave it to the covered end when it was completely unnecessary for the whole time Davison was down injured. Not long later Bartley loses his man and that's the equaliser. Wonderful!
We saw it out fairly comfortably in the end. Good to see some players back, JFC impressed me and will be useful in the coming weeks. Pratley immense throughout. Real leader in the jacko mould (think Lockyer is too) proper fighter and so fit for his age. Winds them up without ever actually crossing the line himself. Doesn't have too much pace but was still the one most willing to bust a gut and get back to make the tackle as they broke near the end. Growing man love for our Dazza.
Ohh yeah. Ref was an absolute nonce. No clue what he was playing at. They could easily have had 2 reds. Completely lost control in the second half.
A word on the people around me in block M of the covered end upper.
Bloke behind me moaning every time I stood up and even grabbed me by the shoulder and tried to pull me down at one point. Like ffs you're 3/4 of the way back in the covered end everyone is standing up (I wasnt even doing it that much - the instance where he grabbed me it was as Doughty put a ball into the box!) Not sorry for telling you to fuck off. If you wanna sit down all game and aren't interested in standing when we have a chance go sit in the west stand. And before anyone asks no he didnt have mobility issues. He was jumping rows of seats perfectly fine to beat the queue to get out at half time.
And the guy to my left was vocal - which I like but had zero clue about football. Was calling Davison shit from the first minute even though he was clearly putting himself about well. Didnt even stop calling him shit after he scored! Refused to stand or even clap when he was subbed! Shouting out at the defense even when they had the ball and were directly running at us. Shouted hoof it whenever we get the ball. What so you want us to hoof it at Davison so he can battle with 2 CBs twice his size and then you can moan at him too. The guy was a fool.
So glad I wasnt sat in my season ticket seat!
You could always give him a couple of hundred to up grade to the West if it is all getting too much for you, or of course, just fuck off to your own seat.
Can tell you're a boring old fart who doent like it when the clapping gets too loud as it disturbs his nap. Ffs.
I did offer to but he didn't want to.
Again it's most of the way back in the north upper ffs. I sat down way more than most people around me (who were standing all game) because of him. Certainly not a "random leaper" but if we are putting a ball in the box then 3 quarters of the ground are on their feet. He must have been only person in the covered end who wasnt at those moments.
The bit about the west was tongue in cheek but if you're seriously bothered about not standing up at all for the entire game you can sit towards the front of the stand or the east. It's well known the back of the covered end is where the people who want to stand go.
As for being in my own seat - I couldn't get my missus a seat next to mine today as thy had been sold so the ticket office kindly moved me across the aisle into the next block along and got her the seat next to me so we could sit together. Is that alright or do I need to ask your permission next time?
I admit to be an old git, but not boring. My reaction was down to having a random leaper in front of me at the QPR game and I missed a lot. Tried to swap but he refused. Moved elsewhere second half.
I happily sit near the front of covered end. My son has the seat next to me and buggers off to the back and stands - which is what he did yesterday. Plenty of room and the stairs are used as well. Possibility?
Always difficult when it is a sell out for everyone to get the experience they want and just maybe he would have purchased a seat closer to the front if he had a choice. It is in these situations that we should try and be as considerate as possible to fellow fans. You offered to swap then fair enough. I take it all back.
Just a highly frustrating situation. He also had a seat either side he could have moved to so he wasnt directly behind me (or even further away after I swapped with my missus) but he chose not to.
Feel like it's well known that is where people want to stand. If you wanna sit then go further forward.
To give context, I am a pensioner with a bad back and in lower North, plagued by standers in front of me who have threatened me when asked to 'siddown'.3 -
Tbh, how you can see anything in north lower without standing, I dont know.1
-
North lower has the old style rake doesn't it?1
-
If you are not a fan of standing then unfortunately
west and East is best place for you to be15 -

Not coming any day soon so perhaps could show areas that sitting will be active stewarded and have areas where this is not shown. This way the club is not seen actively supporting fans standing, but would help fans get the match experience they want.0 -
golfaddick said:cafcfan1990 said:golfaddick said:MuttleyCAFC said:The ball was going in before the keeper touched it and went in after he touched it.
An OG should be for players who either strike it directly (like Naby at Wembley) or if a shot is off target the ball hits them & goes in. Not if a ball strikes them on the way in.
I agree with your second statement and that is the rules. If a shot is on target and takes a deflection the attacker gets the goal. It's not clear which is the case here.0 -
MuttleyCAFC said:I suppose the difference is whether you want to give the goal to Lockyer or not. I think if another player is involved it sort of changes things. But if a keeper gets a touch to a goalbound shot that goes in, it isn't considered an own goal so I son't think there is too much of a leap to say Lockyer's goal was his. If you desire to.
It's an own goal if the ball was coming out, its Lockyers if it wasnt. Unfortunately I think the keeper saved it but we will never know for certain. Either way it hit the net which is the main thing.1 -

I mean, if you want an outcome and it is 40/60 one way, make it 60/40 the other. Rules are there to be challenged and broken. You have said you think the ball is coming out from the post but can't be sure. So that not sure bit could be used to give Lockyer the benefit.0

Has to go down as an og for me - if it hadn't hit the keeper it would have stayed out.0

Best way to decide it for me is get Johnstone and Lockyer together and ask who wants it?6

I was absolutely disgusted when people stood up at Wembley. Anyone would think standing up is a natural reaction to excitement.Legs OUT!6

I’ve been in the west lower for years, and for me it’s just a choice based on the view. I have pretty much accepted that you will never get chanting and singing etc, but I’m disappointed to read of people getting annoyed when others are standing up etc. Supporting your team means you can’t help but get involved emotionally, particularly in a game like y’day. I love losing the plot when we score and going for it. Seeing all these limbs videos these days, it’s great to watch and great to be a part of it.
100% have family areas, but I would love where I sit to have the same atmosphere as the north.4 -
StigThundercock said:Phillips: fine save early on, some wastefully hot-headed distribution but that's not the worst fault - CAFC's #1 by a long way
Lockyer: awful, weak, dopey, culpable for both goals, decent connection for our 2nd goal but that went barely half way to making up for just how hopeless he was throughout
Oshilaja: fractionally better than Lockyer but if he's really an option at CH, Jason Pearce must have a broken leg and pleurisy
Sarr: critical interventions in both boxes our best defender by miles (!!! christ !!!) few blemishes
Matthews: mostly decent against tricky quick cynical diving opposition
Pratley; one of the best Charlton performances I've seen in years, without him yesterday we'd have got drubbed, was everywhere possible his legs and lungs could get him, conducted affairs throughout, must have eyes in the back of his head, schooled the Baggies midfield in 'game management', had the measure of the fucktard referee right from the off, one critical ball winning tackle late on I still can't quite believe he got to, without fouling the cheating yellow prick. M-o-M by several miles
Gallagher: he's really very good
Dempsey: decent showing, against skilled powerful opposition, will have served him, and us, really well
Doughty: looks like he's been playing at this level for years, rather than weeks
Davison; tremendous shift against significantly bigger more experienced and cynical opposition, terrific instinct for the goal, stayed on the pitch giving it all for at least half an hour longer than his body was actually fit for, such was the pounding he'd taken, no protection at all from the laughable knob with the whistle
Green: quiet game, lack of sharpness probably understandable, aversion to the muck and bullets of the game in these situations less so.
Forster-Caskey: good to see him back, shored things up nicely
Williams: good to see him back, rusty as all hell but if he can stay out of the way of too many of the sorts of challenges he was greeted with he'll be invaluable
Hemed: n/a! as in no application. waster parasite prick didn't try a leg, spent more time sat on his fat arse complaining to the ref that he hadn't got a free kick for sitting down on his fat arse, if I never see him again in a Charlton shirt it will be too soon.
Referee: no words, absolutely none1 -
Covered End - most people stand
East and West stands - everyone sits
As it happens many people in my section of the East stand missed their second goal as someone was returning late from half time with a burger...0 -

Unfortunately atmosphere goes hand in hand with standing up and getting involved.. not sat shaking your fist at people showing emotion and getting excited (not a dig at you btw). I'm pretty certain the noisesiest grounds are where more people stand.1 - Sponsored links:

North Lower had to stand up loads Saturday.
So grateful..... I’m 6ft 1 and for the past 4 years have had to sit with my knees around my ears. Worst seats in football stadium history but I love it there. Been pretty much on my own with my Dad and my 2 boys as no one like North Lower Season Tickets (either that or didn’t like my family)
Bring back 20k + crowds, rather stand all game long 👍2 -

Another point towards safety
blood and thunder loved it
Pratley was our enforcer
never thought we had 2 goals in us (thankfully the oppo give us one ;-)
Feel a bit more confident after that display but where will that next win or a clean sheet come from

I think it is ok for people to stand and believe there should be safe standing areas in grounds. Where I have an issue with some people who stand is those that don't respect that the person sitting behind them may have a reason why they can't stand and having no sympathy with them or respect for that condition. Some seem to have an attitude - F off, I am a better supporter than you because I support the lads better than you. I can stand if I want to.
These tend to be the same sort of people who let one go in the middle of a crowd and think it is funny. At least be embaressed by it FFS!1 -
Remember when I went to a Buble concert at o2 couple of years ago - I know.... was with family and was a present....
Buble said I know it’s proper dodgy right up there in the 400’s seats and you get vertigo. Also for anyone who wants to party and have a good time, stand up and party !!
“If they moan or argue, turn around and tell them to F... Off !!”
Probably not the best advice in the West Lower but Buble did make me laugh !0 -
The tannoy announcement yesterday asking for someone to make themselves known to the nearest steward. I’m sure it started with, this is a customer announcement, at least it wasn’t in a Belgium accent.1

Addickhead86 said:I agree it's a bit of a grey area. The panel will say the keeper touches it onto the post, and it is coming out until it hits the goalkeeper again, therefore o.g. But I get the argument that the keeper wouldn't touch it in the first place if it weren't for Lockyer's header, and the only reason he is in the position to deflect it back in is because he is dealing with the original header. An o.g just feels wrong in these cases, even though it is technically correct.
Campbell's against Denmark in the World Cup was never his goal as it wasn't heading toward the net when the Dane touched it. Lockyer's yesterday isn't Lockyer's as the 'keeper had saved it and it wasn't heading toward the net when it hit the 'keeper and went in.1 -

To give context, I am a pensioner with a bad back and in lower North, plagued by standers in front of me who have threatened me when asked to 'siddown'.
Rightly or wrongly, fans behind the goal tend to stand. You would not have this problem in either the East or West stands.1 -

Bring back 20k + crowds, rather stand all game long 👍0
